Really annoyed, I can't get to evening games unless it's a Friday due to work so this is another game waisted off my season tickets, why didn't they ask for Voulnteers to clear the Kop and surrounding streets on Saturday? They have done this before, Hudderfsfield and Forest have done it.

i live in Nottingham and would have travelled up today.
The difference between here and Sheffield is that here the main roads and side roads are passable with care. We on,y had half the snow you had in Sheffield therefore easier to move around here.so Forest fans don't have half as much snow to clear as we would have to.

If you buy a ticket for the original fixture but can't make the rescheduled match, do the club have to reimburse you? I would assume they do, but would that mean they have to reprint all the tickets?

Doesn't help if you are a season ticket holder who can only get to weekend games.

If the pitch was playable there's no reason that the match could not have gone ahead. It wouldn't have been hard for the club to clear the the kop steps, pitch, and car park. They also had time to salt / grit the pavements immediately surrounding the ground. Driving conditions aren't the best, but they could have advised fans planning to travel by car to use public transport or one of the city cente car parks.

As far as I know, Meadowhall hasn't been closed due to concerns for the safety of shoppers. It attracts about the same amount of people, if not more, on a weekend.

Ten years ago this would have gone ahead. Now, it seems, it's pointles clearing the pitch as games will be cancelled anyway if there's ice or snow on the roads near the stadium.

Meadowhall would have many multiples of the amount of people going to the lane today.

It is absolutely ridiculous that the game hasn't gone ahead.

The club statement yesterday said that fans had been in contact volunteering to help clear the pitch however the club couldn't allow this to happen due to health and safety reasons. The roads around the ground were apparently dire yesterday as they had not been gritted what so ever meaning that staff couldn't get to the ground to safety brief anyone wishing to help out.

In my eyes you can only blame Sheffield City Council for this, they knew in advance about the snow however didn't grit. Yesterday as of lunchtime the streets around the stadium still hadn't been treated meaning staff and volunteers had no chance of getting to e ground in numbers in an attempt to get the game on. Last night temperatures plummeted to zero and any surface water from snow melting turned into black ice which is far more dangerous than snow as the majority of the time you can't see it.

The club have been caught out but I am waving the finger at nobody other than the council for failing to grit.

It's amazing what the council will do if you slip them a couple of quid.

Who'd have thought. 5 years ago, that we'd be happy to be avoiding playing the mighty Scunthorpe at home...

So why hasn't Meadowhall closed for the same reason? Why are the shops in town still open? I'm sure the roads are bad all over Sheffield, and there could even be patches ice in places. Why is a football game a greater risk?

PR basically. If someone dies because of the conditions on the way to Meadowhall to go shopping it'll be viewed as the councils fault. If someone died on because of the conditions on the way to the blades game then it'll be viewed as the blades fault for not calling the game off.

Considering the lack of grit being thrown up here is in S11 then I think the Council are perhaps to blame for this. It's certainly given the club an easier option to call the game off.

Not sure I have actually seen or heard a gritter since the snow arrived.

Leaving aside the conspiracy theories for a moment, I was discussing with my dad why we have the under soil heating if Ice outside the ground is the cause of the problem? May we not be as well having the pitch icy by not owning under soil heating - if the surrounding streets will be icy too this will be a reason for the game to be called off and in the process we can save money on paying for the under soil heating.

Or is it the snow on the roads and not the ice that is the issue?

Meadowhall, and the city centre shops for that matter, don't get a concentration of 20,000 people descending within an hour or so, or all leaving at the same time. In comparison a football ground is a relatively small area to Meadowhall or the city centre and those numbers in that confined space significantly increases the likelihood of accidents, I reckon.

Bollocks, I sound like a bloke called Keith wearing a high-viz jacket, carrying a clipboard.

Club should do everything possible to get the game on tomorrow... never a good idea to have a fixture backlog and also badly need to bounce back from (yet another) poor result yesterday...

Disagree here mate ...... delighted that its off as our bunch of pussies would have been mullad by a poor hardworking Scunny today and our lightweight midfield would have been swept aside.

This gives us chance to miss out on some transfer targets before we plat them

Meadowhall's main access route (M1) is pretty much pristine, and all they really have to deal with there, otherwise, is a couple of flat, open, easily cleared and salted carparks ? I'm guessing, but surely they will also have their own privately funded ploughs and stuff to clear their privately-owned carparks ? For what they'd lose in a day's takings because of snowed-up car parks, it'd be worth investing in a whole fleet.

Dunno what Heeley and Sharrow are like, but here in Woodseats all the side roads are either still inaccessible or iced to hell. A 20,000+ holiday crowd coming to the Lane today would have found, what, 80% of their usual parking places cut off ? There would have been gridlock and accidents in downtown Sheffield. And that's before anyone sues if they catch a cold within half a mile of the ground.

Think we ought to be a bit fairer to the ref and the club (and possibly Plod ?) on this one.

Wow Snowmegeddon must have really hit Sheffield, the only game in the football leagues to be cancelled in 36 hours you can clear alot of snow..Just how deep is it ,if ice is the problem cheap rock salt would have eaten through it in 25 minutes.
Here they use a mixture of sodium chloride and calcium chloride and spray it as a brine onto the roads. They also treat with a finely chopped gravel or sand mixture
.It sounds to me that the club did not want this to go ahead. It could come back and bite them in the ass if any of the away games are also cancelled January already looks tough without a backlog of fixtures.

3 minutes each way . Scunny 1-0 up at half time . Equalised half way through second half. Some of the players need a spot of glue.

Playing all the league 1 matches.

UTB.

Probably more entertaining than we are at the moment .......
Can you try Blades away at QPR and let us know how its going to play out ? :p

We travelled up from Hertfordshire yesterday and roads were fine until we reached Chesterfield. After that they were very dodgy.

After an icy night and no chance to thaw parking near the ground would have been a nightmare and pathways treacherous. It really was the only decision to postpone. Even if they had gone ahead, we wouldn't have risked it from Coal Aston.

That sounds quite reasonable until you remember that hundreds of other football games will go ahead across the country this winter under similar conditions
