Scunthorpe fans furious stating 'we want it off' on the forums and asking serious questions of attempts from SUFC to get it ahead.

Weird that there is nothing any clubs can ever do about this (as in the visiting side). The home club makes a half arsed effort to get a ground/pitch ready making sure it wont go ahead. The ref / health and safety official (from the club) do the inevitable and nothing is ever said. Odd really. That is not a go at United as all clubs have done it over the years. Remember Crawley last year having game after game postponed and many were called off really late for so many visiting teams.

As I say yes we have had it bad but so have other areas of the country. Be interesting to see how many other games are off tomorrow. Someone should be asking questions of the club/council if it does not go ahead....if anyone gave a damn!

;)

Every time a match is in question, it's suggested we don't want to play it.

If we were as tight as people make out, we certainly wouldn't want to call anything off, as it costs plenty in wastage and staffing costs.

I don't think the Lane will be an issue, it'll be the routes in and out/police and emergency services advice... I've still not managed to get my car all the way home and we can see the Lane from our house.

It's starting to ice over, just depends how much the temperature drops and how the weather is overnight/tomorrow morning.

Agree about the surronding areas but why are the club not doing everything to make sure the ground is safe and pitch playable.

Control the controllables.

If the game is called off, i assume the forum piss-up is still on?

Priorities people.....

It does seem United pick and choose when to really make an effort for games I think you will agree. Crawley other year was called off on a Tues night when I think Chesterfield and Barnsley played same night - we then a year later did everything we could to get the Fulham Sky game on (a la Villa a few years ago). All comes down to money. I think if United had wanted this game on they could have got it on - in my opinion. Oddest thing was that Brannigan fella says it was unforseen (everyone knew what was forecast and how much and it came down on cue and the amount that was expecte) -just an off thing thing to say really for me.

As I say cannot see any other game in doubt across the country (all will have same questions with routes in and out of grounds)? Sometimes people have a go at the club and unfairly but if we are the only club that fails tog et a game on tomorrow despite a lot of the country having poor weather then I think it is right questions are asked.

I will pick another side that has had equally poor weather....lets say Stoke and would have all same issues with routes in/out etc. Will there game go ahead? Racing certainty.

Do you know what they are or aren't doing?

Agree, again I don't. They may have enough employees there to clear the pitch without help. But seeing as in Mal Branigan's statement they didn't have enough staff to open the club shop and with conditions I would doubt it.

I am not one to berate the club or beat it with a stick with no reason Foxy, indeed I am one of them there clappers, just all the noises coming out of the lane today- with the photos and the subsequent statement -seem to be almost alluding to the inevitable calling off of the game.

Stoke nailed on getting postponed tomorrow now DB :D

Interesting that I have scrolled down the BBC website and ours is the only game in doubt in the whole country? Cant see any other pitch inspections anywhere else. Maybe there will be but it seems odd.
health and safety regulations have been tightened up dramatically in recent years( villa match was before our friends from
accross the pond passed on there very robust safety regulations) companies have to be very carefull not to fall foul of them today. But in any case with the team getting home very late(middle of the night) preparing for the game also playing along
period of vale game with ten men means preparation for game would be difficult. But of course being big sheff utd we shouldnt
worry about that after all we are only playing little old scunthorpe and they are in a very good run of form not to worry the game will be OFF.,I for one think that suits us fine we can prepare for a big cuptie and not put our players through gruelling league
game and risk losing more players to niggling injuries,ok we have to fit them in but to play two big league games within 48 hours and having played large part of the game with 10 men can you blame united if they dont try too hard to get the match on
the weather has come too our aid and i say thankyou.

Probably!

No my point is. We are tin pot. On and off the pitch. Don't think anyone can argue that. Load of bull about the access in and out. Every other club has to have access in and out to their grounds and have all same issues we have but will get games on. With poor form, suspensions, injuries etc, it is obvious they want it off. They cant say that obviously.

By 5 pm tomorrow, if we don't play, we could be around 10th place, if other scores go against us.

Quite a few years ago, I stood next to an employee of the pigs who was hosing water onto the terracing at Pigsville, on a bitterly cold day. The forthcoming fixture, not a crowd pleaser was called of for guess what? ----------Yep dangerous, icy steps.

Unfortunately DB, as is usual you have hit the nail firmly on the head.

I have never before seen us described as 'Tin Pot' in all the years that I have followed the Blades. Sad my friend but true.

Same thoughts sadly and I did not even got to Vale.
Quite funny how Sheffield and the surrounding areas was the focus on all national news when they were reporting on the bad weather.

If people can get to the pubs safely why can't they get to the game. Can't see the pub landlords going out of their way to clear the surrounding area so what's the difference?
Coz they're more likely to slip when pissed coming out of the pub on the way to the game;)

I agree. If the game goes ahead our defence would probably be:-

McGahey Kennedy McCevely Harris

Why would we want the game to go ahead!?

A postponement gives us 6 extra days to regroup, get players fit, maybe even sign someone?

And will give us a better chance of beating both Notts County and then Scunthorpe later in the season.

A tactical postponement sometimes requires bullshit and dodgy excuses. Why slag the club for doing what suits us best?

Blimey, me and the kids made it through from Belgium last night...and yes, we have just travelled over to see the Blades. Don't tell me the game is off?!?

For a lot of exiles back for the holidays, the Scunthorpe game is the only game they will see. (I was going to say the "highlight of the holiday" but thought better of it)

Yep I'm one of them, I'll be disappointment if I don't get the chance to see how bad we are with my own eyes.

1) undersoil heating has achieved nothing.
2) groundsman has made a token gesture of clearing the lines, 10 mins before inspection.

In my opinion not enough has been done to get the match on. This is only my opinion!

back in the day we could help out with clearing the snow in exchange for a match ticket. now in this health and safety crazy world we cant cos somebody might hurt themselves and the club could be held responsible. why dont they just say sign this disclaimer and get more bums on seats.just an idea
