I seem to remember in just about all our failed play-off finals we've had a tale of woe in the run-up with injuries to key players etc. As they've all blurred into one/been deleted from my memory can someone with a better recollection remember what they all were? Just curious like.

Was it Huthcison v Palace? Katchouro not fully fit maybe as well?

I remember the Windass/Warnock row before Wolves.

Who was it against Burnley? I remember the crap Beattie having to play and not being too happy about that.

Can't remember if anything against Hudders but I'm sure there was something!

I guess you could put the Ched thing in the Huddersfield one.

I think it was Henderson we were missing against Burnley.

Not as bad as playing ginger Quinny down the sunny side v Burnley. Talk about torture the lad....

I've erased most of that day from memory, not like it was difficult mind.

All I can remember now is the flash back of Elliott's shot leaving his foot and knowing it was goal-bound straight away. Depressing.

You mean you don't remember Jamie ward pretending to be a basketball player?

Yes seems strange looking back now thinking we really missed Hendo but he was ok for a bit I suppose!

Nothing to do with injuries but I read in Warnock's 'Made in Sheffield' book that he faced a selection dilemma ahead of the Wolves game. In both league games that season, he'd played one up front, it had worked and we'd beaten them. However because Kabba had such a great game against Forest in the semi, Warnock's decides to fit him in and we played 2 up front...........

That and Mike "you've all come to see me cos I'm a Prem ref" Dean not giving 2 blatant pens and his over-exaggerated play-on gestures. Were they both on Walker? I know one was. Best thing Hendrie did for United was call him a cunt after the final whistle and get sent off! :)

Yep that was same for me and my mate we called goal as it was in the air. Turned to each other as it hit the net and just said "That's that then shall we go back to the pub" cos you just knew United wouldn't score. We've had 2 of those Hopkin's was exactly the same

When you have a choice of Hendo or Craig Beattie then Henderson is always going to be the better option as long as he doesn't get sent off.

Its still like choosing which bollock you want removing though.

Nothing to do with injuries. We lost those 4 play-off finals because we were shit in them all.

It was scary how similar Wednesday's defeat to Hull was to one of our big match performances. Just didn't turn up and never ever looked like scoring.

.
Hutchison was carried off in the 1st half with a dislocated shoulder or collarbone. Katchouro was subbed in the 1st half too but didnt seem injured

Kevin MacDonald v Huddersfield

We successfully contained Jordan Rhodes all game, but we had nothing up front. Cresswell ran himself into the ground, I remember that, he was dying on his feet but Wilson just didn't seem to notice.

Two poor teams in all honesty, on the day.

Palace: I wonder why we chose to put Walker on after Hopkins winner, with only 2 mins ET ? was he not fully fit ? Unlucky with losing Hutchison after 20 mins.
Wolves: Never should have lost that - we just didn't turn up and we decided to play Rankine over McCall , suppose it was for his big game experience
Burnley: Didn't turn up again and could have lost by a few more.
Huddersfield: I used to laugh at the pigs for saying we were a one man team. Seems they were right, although the loss of MacDonald was key.

Here's to the next one then..............

There was someone else missing from the Huddersfield game and I don't think he was injured.

I remember Cotterill and Halford playing like they had put their boots on the wrong feet v Burnley. They were absymal with Walker and Naughton tremendous going forward and defending. They both saved 3 or 4 certain goals with tackles/goal line clearances. The Premiership scouts must have been drooling at the pace, athleticism and energy they showed and I am sure more than Spurs put sizeable bids in for them.

The Palace and Huddersfield games were non events with both teams cancelling each other out. The other finals, Burnley outplayed us and should have won 3 or 4-0. Wolves of course did!

We do always seem to go into these games without a full hand so to speak.

Halford was patently unfit for the Burnley game and should never had started it was like starting with ten men, or nine men if you consider Craig Beattie was one of the others.

That's not factually correct, we beat Wolves away 3-1 and drew 3-3 at home

Craig Beattie.

The name alone puts the heebeejeebees right up me.

Who signed him?

Blackwell.

We finished season with Henderson and Ward forming a good combo and had Sharp and Lupoli in reserve but then a bout of injuries saw Beattie the only fit striker I think - Magic Johnson Ward and Lupoli were on the bench but were not fully fit from what I recall? Henderson got injured in the first leg. Not sure what situation was with Sharp.

I was convinced Reading would beat Brum and then we just needed to win at Palace. Neither happened. We missed countless chances at Palace and also had 34 penalty appeals waved away.

Even though Halford might have been unfit Burnley still put a two man coverage on him as they knew he was all we had left as a goal threat.

Wasn't Sharp on loan at Donny by then?

Goal machine James Beatrice was missing from the Burnley game , having been sold in order to ruin a promotion season by chairman Kevin McIncapable.
Much as Deane & Fjortoft were sold on the same day , in order to ruin another promotion season in a previous era.
And Harry Maguire sold in 14/15 & Jamie Murphy sold in 15/16.
Despite game changing investment promises from someone who is either a cunt or a clown or both.

We scored 2 goals in the last 5 league games with Henderson up front. A penalty by Cotterill at home to Swansea and a goal from Howard at Reading.

We won both of those games 1-0, but lost at Burnely and drew at Palace and at home to Forest, missing promotion by 3 points.

Yet people still tell me we were better off without James Beattie.

The stats prove we were better after Beattie left.

We won more matches and gained more points without him.

I have stated repeatedly what I think actually happened, so I won't repeat it and it's all conjecture anyway.

I will simply ask you this: do you think that we would have picked up more points in the last 5 games - when we conceded only 1 goal - with Beattie up front?
