Does anyone remember the Blades playing a friendly against Latvia at Bramall Lane during the middle of the season? If I remember correctly we lost the game, but I can't remember why we ended up playing the Latvian national side. Also, did any Premier League players play for Latvia, I think Marian Pahars was playing for Latvia around that time.

I can remember the game as it was the same day I broke my hand and had 3 fillings done at the dentist.

think we lost 2-1 if I remember right or was it a 1 nil loss?
Sounds like a bad day! Is it true that going to Bramall Lane is more painful than having fillings done?

without a broken hand blades is worse but the pain of a broken hand and the fillings took the biscuit

My own fault on the hand for fighting at school, the git moved and I hit a wall, just like us trying to get out of L1

It was 0-1 Latvia in front of a crowd of 3,000 in March 2000.
I've got the programme from it as part of my infuriatingly near-complete collection from the millenium season.

Still haven't got a clue why we played them though.

Wasn't the manager of Latvia at the time a big mate of warnocks?

It is the only time I've ever seen the Blades play a national team, I'm not sure if there have been any others. So which programmes from that season elude you?

Charlton and the one from the infamous Port Vale match. I think I left in a huff and forgot it!

QUOTE="1973Blade, post: 927688, member: 13524"]Did you storm out after Kozluc's famous sliced cross into the Kop?![/QUOTE]
Loud boos when that happened but it was standard practice for Kozluk to do that so it was a little harsh I think .:-)

If I remember there was in reality only around 8k there. I was selling 50/50 draw tickets at the time so as punishment, I got free entry

Bloody sadists!

Shows how far we've fallen. If we lose 1-3 at home to Port Vale this season it'll just be a regular match day :(

I think we played China in pre-season 1983 (and won 2-1 if I remember correctly) in their national stadium.

It was actually a Beijing XI

In 1966-67 we played national teams from Chile, Mexico and Argentina in Latin American tours. We also played New Zealand at the Lane in 1992 and Zambia on a tour there in 1972.

Edit: Also Israel in 1972

We played the Mexico World Cup squad at Mexico in 1966. There is a photo of our team in a mutual FB friend of mine's on FB. Will look for it this evening. I think we played against Chile too

I had a filling done the same day as we played Cardiff in 1972 - big crowd that game ( around the 45k markI think - people in the cricket pavillion side as well ) and in the crush going in the ruddy filling came out (he was a shit dentist). Still the best match I ever went to though.:D
