A terminal cancer patient who has been told he has just months to live has conquered Mount Everest.

Ian Toothill said he believes he is the first cancer patient to scale the world's highest mountain.

The Sheffield Wednesday fan planted a flag of rivals Sheffield United at the summit for charity.

About the the only Wednesday fan who probably deserves congratulations rather than abuse.

He came on the pitch towards the end of the season to drum up some publicity didn't He?
Fantastic story!! Well done.

What a wonderful piece of news........incredible achievement and Ian deserves all the luck that's out there. I wish him well in his fight against cancer, top, top man.

When it all boils down, all the nonsense between the Blades and the mob from S6 is just that when you learn about guys like this.

Fair play to him for sticking the flag up and more importantly, what a fantastic personal achievement! Just a pity it is in such sad circumstances.
When he came on the pitch and it was on local news I honestly thought no chance. Just shows what true determination can do, very inspiring.

What a top bloke! - How did he end up following that shower?

Seriously, many petty things put firmly into perspective by the man's achievements. People like him make you hope there IS an afterlife because people like him deserve it.

Ian - thanks for getting there and thanks for hoisting the flag, a great and very moving moment. You've achieved far more than many of us will ever do. God Bless You.

Ian appeared on BBC Breakfast this morning (about 7.45), and gave a great interview. Main credit goes to him - incredible achievement, interesting to listen to, and for once we can say on here with full sincerity 'Well done, Owl'. I trust he will raise a lot more money as a result.
A very minor point, compared with all he has achieved, is that he mentioned that he is a Wednesdayite, but immediately went on to praise the way United have supported him. It appears that the club has done all it could to back him. This all helps confirm what I have felt for some years - that the club is doing most things right, and just needed to get the first team sorted. We have much to be proud of. But this post must end where it started - hats off to Ian.

I saw that and that cunt Dan Walker had to mention that he's a pig. He also implied that the pic. had been Photoshopped.

I think he set it up for the perfect damning with faint praise. There was a Wednesdayite praising Utd and saying nothing about Wednesday. That said it all.
