Don't disagree at all, but there is always doubt, 6 years and longer of the shit that we have been served up and you can see why most would be pessimistic, until it is mathematically sorted and we go up or enter another year of play offs, I will stay slightly pessimistic, loving the ride at the moment but always worried the rug is going to be pulled from under us.
I now its a bit early to look at this but I was bored yesterday. Looking at the final matches for us, Bolton, Scunny & Fleetwood. one thing stood out Bolton have only 6 at home & 9 away. Ours & Fleetwood looks the best.
Errrm I think our upcoming run includes Bolton, Rochdale, Oxford, Millwall and Charlton.
That doesnt look that easy to me.
6 out of next 7 away for United; means for me Saturday if we dont win...will put pressure on us as Scunny/Bolton have some quite winnable home games too in this period; albeit playing Fleetwood away both of them.
Mind you if we are serious about going up we need to get results at places like Rochdale, Oxford, Swindon, Oldham, Northampton and Port Vale. Most are mid table with a few near the bottom in Oldham and Port Vale. Expect we will have big followings at most games too aside from the two Tuesday night long trips.
she'd want to go tooIt's a win-win. You have saturday free now to treat her; "Darling you are so special that I want us to spend time together shopping / watching a chick flick / putting up those shelves you've been asking for, for the last 4 years". You never know, chuck in a bunch of flowers and you might even get your leg over.
Then come Monday, you explain how sad it is that this country has become so heathen. As a reminder of the meaning of life, you plan to spend the afternoon in St Mary's church thanking the Lord for the gift of his son; alone though!.
Simples.
What could possibly go wrong?

I've always had the attitude that a draw away from home is a good point. Given what I've seen under Wilder, including the way the oppo have often set up when we're at home, I'm less concerned this season.. I'm not sure whether it makes much difference for our remaining fixtures whether we're home or away... Course I'd love us to be invincible at home..but I'm way more positive about away league games than I have been for, what seems, an eternity...UTB6 out of next 7 away for United; means for me Saturday if we dont win...will put pressure on us as Scunny/Bolton have some quite winnable home games too in this period; albeit playing Fleetwood away both of them.

This. In the midst of the pandemonium after Billy's goal at P'Boro I turned to my dad and said "we're going up as champions." Halfway back up the A1 reality had reasserted itself and I was back to "we might go up, we probably SHOULD go up, but until it's mathematically certain let's not count chickens etc etc."
I believe we are the best team in this division...that's why we're 5 points clear at the top. However, if the last 22 and a half years watching United have taught me anything, it's that we can and do fuck up on a terrifyingly regular basis.
(That said, if we beat Bolton on saturday and Scunny don't win, no doubt some foolish words will escape my mouth along the lines of "cracked it," "one foot in the championship," "who do we want first game next season?" etc)
Football is bloody silly sometimes.
The is United in a nutshell, we will at time snatch defeat from the hands of victory.
.
so results are the same every year for ever
dont think so
surprisingly we have won promotion before
yes theres been shit years , but all teams have them
we have no predestined future
CW and the boys will make our future
preston fans had 3 times as long to wait , still got up
Fkin ell. How's that worked out like that?
We've played 17 at home and 16 away, so somat done seem reyt
lovely we play better away as teams dont play 2 banks of 5 in front of usIt's actually 5 out of the next 7 are away for United, or 6 out of the next 8. It's worked out that way because of the Millwall and Coventry games being rearranged. It might not be such a bad thing though, United are top of the away league table.
(and we also have to play as many home games and away games as every one else so ultimately it means nothing)
Edit: and depending on when the Millwall and Coventry games get rearranged after the next 8 games we're left with 4 at home and 1 away
Fleetwood are on a current good run. A bit like Rochdale were on a few weeks ago. And we were on. They may do a Barnsley but those sort of runs are a very rare. They will lose one or two and then see how their form is.Fleetwood also are on a great run. They may be top of the current form table
Hence why I fell into the trap last weekend of chucking a couple of quid on two forecasts
Blades/Fleetwood @ 15/2
Fleetwood/Blades @ 50/1
Its something I cant argue with
for those coming back with hes not achieved nothing yet
ask why did we get 28000 v scunthorpe in february if he hasn't improved things
We should look at what CW has put in place ready for the run in too. We have by far the biggest, strongest squad. So when others start to suffer with tiredness, injuries and suspensions we'll be able to rotate without too much depreciation of the quality in the first 11. How many teams around us would want a bench like ours with the likes of O'Shea, Carruthers, EEL, Scougall, McNulty, Lavery, Wilson and Riley, with Chapman on his way back too and the hardworking Done always ready to put in a shift? CW could be one of the best managers we've ever had.
