Blackwell

Having just listened to Blackie's interview after the match, i hope they play considerably better on Saturday cos i fear the poor fella's going to have a breakdown.
How many years now is it since we had a decent midfield? I've lost count.

Only just heard Blackwells post match rant.
One of the things that stick in my mind are the statements like "heads will roll" and "not good enough" (or words to that effect).
I am not going to name names but 2 players last night for me were total shite.
One plays up front and is a supposed striker?? (did one decent lay-off all the game before being subbed), the other is our midfield maestro that gets a game week in week out no matter how bad he plays. Both these players lose the ball with their first touch more than my Bullmastiff does when I volley the ball at him. There was people around me screaming " can't you see what we see Blackwell?! Now Williamson has a long term injury we're stuck. You'd think we'd have had a contingency plan.
Anyway on a positive note, Kyle was a diamond floating on a sea of shit last night. Chased lost causes got stuck in and has great pace. Did some good runs down the wings.

In fairness to Henderson he's not kicked a ball in pre-season and played his first 90 minutes in 4 months on Friday night. I thought he held the ball up pretty well but lacked the support from midfield.

As for the "other player" ... you're right, a total waste of space!

He'll persevere with Quinn, we all know that. The groans around bdtbl will be evident when the tream is announced on Sat. Get rid of the flicker!!!

Although the players can't be excused ( 1 or 2 apart) , Blackwell needs to look at himself aswell. At 2-1 down we stuck to to 4-4-2(ish- "jordan robertson") . Despite the performance being poor ( which wasn't going to change in the last 10 mins) surely it was time to change things.

Didn't seam the actions of a man who wanted to win as much as the pre-match suggested .

I am really not sure who he was referring to last night when he said about the couple of players who wernt good enough. It sounded like he might have meant Sharp, but he had a decent game last night in terms of actually having some decent efforts on goal. For me, Quinn and Howard were shocking closely followed by France, Bromby and Taylor.
Taylor is ok on the ball but he is incredibly slow and flat footed. Which players was he reffering to as not good enough since most of the team are either first teamers or new signings that we have just brought in!

Is there anywhere you can listen to this interview?

Its ok... I got it on bladesplayer.

Well I would have if i could sign in, grrrr.

confused me too, I can only think of France/Bromby/Taylor/Benno/Quinn/Howard/Robertson...only :)

This interview and the fact of his comments are being played on Radio 5. This will not do him and the club any favours.

Suppose the players start coming out and saying what Blackie tells them as team tactics. The next thing you have will be a full blown row in the media and the main losers will be the fans.

He should have restricted his words to "Not happy with the performance" "Port Vale deserved to win" and "We'll sort it in the dressing room".

Haivng two left-footed midfield players does not help. And whilst I am sure Ched Evans will probably be an improvement I am not sure that was a priority for £3,000,000. We have been crying out for a quality midfield player for years.

And then we need to play the ball through them and not hoof it past them.

To be fair to Blackwell, the side he put out was fairly strong compared to teams we have put out in the early stages of the cup in recent seasons.

On paper we should of won easily last night, you can not blame him if players didnt perform.

He has made it clear he is looking for players to strengthen what we have got. He didn't have many options last night when you look at the bench.

Au contraire - Blackwell can, and will, be blamed.

He's had the problem with Quinn for a long time, and he hasn't addressed it.

Granted, he had players missing yesterday, but we weren't getting the basics right - again. It's not the first time we've lost our heads in a match, and I could see what was going on - as could everyone sat round me. Why couldn't he? If something's not working, change it. We have the skills in the squad to run rings around teams like Port Vale, and if we're honest, many of the Championship teams. Why then do we always revert to type as soon as things go wrong and lose all formation, all tactical awareness, and all composure?

We won points through luck last season, even when we were playing badly. This doesn't vindicate poor tactics, whatever Blackwell might think. If the players need motivating, then he should bloody well motivate them - it's his job. Don't stand leaning against the dug out, or make exasperated signals to Sharp when he fails to score despite a valiant effort. What kind of people skills has he got?

The players are only a part of the problem. For him to come out and lay the blame squarely at their feet is not only unjust, it's unprofessional and I for one would not be wanting to give my all for him after that.

Sorry not reading all this post. May top miself if i do.
can someone brighten mi day and tell me how much i saved by not going with mi boys? oh and think how much happier youll all be by not having to rant after round 2 and how much youll save.

Re a hostile atmosphere,I have the same feeling about this season,as I did after the Colchester game 2 seasons ago.

It was then both me and our old fella said we weren't good enough to be challengers and could struggle as there seemed to be no motivation or leadership from key players or from the bench.

That was under Robson - but fast forward and the same things are starting to emerge again. If we are to arrest the slide now, then certain people need to be shipped out,and certain people need to take a long hard look at thereselves and think "do I really want it?" - and Blackie, this includes you...

Quinn and Howard look out of their depth - particular Howard, who on the strength of one cup run was signed, and has been poor ever since, and Quinn has looked lost since his brother left for Ipswich. France - why? If he aint good enough for Wednesday, then why have we taken a punt? And unfortunately,Bennett's best days are behind him - and at 37,should be put out to pasture.

And Kevin...well,Wembley and the 2 derbies proved that tactically,he is naive, does not have a plan B,and does not have the motivational wherewithal to get the best out of his squad. Personally,in my opinion, the team win games regardless of whether he's present or not.

So,we have to ask the question...do we bite the bullet now, wait until the shit hits the fan,or wish on a star and hope for the best ? Some people will say this is a total over-reaction and scaremongering, but do we want to be in the bottom 5 looking over our shoulders come November? Here's some suggestions to get the ball rolling on how things could be changed...your comments and own suggestions on how you'd improve the outlook are welcomed....

Keeper wise - if Paddy's not coming back, then make a clean break ,put him on gardening leave & get rid of Bennett.Bring in Bunn from Blackburn on a permanent deal and Kasper Schmiechel from Man. City - 2 young keepers with Premier League experience and pedigree, who are crying out for 1st team action, and would ensure a challenge for the No1 jersey - much in the same way Simon Tracey and Alan Kelly did in the 90's.

Midfielders - Didi Hammann,If we can get him fit (and his head right),Andy Van Der Meyde,Zheng Zyi. Sound unrealistic? Not really - they were all released so would cost absolutely jack.

Manager - Someone who'll call a spade a spade, give the underperformer a kick up the arse, media savvy, and motivator? Gordon Strachan for starters. Not done too bad in the past...

Over to you,now...feel free to strip the bones clean on this one...

I wouldn't want to sign Andy Van Der Meyde in a million years. He is a proper alco. The next big move he will make in his career is sprawling out in covered in urine soaked clothes onto a park bench.

Whilst appreciating your suggestions to put things right after 2 games (1 a creditable draw away at a team fancied strongly to go straight back up, another an unexpected loss to a lower divison team - not an uncommon happening in this competition).

i think they are a bit radical on err ..August 12!

I reckon a few months of happenings and not the usual knee jerk stuff before we give up on the present managerial regime.

Knee jerk is the word ,especially Benno. One bad game and he should be put out to pasture ? Every keeper drops a bollock every now and again and of course it stands out a mile. the problems were much deeper last night as most people have realised.
One other point ,why were the players not in for training or a look at the video ,or at least a bollocking today ?

Blackwell's comments....bizarre

His comments do seem confusing.

He sayss: "I gave some players opportunities after they have knocked on my door asking why they were not playing. Now I can turn round and say 'that's why'.

Well who could this be; Henderson, Kilgallon, Howard and Quinn have been playing and regulars from back end of last season. So he cannot mean them?

The others were new signngs, Taylor, France, Reid, Bromby and Little. Surely he is not saying they are not good enough already?

So that leaves Bennett and Sharp?

"Nobody bashed my door down tonight. I have been saying that I need another two or three and this performance proved it. Some of them showed that they are not up to it when the chips are down and I will clear some out."

Who is he going to clear out? Surely it wont be any of the new signings and he raves about Henderson and signed him for 2 million of course Kilgallon is probably our best player.

If he is on about Quinn and Howard it is odd as he has played them most weeks. Surely he has not just realised that they are not good enough as most of us have seen for a long time?

The central area of midfield truly is poor with Monty doing an ok job and then the rest is just awful. As much as he is a drain on the clubs resources Hendrie has to be included if we cannot offload as he can actually pass the ball. We definitely need to make a signing and fast in this area.

Other than Sharp, Bennett and Kilgallon all the rest of the team he brought in or signed so what is that saying about him?

Some things never change - we're always rubbish in the early stages of the League Cup and, on the occasions when we get knocked out, the manager always rants about how he'll move players on - nothing ever happens. It's just empty words from Blackwell, saying what he thinks people want to hear.

If we win on Saturday, we'll all be smiling again. If we don't, Blackwell has problems already.

Poor mans Warnock ,only Warnock very rarely slagged off his players in public.

At Last !
People are beginning to realise that Blackwell is not the real deal.
Fully endorse Deadbat's comments.
Whilst it's not the end of the world being dumped out of the Carling Cup at home to a Div 2 (fourth division) side it is rather worrying that a side with a self confessed 3rd highest wage bill in the championship has kicked off the season on such a low !

I can see the atmosphere being hostile on Saturday if we go a goal down. It might not be a very pleasant season.

I was thinking the same thing Linz, saturday at the Lane could be very hostile if we are down a goal or playing shite (which is likely) the players will get it.

Im abit dissapointed in the signings we made this summer, with the exception of Evans none of the signings excited me,

Anyway cant wait til saturday,Come on you red 'n' wizzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzards!

Blackwell is a first class tail.

Hate him more than Warnock, at least he was funny. Blackwell is just an annoying gobshite who talks rubbish and tries to be funny when he's not, for example the recent Radio Sheffield night.
