Wilder is clearly a good 2nd division manager and that's where he's taking us. So we'll be well prepared for next season.

McCabe is ultimately responsible for our current demise - tonight was the worst blades' display I have witnessed in 55 years of supporting them. Until he goes I cannot see us reversing this situation. The majority say that isn't going to happen. I believe we have to think of a way - mass protests; crowd funding buy out?

I think we deserve and need to hear from McCabe and the board, what is their answer to our dire circumstances.
Worst in 55 years? Really?
It was awful but I can think of many many more over the years. It was a joy to watch compared to Bury away last season where ironically if it wasn't for Long it would have been a cricket score

It reminded me,and I think it was a nother Home Night Game, when Stoke came and severly rodgered us early in the Game

Pullis would have been in charge, dun over reight and proper

We are going down.
That is the sad truth.

We don't look like a good team thats just playing bad or going through bad form.

We look like a poor team playing poor.

Long - enough has been said.

Brayford - cant remember the last time he played well
Wilson - distribution is horrific, do him and O'Connell talk?
O'Connell - the best CB we have, but painfully slow
Hussey - slow, doesnt look to beat a man, checks inside and his passes are always to a centre back

Duffy - not quick enough for a winger, cant cross, needs to play centrally behind a striker perhaps
Basham - commitment is there, technical ability is not
Fleck - technical ability is there, fitness is not
Done - thought he was striker? Would never been seen out wide. Play him up top or not at all.

Sharp - struts round, tries to show he cars in little spurts but has been very poor
Clarke - only bright spot, effort, commitment, willingness.

Coutts - best player when he came on, but like CW said it was easy to play a bit when the opponents are 3 up and sitting back
Scougall - Whats does he actually offer?
Chapman - feel for the kid, can see what he wants to do, shame he has the above around him.

If we don't make drastic personnel changes in the next two weeks I think you're right, there's a real and serious threat we could go down.

If we lose at Millwall and then Oxford beat us at the Lane, and lets face it neither are beyond the realms of possibility, the Wimbledon game becomes huge for both United and Wilder.

We're gonna get slaughtered on Saturday.

And Wimbledon has got the usual United screw up against a new opponent (see Stevenage, Crawley, Wycombe) written all over it.

A lot rides on the Oxford game.

Normally I'd take comfort in reading Neil Harris's comments that Millwall have players that are not playing of the club and how they won't be playing Saturday (Gregory is rumoured to be one), but realistically we all know they're just going to use us as a springboard to bounce back from their drubbing last night.

I've never been as worried as I will be travelling down there on Saturday that we're going to get a pasting, including all the Premier League teams we've faced in the last few years.

Saturdays game has a bad result written all over it.

Incredibly disappointed like the rest of us last night.

The worst thing for me wasn’t the three goals that went in but the general lack of character and ideas that was missing for the following 75 minutes.
At no time did I feel that a goal was coming for us.

Southend weren’t exactly world beaters but were gifted their lead early on then could afford to sit back and let us have the ball as much as we wanted.

I vaguely remember Dave Bassett saying something along the lines of trying to change too much too soon when he first came in and short term it didn’t go well.

I hope Wilder & Knill have got it in them to accept it’s not working so far and come up with an alternative.

I have no idea exactly what that is & for all my hoping & guessing I can’t change what happens on the pitch.
Give it time, I’ve worried & panicked plenty over 40 odd years of watching The Blades and in the end it changed bugger all.

What gets me is how come brayford retains his place no matter how bad he plays.

I went and apart from seeing Clarke do a bit I cannot tell you anything about anyother player.

Both managers will be asking for a response from their players after last night's shocking results.

I've got a horrible feeling that I already know which set will respond.

individuals made terrible choices, and the team suffered from it
got to eradicate these asap
its highly unlikely to come back from 3 down with a settled side
the game was over by the 16th minute
got a great link to watch the game last night
no buffering to ease the horror , typical

This thread will be opened at full time for reaction to tonight's game...

Only just seen these. Should i stick my match report in here? Dont want to be picked up the forum police?

Bury away last year has become a benchmark for lots of us, I think. It was BadBuy Jr's birthday, too ! Jeez. I feel dirty just thinking about it. Fully agree that Bury was as bad as it's been, at least since Robbo, and it was certainly worse than last night. If that is possible.

Sadly, while I'm looking quite hard for positives from the last four games, I think there might be new benchmarks ahead of us in the next few months :(

How bad was that linesman yesterday? Missed an absolute blatant offside for the second goal, the third one looked dodgy to me as well.

Stick the report in.

Can't believe we've had a clearout of utter dross and just replaced it with more.

Long is utter rubbish and has had 1 good season to his name, really hope we get a keeper in for Saturday.
Brayford never been same since his injury might be better at centre half, Freeman needs to come in.
O connell and Wilson got bullied by ranger and can't hold a line, win a header or mark touch tight like Southend.
Can we not sign Barrett from them? Solid and reliable always plays great against us.
Hussey awful puts 1 good ball in out of 5.
Done only Clough got best out of him. Chapman in for him Saturday hopefully.
Fleck anonymous, although may improve.
Basham works hard about it.
Duffy never beats his man.
Sharp works hard, was poor last night, should have scored.
Clarke does everything he can.

Subs
Coutts did more than Fleck.
Scougall absolutely pointless, again a player Clough got best out of. Don't understand why when we need a goal we don't put Mcnulty on.
Chapman tried hard, hopefully get a start soon.

Overall we are a side devoid of any pace, when was the last time you saw someone beat a man on the wing? Final third decision making is poor.

Hope Wilder gets time. Think we need to play 5 in midfield and try and get a point at Millwall.
My team for Sat: New GK (please god), Freeman, Wilson, Wright, Hussey. Chapman, Fleck, Basham, Coutts, Duffy. Clarke.
Basham to sit Fleck and Coutts to get forward when possible.

Really hope this isn't a relegation season and just a bad start.

Three passes, three offside decisions. The match video doesn't help at all:

Why do Football League camera men (I've been told it's not a United employee who films the matches) zoom as much as this? Isn't it embarrassing to miss out key things like these again and again?

I'd argue all 3 were onside. Sat on kop on right hand side last night n all 3 look to be caused by the defence not moving up in a line together.

However it's the camera angles wish there was a straight camera at all grounds tbh to clear it up for definite.

It's certainly going to be a lot longer before we gel that's for sure. Be handy if we decided just how we are going play formation wise for starters. Bloody hell I hope your wrong on that last sentence. I reckon I could just about stomach another season IF we were making good progress. Anything else would be soul destroying

Goal two is without doubt offside. Forget the United defender. He has played the ball forward to another teammate BEHIND the goalkeeper which rules the defender out playing him onside. A truly dreadful error by the linesman.

Yanks-09.jpg Southend fans were really pleased with the result though..team bus struggled to make it through to the training ground this morning!

Yes, likely, but the cameraman doesn't show the teammate as the pass is played, which annoys me.

There can be no argument with the second goal it is very clearly offside.

That's brutal...... But though I don't agree with you entirely it's sadly pretty much spot on at the moment

I was thinking today. That i think our problems stem alot more than just what we see on the pitch. As i think its psychological Mentality issue from everyone at the club. Because after our many embarrassing results v minnows of league 1 under the last 4 managers. When was the last time we turned up to the lane expecting a victory as players fans if like me are going into every game with trepidation what's going to go wrong today

No surprise. We are going to make mistakes because of the lack of patience & frustration of the last 6 yrs. Which i understand the boos i think we are now the longest serving "big team" in 3rd tier for the last 20 years as leeds took 5yrs

I've just read that Southend were on a club record of eight conseqetive run of defeats before Tuesday.

Good at ending these records, aren't we?

Defining moment in the season for me this game, even though we lost the next game to Milwall, it's nice to look back and not be so worried, I've dug this up just to remind you all how this season could've gone !
whatever happens this season and in future seasons I'll never forget this embarrassing display and I'm pretty sure this is what kickstarted the run we went on.
