Blades player you'd completely forgotten about.

Didn't united about 5 seasons ago have a shirt (macron) I think that had every united player ever embroidered into it? I know chesterfield did this with their players and certain united did. Was it the black away shirt they did it on.

It was supposedly the 3rd kit and was given away free to season ticket holders. However for some reason the players wore a different black shirt as the 3rd kit that season so it was never actually worn.

Gabrielli was a centre half and played in that Sky game (Jan 2004)

A few years earlier, as part of Colombotti’s Italian revolution, we had Frederico Meacci. He was a midfielder. Remember seeing him in the reserves. Never played for the first team... That would have been 1999-ish...

That was the one I was on about. Seem to remember him being a 'development' type player but never signed up properly. There was an article about him in a programme I think.

I just remembered but then forgot again... My favourite song was always "If he hits the stand and it cost 70 grand is Asaba"

Andy Sayer . Only remembered him because I've just been watching some old footy on YouTube

Don't think I've seen Ashley Ward mentioned....

Also, what was the name of the Maltese dude we signed from Barnsley?

I saw mention of Mark Rankine on a thread recently and I thought..... "WTF? He never played for us!"

It probably doesn't help me remember him that I missed the 2003 play off final as my first kid was born that day.

As my avatar will prove, Rankine was a Blade!

Wasn't it summat daft like we put him on as an outfield player?

In the last few minutes of an away game versus Reading, one of our players (I forget who) was pushed in to the advertising boards and went off injured. This was in the days of 3 substitutes, so on came Carl but sadly didn't even manage a touch of the ball

So, do any of the senior blades remember Wally Gould?

Tony Field...circa 74-76
66 appearances 13 goals..
OMG was it really 40 years ago?
left United to play in the US for New York Cosmos. big buddy of Pele..

I was watching the game versus Man. Utd. with Deano's 1st ever Premier league goal on telly at the weekend. On seeing Mark Hughes' equaliser I realised I had absolutely no recollection of the defender who gave the ball away for Hughes to score.

Alan McLeary

Came from Millwall eventually went back there and had a few spells as co-manager and caretaker manager for them, one time after David Tuttle left.

There's another one I'd forgotten!
