Blades in Euro clashes

I'm not there and have not posted anything as I've not seen anything with my own eyes. Thing is with the media, they will only show you what THEY want you to see, there are pictures available online which show 3 England fans stood next to two Russian fans enjoying a few beers. Media won't show that.
So now you are allowed to comment about pics on line when you are not there.
How do you know it was not just some set up photo shoot?
Incidentally what I have heard is that there are 100,000 English fans out there (although I cannot verify that figure because I have not counted all of them personally ) and mosy are behaving like the people in your possibly photo shoot pictures.

The French routinely use tear gas as do much of the Continent. It's their country and how they police (there is at least one strike every week after all). Ditto to water cannons.

I think what some of the idiot England fans over there don;t realise is that if you act like an offensive knuckle-dragging tw*t they will just gas you first. I would suspect the locals have long enough memories to recall them trashing their city in 98. Probably weren't pleased about it.

Every club in the league has a little hardcore of nutters. Unfortunately they're the ones that largely follow England abroad. When you direspect the French streets and the police in times of high security. . . . Drunken louts outside bars with my country's flag wrapped round their shoulders, should feel the full force of the law, whether it be by a judge or a policeman's baton.

So, anyone going to Russia 18?

Euro 96 sorted out much of our hooligan problem for well over a decade. Hopefully, Russia will have to sort their act out. I'm pretty sure the Russian police are far more scary (and drunk) than our own police.

Before blaming fans maybe people should learn from the hillsborough disaster....

Back then, people used an existing hooligan culture, staged press reports and false police claims to blame the fans. Now we know that was incorrect.

It's a shame some elements of the British media and also football pundits aren't learning from the above before making statements, before all evidence has been reviewed.

It's crazy how short people's memories are.

Not that I'm defending police actions over there, but surely the French authorities have enough to be worrying about during this competition than a bunch of idiots of various nationalities playing billy big bollocks-given what has happened in France over the last few years.

Perhaps the scenes we have seen for far is down to the large spike in Nationalism across Europe, all playing into the hands of those who seek to attack the West.

It doesn't matter what nationality you are, throwing punches in the name of football is ridiculous and idiotic.

Hope all those caught up in it against their will are ok.

France as a country is on red alert due to the terrorist attacks. The bittersweet of the Mediterranean hot pot of life has made Marseille a city that can easily provoke violence , drawn by the rich blend of different races , religions , and cultures .

The mistake is having England and Russia in a city that is already in a state of alert to explode due to French politics.

The football authorities do not help themselves .

Having spent considerable time in different cities in France I couldn't agree more Marseille is a political powder keg and uefa have done themselves no favours having an 8 o'clock kick off in a city which is known for its intolerance, between two teams who have reputations for "misbehaving" abroad. Thats not to say I condone what has happened but it was almost to expected. I imagine there will be a few more isolated incidents as the tournament goes on but nothing like what we have seen in Marseille. As soon as the draw came out I said were not going to Marseille so we are travelling this week. People assume Marseille is much like Nice or Cannes being on the south coast but that really couldn't be further from the truth.

It sounds like the Police are doing naff all in the way of Policing correctly.
They watched the Russians gather, saw them mask up, saw them walk up the street and start attacking people just eating a meal. THEN the police use the gas and that affects the victims more than the perpetrators.
They didn't attack me watching the match at home, having a "chippy tea."

Someone attacked me I think, woke up in a daze on the sofa and an 18 month old slapping me in the face. Had nothing to do with the 8 cans and 1/2 bottle of champagne I had to myself! Wasn't celebrating but had nothing else to drown my sorrows with. I will be explaining to the wife later.

You've got to love Russian media.

We know your country is great, so less of these articles please. Your time would surely be better spent queueing for food.

UTB
You would die for their Cabbage Soup .......

I have a couple of friends out there, just a normal couple. She said she is packing in supporting England after this. She said the French police are tear gassing anyone in sight and are completely over the top.
When in Rome eh?

We're gonna need more body-bags..
wonder if they'll have group games in Siberia or the Crimea?

Russian football - and a lot of society - is riven by racism and homophobia. Still, as long as Blatter got a few more £millions for gifting Russia the next WC, what's a few dead supporters?

Some good points, but... It's exactly a month since those lovable East end cockerneys trashed Man. U's team bus so I can't understand the surprise that 'our lads' have acted in character again.

Hate to say it but if UEFA want to make a decisive stance then they should kick England and Russia out of the tournament Imediately I'm English but both sets of fans are a disgrace.

FIFA also should strip Russia of the next World Cup.
If they do that then they must include France because they were also involved.

Been to Russia v England . What we are seeing in France is kindergarten stuff .

Advice to anyone - keep away from Russia 18 . It's like the Wild West .

UTB
Me too. Vowed I'd never return to Russia for anything at all following that. They are arrogant animals.

The knuckle draggers are at home on banning orders.
Russian knuckle draggers are there attacking in the main ordinary fans.

Round our knuckle draggers up get em on a plane over there to protect our fans because the police aren't.

Seems that sweeping statements about Russian fans and the French authorities are OK, but England fans & their behaviour must be defended at all costs.

Yet again, a hardcore minority bring shame on the country (aided and abetted by a somewhat larger minority). "They were provoked" - yeah, right...

As ever, sympathy with the peaceful majority (many getting caught up in it) who want nothing to do with this extremist, nationalistic shit.

Hoolies check list
20:00 kick off (actually 21:00 local time)
Saturday night match
Hot weather
Rivals with a reputation
Easy flights and train journey

Local factors
City with large diversity of heritage, major port for North Africa and long history of involvement in crime
Country on severe warning due to Paris atrocities
Police on tenterhooks and in large numbers following terror warnings
First game of tournament

Great ideas for the few
Congregate in central square
Probably sing about minorities, piss in fountains, take tops off, disrespect all and everything to do with local culture, celebrate all that is 'great' about England, meet up with other like minded persons, posture to the rozzers, throw plastic chairs (lethal aren't they?) and create a really unwelcoming atmosphere for people (including those from your own country but who just aren't the same as you)
Transfer holiday behaviour normally reserved for Kavos or similar to football tournament

Great ideas for the many
Follow the Welsh or Irish (I am English) if you want to go to a tournament
Spend the money on watching European league football in September to experience Euro football culture
Go down The Byron where there are TVs everywhere (including the Gents) and Abbeydale Moonshine
Save the cash to look forward to this seasons fleshpots of Wimbledon, Oxford and Northampton
Support only one team, United, and ditch all affiliations with any other team including England

Are we surprised that time after time this happens when certain factors are combined. For some lads fighting in Europe is a right of passage, just nowadays the Police are ready for it and a lot of European hooligans are better at it. Life Is about choice and if that's your bag then go, just don't be surprised when it all goes off and you're in the middle of it. If you're an innocent then really you should think on about your holiday plans, it won't change...

Unfortunately it's just not safe to follow England abroad. The actions of the minority in the 80s and 90s have ensured any England fans are 'fair game' for the local nutters. Any trouble is automatically blamed on the English and the local police have no sympathy for the normal English fans caught up in the violence.

Russia won't be stripped of the tournament and any English fan who travels will be risking their life. The only protest governing bodies understand are ones that hit their pockets so foreign supporters should stay away and let the games be played in the backdrop of half empty stadiums.

Have you ever followed England abroad or simply developed your knowledge from the daily torygraph reports? I've been all over Europe and have even taken my wife and son on occasion to watch England over many years. Yes, i have seen some trouble but on most occasions there is none and the atmosphere in squares and bars is great. You can get caught up in it just as much in this country so maybe we should all stop watching the blades away? I'm not wanting to start an argument but the picture you paint suggests that it always happens which couldn't be further from the truth.

But fans of other countries will be going to games in packed stadia, creating party atmospheres and not bothering themselves about England, or Russia, or the French police.

The Irish, for example, will be far too busy enjoying themselves to worry about protesting. In fact they - like every other country involved in the Euros bar England - will have zero need for protest.

What about sweeping statements that England fans caused it which you seem to be making?

Here's a question then. When the Russians and / or French fans came into the square and started attacking England fans indiscriminately (first hand picture from my mate who got back this morning), should those who fault back not have done so and just taken the beatings or run away creating a dangerous crush as happened in the stadium after the final whistle? Don't get me wrong, I've no sympathy with anyone who starts something and pays the price but if ever me and mine are attacked, I'm going to react and I'd think most would do the same......and I'm nearly 60.
