What a difference a week makes:-

- we have made 2 quality signings
- none of our better players have left despite expectations that they would
- the much promised investment has finally arrived
- the transfer of the freehold has proved to be for valid and prudent reasons
- the investment has gone into the football club, not the property company or to repay McCabe loans
- we are making all the right noises about retaining our prospects and developing the squad further
- concerns about McCabe's business naivety have been well and truly put to bed

And yet a significant number of posters on the site today have still been negative. Some will say that I'm a happy clapper but just for once can't we actually enjoy the moment - our neighbours would be shouting from the rooftops if only half of this had happened to them!

...- none of our better players have left despite expectations that they would...

Erm, our best player has left, remember, the one that played in our last win. I know it feels like a while ago, but surely it isn't long enough to have forgotten already.

Look where Saudi money took Williams in F1.

Wow right noises, I'm bought into it all. Two quality signings neither who have proved anything. Oh and investment only means anything ifwe see it. As yet there is no evidence other than we have spent the McDonald money. I'm waiting and seeing before I sleep in the wet patch.

And maybe, just maybe we'll get an even better best player. Or maybe we've already signed a better player, or even two better players. But no. Think I'll get all negative about the club because a player who occasionally looked quite good in the third division has left us.

I'm all positive on this. I've done business with the Saudis a few times and know that they are shrewd businessmen that demand a good return on their investments. These will be interesting times. Il Hamdullilah.

Not in the last week he hasn't. But the point that I was making was that many people were expecting us to lose Long and Maguire before the window closed and yet only Higginbotham actually left, which most people welcomed. I didn't call for dancing in the streets, just that people refrain from being so bloody miserable all the time.

I'd rather be where we are with the investment than top of the table with no investment. It's very early days.

I think we'd be less 'bloody miserable' if we could score a goal or our forwards could!

To be honest I did put on Twitter last night that the club probably dropped a bollock by announcing the investment before the deadline. All it did was raise expectations. Ordinarily our fans wouldn't have been particularly displeased by signing Baxter and Cuvelier, but some were expecting Billy Sharp, Leon Clark and that other bloke from Coventry who's scored a few. I forget his name.

Somebody did try pointing out that the club had said the money hadn't arrived yet and wouldn't affect our dealings in this window. My retort was something along the lines of "since when have football fans digested all the information before forming expectations."

This Saudi guy is going to pump us so full of seed capital it's going to be coming out of our bums.

I do rather think that they were hoping not to. Until a certain employee of one of the companies who received the internal, private and confidential memo posted it on here.

Yet again. A difference of opinion and you're not a true blade?

True colours my arse.

Wasting your time mate.

Blades Show Their Capacity For Free Thought wouldn't get half as many responses.

I'm just waiting to see what happens and where it takes us.

Is the right answer.

I'm happy as the next man, however the seven points above means nothing at all right now.

1. We might have. They have to prove it on the pitch. No absolute proof as yet.
2. McDonald left. No-one has left since him which is good. Best player gone, rest still here. Jury out.
3. Something's arrived, no proof at all as to what it is.
4. Has it? Time will tell.
5. Has it? Time will tell.
6. No change. We've always made the right noises and done the complete opposite.
7. Really?

I can see why people are pleased, I've said above, I'm sort of with them. I can also see why some are extremely cynical. To say Sheffield United supporters are showing their "true colours", just tosh I'm afraid.

In every aspect of the club other than actually on the pitch I am the most optimistic I have been about United in a very long time however on the pitch I have to admit i'm not totally satisfied with where we are at and this isn't door to us being terrible week in, week out because thi isn't the case but the truth of the matter is that we've attempted this new formation and approach now for half a dozen games or so and it isn't effective and isn't winning us games!

We need to play a proven style of football that suits both the assets within the squad as well as the style of football of this league. We need to play 4-4-2 as boring as it might be we can still get the ball down on the deck but we then have the much needed options in the final third. In this league it doesn't have to be down on the deck always either and it is important we get someone up there to win the knock downs.

On the pitch at the minute we are holding our own just about however we could be a hell of a lot better therefore I am a bit negative about this and want changes.

Regarding off the pitch, the signing of two quality midfielders, the investment from our new Prince Abdullah and everything else I am really optimistic and think it will be a huge changing point for the better of SUFC.

Baxter's 17 goals for a near relegated side proves quite a lot IMO.

First off - If I was told in June that we would lose McDonald but sign Baxter and Cuvelier, I would have taken that in a shot.

Secondly - Brandy, Cuvelier & Baxter have all been brought in to play football and they are all suited to the 4-2-3-1 formation. The latter two have been brought in in the last week and now we need to change the formation? 7 games in? We still have a bare minimum of 43 games remaining! We are supposed to be laying down foundations; we have not been promised instant success (although it would be nice if we could get it).

We, as fans, have to buy in to what the club are trying to achieve. Off the field is starting to look brighter than it has for a while, and we may not look great on the pitch at the moment but I've said all summer that I could see us struggling at the start whilst we try and change the style of the football club for the better. We will improve and I think we're going to be the team that hits a good run and makes a real charge towards the end of the season.

To sum up: Have some bloody patience.

Im just happy to sit back & enjoy the ride.

The loan window will be an interesting one for sure!

All of these things remain to be seen.
Club chairman say lots of things in the media about football related matters that don't ultimately come true but public statements on financial matters are a different kettle of fish. The statements include the following - "the funds being invested in the team are substantial" and "the money being made available is for investment at first team level". As a plc director you cannot make such statements without a) them being scrutinised beforehand and b) incurring personal liability if they prove to be incorrect. McCabe may be many things but he's first & foremost a good businessman and won't have put his personal wealth at risk to appease our fans.

As I've posted elsewhere, there are good reasons to believe points 4 and 5 if nothing else but your response to point 1 makes me think that you prove the point that I was making....;)
