Blackman

Liverpool payed the price of a goalie who isn't good enough. Shows the importance of the position. Get him signed!
For some reason, top managers don't seem bothered about going for the best keepers, but rely on outplaying the opposition in the rest of the pitch. The art of goalkeeping is under-appreciated, and the quality as a result is deteriorating. Jamal has a howler in him, but I still maintain that last season he didn't let a shocker in, and I think that when he does mess up trying to dribble the ball out, he won't go to pieces like Karius did last night. With Blackman in goal, Liverpool would probably have taken the game to extra-time; that is how important a reliable keeper is.

The glory days of snooker. What with him, Higgins, Kirk Stevens, Jimmy etc etc.

The closest we get to a 'character' these days is Ronnie having a go at the referee.

Not half. Unlike Higgins, for Kirk and Jimmy alcohol wasn't enough so they resorted to other, erm, substances.

Could they be classed as 'performance enhancing' ? Probably made them move around the table a bit quicker!

I think some are going a little over the top about Blackman.
Don't get me wrong i like him, but come on if Liverpool would have had him last night.

As i have said i like him and he is an upgrade on Moore, but i still have the nagging doubt about the amount of long range shots that ended up in the back of our net last season, now that could just be down to us not closing down quick enough. But ask yourself this did you ever come away from a United match last season thinking Blackman has earned us that point or three points, infact i can't remember the last time i thought a United Keeper had done that, probably Kelly or Tracey maybe Kenny.
Having said that he is young and i think he's better than Moore just not sure if its correct he's worth £2.5 million.
Anyway Tin hat on and i am off to get ready to go down town for some Beers this bank holiday, so won't see all the slagging off until later UTB.

Agree with you to a degree, but Forest and Brentford at home left me thankful he had the gloves on.

Spoken like a true keeper

I couldn't help but notice that Greenwich Blade the cat liked your post too ;)

I think it is worth a lot to come away from a game not thinking 'The goalie cost us the match today'; there were some goals to question, but I did not feel that Blackman cost us any matches. The starting-point for me with a keeper is reliability. I know if we sign him, that some of my posts will come back to haunt me...

You didn't go to QPR then ;)

To me, the higher up the leagues you get the more "dominant" a keeper you need...think Schmeichel(sp) at Man Ure. He was like an extra defender at times coming for high balls and fast throw outs. When we signed Jam last August i was well pleased we had a 6ft 6in guy to come for crosses. This to me is the SINGLE biggest difference between him and Moore. Moore does not command the box in the air the same at Jam. Plus later in the season his throw outs were quicker and more purposeful and turned defence into attack much quicker . If there is a deal at all possible it would be sound business to lock down that position for the next 2 or 3 years+. especially after seeing the importance of a goalie in the UCL last night

also its obvious from Jam social media and his actions that he loves playing for United -again we want players to come to play for us for the right reasons not to just pick up a wage

Better than Multi-Billionaire Chelsea, I doubt it.

For an elite boxer? You’re wrong to doubt it. Sheffield is the place to be. All the right people spend time here. Just to give you a clue, AJ would train at Chelsea if it were better there.

The elite Chinese snooker players are Sheffield based as well.

Hope he signs can only see him getting better knowing he is at a club that wants him as first choice and that he isn’t playing to secure his future

I'm talking about Blackman, I believe he is here because he will likely sign, but saying he is here for the facilities is daft. When he is employed by Chelsea and they have great facilities too

Maybe he just likes it in Sheffield, maybe he has a girlfriend here, maybe he was renting in London and gave it up when he went to Sheffield. Maybe his situation will be on hold as Chelsea are maybe changing manager.

AJ could punch the ball along way but Ding Junhui making a crucial dive?

No AJ would train at Chelsea if his coach was there but he's at the EIS so AJ comes to Sheffield.
