First 10 yards are in the head
I think this has kinda been done before but not for a while and I think with a new manager coming in and talk of an overhaul or refresh required, it's perhaps quite relevant at the moment. Just thinking about our squad and as we know most of them are still under contract so in order for most of them to leave, we'd be looking to get some fees. I wondered what people thought about a. how much do you think is reasonable or realistic for particular players, and b. how much do you think the club might sell them for, based on their age, contract length, potential release clauses in some cases and their current 'stock' if you like.
Here are my initial thoughts :
Ramsdale £25-30m - bought for £18.5m and we'd have to be looking at more considering the latter half of the season and on fringe of England squad.
Baldock £5-8m - Celtic were apparently interested and I think his stock remains fairly high.
Stevens £1-2m - wrong side of 30 and in appalling form. However still an Ireland international.
Basham £500k - actually not worth selling as is invaluable to have around.
Egan £8-10m - probably would have said double that at the end of last season. Ireland regular these days and hope we wouldn't sell anyway.
O'Connell £15-20m - difficult as hasn't played, serious injury will put suitors off and now a championship player again. Hope he comes back better than ever but no guarantees and can't actually see other clubs taking the risk until he's back to his best.
Fleck £4-7m - not in good form, but still an international, albeit by skin of his teeth.
Berge £15-30m - big question about a release clause. Obvious potential to leave and would hope to at least recoup what we paid.
Norwood £1-2m - same as Stevens really, apart from retired from international duty. he could of course be key again in the championship
Brewster £15-20m - how much can Liverpool buy him back for? I'll drive him there myself! Seriously though, hopefully he can find some confidence, score goals and be a big player for us.
McBurnie £10-15m - don't think currently we'd get anywhere near what we paid. If Jokanovic can get a tune out of him and Brewster, there is potentially a big partnership there.
McGoldrick £500k - same as Basham really. His worth in terms of experience and ability far outweighs his saleable value.
Sharp £100k - not worth selling and again, should be handy to have around to help the younger players
Burke £4-6m - really difficult to predict. Currently if someone came in with a decent offer, I think we should bite their hand off.
Mousset £4-5m - at the moment don't see anyone taking him off our hands. If he could get back to that player from Oct-Dec 19, he'd tear the champ a new one, albeit in bursts of 60 minutes!
There's a few more obviously but hope that will get a discussion going.
