It's the balance that is wrong, not Sharp. He's more of a Firmino these days - in this system. Drops into the ten position and gets involved in the interplay with MGW and Ndiaye rather than getting manhandled by six foot odd centre backs . The problem we have is that this allows the opposition to play a high line and squeeze the pitch as none of these lads make medial runs behind the backline to keep them honest and make sure they drop. Osborn and MGW or Ndiaye have to run beyond the backline to give the other two or three the space in the ten position(s), before they hopefully arrive late to finish the chances.Teams just crowd the half spaces in central areas and stop us creating chances that way as we continually try and play through the eye of a needle with three or four bodies there and none running behind. We don't have players making penetrating runs off the ball which is a major problem. It also takes any counter attacking threat from us - everything is slow and deliberate. Easy on the eye, but lacking in efficacy.
There was a period yesterday when we got the balance right: one touch and two touch football with the third man running beyond. Unfortunately we missed the chances and it fizzled out for the rest of the game until the subs.

Moose's introduction made it even more obvious what we are missing -he played on the shoulder and opened the spaces up.There was two games yesterday, the one pre Moose and the one post Moose. It was exactly the same at Bournemouth.
One pass from our CB (Egs ?) to Dids completely opened them up after a deft flick from Dids found Sharp.

It’s this type of incisive play that sits behind all the patient backwards and sideways stuff that I so wish more of our fans would understand better and appreciate more 👀.

If I was building a team for the future mcburnie or Brewster

Freezing out both of those makes no sense two players who we could build around for the future

If not sell them and buy some players slav will play
If mcburnie is our future then god help us.At the moment Bill is our best option unless moose can stay fit.We nned to sell mcburnie ...he is utter pants

Four vertical balls including the flick. Davies, Didzy, Sharp, Didzy, cross - goal. Moose on the last line opening the space in the inside left and ten spaces for Sharp and Didzy to exploit. Liquid football.

2 goals in 12 from open play in the league

And he doesn’t lead the line well he’s annonymous for large parts

He was great v Peterborough but poor since
Sharp header could easily have gone in. Decent save.
Thing that's impressed me this season is his clever play too.
But... 3 assists v.peterborough. 1 assist Vs Bournemouth, 1 goal Vs hull. Winning pen Vs derby. Good play for mcgoldricks today.

Sharps been one of the better performers since his return from injury.

This team is still finding its feet, sharp can play a big part this season. Good to see two others get involved in the goals. Now need Mcburnie and Brewster to start showing more too.

I don’t I watch the match and judge on what I see not what club the players support or what they wear etc etc …

Sharps a legend but he doesn’t cut it for me I support SUFC not Billy sharp FC

He’s scored 6 goals in his last 53 appearance in open play 9 with pens which isn’t good enough

He doesn’t offer much else and has been annonymous since the Peterborough match

This argument has no credibility as the solution you offer is Brewster and / or McBurnie.

Sharp is not quick, tends to spend too much time diving to the floor to try and win free kicks, occasionally misses chances, occasionally gets caught offside but for all his “failings” he is far and away our only current striker who seems to understand and fullfills his role.

It would help if we played more strikers up front to help him , amazing what happened when when Moose and Didzy came on !

Can't believe I'm reading this shit, tbh I haven't read all the comments and I normally do before I post anything..

Anyway.

Bullet header blocked by the keeper and he'd no idea it wasn't in till it went out, he'd made himself big and got lucky.. 9 out of ten of them go in, why? Because Billy is fucking great at headers.

So...

Headed (I did say) a certain goal off the line.. We'd be finished after the second went in should that have been a goal, without sharp there guess what, its 1.0..

Ran and tackled for 94 minutes, was involved at both ends, possibly with a goal would have been mom, they had to watch out all game for him, one slip and he's in, how do you think MGW and Ndyie get all that space to play on the edge of the box?

Fit as a butchers dog, first name on team sheet, you'll cheer tuesday when he slots one in the top corner.

Statue in the car park or shoes are fucking off when he retires, hope you're reading this rant PA..

Lets not mention the perfect crosses he puts in when he drifts wide eh...

Ffs.. Call yourselves blades..

There’s only one person making the counter point.

And there’s always one. 😀

He should have a statue you are correct and he will

"Bullet header blocked by the keeper" - Straight at the keeper with half the goal open mcburnie misses that theres 20 page threads

"Ran and tackled for 94 minutes" - Chased shadows for the most part and barely got a sniff just like Bournemouth/middles borough/Bournemouth

I am a blade hence why I would rather play better players who have a long term future at the club if they get the chance

Sharp isnt good enough and is 36 years old his finishing has been poor this season and that's the only thing he can do better than the rest the only reason he's in the team is because he's Billy sharp

It looks like he's our only striker because he's the one who takes up 95% of the time on the pitch as a striker

Can't agree it was a great header or that the "keeper was lucky it just hit him, to be honest. It looked to me like Sharp tried to be too clever, and went near post when going across goal seemed the more obvious option. Unfortunately, the 'keeper wasn't fooled and made a great save.

Comparing billy to our other strikers even though he had his failings he seems to be the only one who understands his job.

mcgoldrick
Great link man but finishing is usually a failing

Mcburnie
Positional play is a problem, feet, brain and body not quick enough

brewster
Lots of potential but never seems to get into the right positions or make the move to create space

moose
When interested and fit is our best striker but when?

leaves billy as the only one who currently understands what is required

It is common every time another striker got a run of games that any half chance missed would be met with "Sharp would have buried that" "Sharp doesn't miss those". He does, consistently. To me he's not one of those does nothing all game but only needs one chance. He requires good consistent service to score. Just watch back the highlights so far this season, he could/should be on more goals than he is now. I don't think Sharp is not good enough (for this level) but he certainly isn't as good as people make out. I still think we should be giving more of a chance to the players who have more years ahead with us, and have the potential to step up to the next level.

It looks like he's our only striker because he's the one who takes up 95% of the time on the pitch as a striker
Actually it was quite the reverse. Sharp has become the starting striker because the alternatives can’t hit a bull’s ass with a banjo. They had their chance, and wank wouldn’t cover it.

Billy is still only 35 years old...

Not content with WUM-ing with the 'Sharp is crap' bollocks, he is now going for the pedants' revolt with "hence why".

What do people actually think 'hence' means and what is the 'why' supposed to add?

Im not saying he is crap im saying he isn't good enough to be no9 in a team wanting to be top 2 automatic

Plus hes 35 so there's no long term plant build a team around

Plus from what I have seen this season he has been quite poor when you take of your bladey blade billy sharp bias glasses

His finishing hasn't been good this season , he isn't fast , he's not a handful as much as some people like to think he is he only holds the ball up when you pass it directly to him

Hes a finisher but we have better options who we should be building the team around

Go on, I'll bite.

Not saying Billy is the answer, but you talk up McB and Brewster as better options, what about their performances this season or the past 12 months has led you to believe they are better options? Or God forbid build a team around.

They've got to graft in training and prove when they get a chance that they deserve a start. Which evidently hasn't happened yet.

I would like to believe the 40m pair are going to come good, but there's been precious little in red and white to suggest that, and hope isn't something to build a team around.
