Kevin Blackwell said:
Cammy won't play for us again.... Injured, likely to be out for 6 weeks plus and out of contract at the end of the season.

We need to get some pace in up front somehow.

I agree with 99% of it, but there are circumstances beyond ones control.

Again, he mentions loan players and how frustrating and difficult it is. Whilst it might be in vogue to slag him for this, has anyone thought he may be trying to hammer it home to the people that can change that? ;)

We lack pace throughout the team. I'm sure I recall KB saying at the start of the season that we needed pace & athleticism in the team but the players he's brought in are unbelievably slow. We must be the least athletic team in the Championship.

Mostly fair comments from Blackwell in terms of the general situation. My problem is that I don't think he is the right person to do the re-building that he rightly identifies as being ahead.

There are two reasons for that in my mind:

1. The style of play I believe he will aim for will drive fans away.

2. I believe he is burnt out, exhausted and unable to see a positive way forward. That was the case after the play-off final, and it hasn't changed.

I think those two things go hand in hand. I don't think Blackwell actually has an ethos of playing the type of football we play, but I think he sees it as the only way to get results which will be close to acceptable to fans and to the chairman, on the resources he has. The problem is that we will get into a spiral - poor football due to lack of resources, resulting in falling crowds, resulting in fewer resources still, resulting in continued poor football in trying to match the previous season's league position.

What we need is a 3-5 year plan which says that we're going to build a squad designed to play football a certain way, and that we are going to develop our current youth squad to play the same way. This will mean that we're unlikely to be in a promotion race for at least the next couple of seasons, but we should see a more attractive brand of football in the long term.

Would people accept that? Would people buy season tickets for what the club openly states are 'transition' seasons?

I suspect the reality is that when Sheffield United are outside the top flight, fans have to be told every year that the aim is promotion and the minimum expectation is a play-off position.

If i was a board member i would'nt give him another penny to spend. Hes squanderd millions.
Get him out & give what little we have left to the next man i say.

That's one of the big problems with him for me. He sometimes says the right things but then his actions go against everything he's said.

To say he didn't go for Wellens (who I'm sure we couldn't afford anyway) because he didn't have the right physical attributes was just laughable given some of the sides we've put out this season.

Whoever is in charge next season will have an incredibly difficult job for a number of reasons BUT if they can add some pace and athleticism to what remains a strong (but small) core of players, I think we'll be OK.

I thought overall yesterday we played quite well. It was just the final 3rd. No really positive deliveries into the box either by through ball or a cross. Then, when we finally did put 2 quality balls in neither striker threw themselves at it! I thought the passing was better than usual yesterday but there was just no final "thrust."

I also thought Keith Edwards spoke very well after the game. Thought his comments were very good and it made me think a little

What did Edwards have to say? Not heard his comments.

He basically said what Blackwell has said all season but in a manner and tone where i could be arsed to listen.

Said that it's been a weird season and we've not had a consistent team. Blamed it on the defence mainly. said one game we had 4 loan players along the back. Next game had 2, game after that 3. Midfield, said we've had Williamson and Montgomery who (when playing together) look good. Said whoever is in charge next season has GOT TO get Montgomery to sign, he's been best player this season by a country mile.

he'd let Camara go, too unfit and probably on decent money. Send Harper back because unfortunately he's not the player we thought he'd be.

Get Sharp back and in the team.

He was also asked who to sign and he said we need better scouts. Said the bargain players are there i.e. Dorrans at West Brom, Adam at Blackpool. If we had scouts looking for these players then we could pick them up at a snip.

In a nutshell, defended Blackwell by saying that we've had a torrid time with injuries and loans etc. But then also said he needs to realise he needs Sharp and needs to get Montgomery to sign.

We also need to sort the injury situation out as this has got to be something down to training or diet or physios?

All fairly reasonable stuff. Just one thing, not sure Adam was a snip. He cost half a million (which might well be more than our total budget next term) and his wages were enough to put Barnsley off. Obviously he's ended up representing fantastic value but I guess the total signing package Blackpool paid will be well out of our reach next term.

Have we not just spent 500k on Yeates? He's rubbish! Apparantly Dorrans only cost WBA 100 - 200k!

Get the scouts up Scotland NOW!

100% agree with you about Keith and he is itching for a job at the lane, he really thinks he can help us and i believe him.

Before the season started Blackwell knew that
Paddy would likely to be out this season
Geary and Naysmith were long term injuries
Walker and Naughton were sold to Spurs and obviously cocked up the Walker loan
Let go Webber, Hendrie Sharp (on loan)
During the season he let go Kilgallon, Bromby, Cotterill, Reid(On loan) Howard
All Blackwell needs to say is that
'I'm sorry I didn't have the balls to stand up to the chairman' its not my fault I am weak and have no backbone'

just read blackwells interveiw"a experienced defender like like nyron nosworthy should have dealt with it in the build up !"surely "a experienced manager should know how to change tactics during the game!"same old same old!is it just me but when the blades get a positive result blackie does the spouting to the press and tv when we get beat its down to sam"piggy"ellis! oh my piggy out scouting who made the post match interview?
