Keith Kettleborough's last game for us before moving to Newcastle. Northampton were in 4th division in 1961 and climbed to the top division in 1965 but were back in the 4th in 1969!

could well be Bernard at LB, I think Reece was at #7 pre WoodwardI thought Gil Reece might be 10 looked a bit chunky for Tony Wagstaffe he was nowhere bear as big as Barry.
Could be Bernard Shaw at left back

I think the full team is
1. Hodgkinson
2. Badger
3. Mallender
4. B. Wagstaff
5. J. Shaw
6. Matthewson
7. Reece
8. Kettleborough
9. Jones
10. T. Wagtsaff
11. Hartle
That could be the team Darren but that wasn't the usual starting line up, in Nov 65 the one's who had played every game were .....
Hodgy
Badger,
Mallender,
Munks,
J Shaw,
Kettleborough,
Jones ................... all on 16
Reece was one game less on 15
Docherty 12
Birchenhall 11
Mathewson 11
B Wagstaff 8
T Wagstaff 4
Hartle 1
Woodward 1
seems like Munks was first name on the teamsheet before Mathewson or B Wagstaff , T Wagstaff was only played when Birchenhall was not playing Reece had won the L wing spot from Hartle and Woodward would win the R wing spot from Docherty.
The BLUT stand was used for the first time in the home game against Sunderland in October 1966. Dont know when the club demolished the old BL end to built the stand but it must have been done very quickly. My dad said he regularly stood at the BL endThe interesting bits for me are:
The pre BL stand
Woody made his league debut in the 3-1 defeat at Anfield in Sept 1964 and was a regular for the rest of the season. He didnt play in any league matches for the first few months of the 1965-66 season (not sure if it was due to an injury) and John Docherty was wearing the number 7 shirt. Gil Reece rarely wore the number 7 shirt but he did in the Northampton gamecould well be Bernard at LB, I think Reece was at #7 pre Woodward
Munks broke his leg in the 6-2 defeat at Arsenal in Nov 65 so a quick return to the team was unlikelyThe only one I wasn't certain about was Matthewson. All the others are mentioned on the commentary. 6 could be Munks.
Looks like it was Mathewson at #4 then my reference was from the Utd v Everton programme 13th nov 1965 up to that point Munks was ever present in the first team. the Arsenal game was on the Saturday 6th Nov.Munks broke his leg in the 6-2 defeat at Arsenal in Nov 65 so a quick return to the team was unlikely
He left us in 1969 close season. We won 5-1 at Fratton Park in Aug, won 5-0 at home in October, won 5-1 again at Fratton Park (Munks scored for Pompey) in Sept 70, lost 2-0 at Fratton Park in FA Cup 3rd round in Jan 71 but a week later we beat them 2-0 at BDTBLMunks went to Portsmouth I can remember him coming back 70/71 season think we beat them 5-0 .
Shame about that injury he was going the right way before that.
