I think it's harsh to say he didn't cut it.

To be frank Wilder shafted him really.

He'd just banged in 24 goals to get us promoted yet Wilder I suppose being seen to be 'ruthless' fucked him off in his prime. I still can't forget Wilder bringing on James fucking Wilson instead of Billy vs the Pigs at home.

Am I out of order? You need to score goals. You've a guy who got 24 for you and got your team promoted on the back of his goals. You then replace him at every opportunity, unsuccessfully and for a lot of money. Callum Robinson starts ahead of him; he's never been a centre forward. Oliver Burke starts ahead of him; he's never been a footballer. Lys Mousset starts ahead of him; yes he had a purple patch for a run of games but he's never been a professional athlete. All these guys Wilder couldn't wait to shove ahead of the guy who got his team up. Any other club, who would be putting their top scorer on the bench for the first game? I think Billy was done the dirty there and Wilder should have been far more grateful.

Take a look at his goals per game in the PL. It's as good as anyone of not better than all of them.

For me he stays on. Yes, he might be 5th of 6th pick but I'd rather be calling on a (hopefully) 250 goal league scorer then some kid if we are short on numbers.
Yep Wilder attempted to replace Billy with Brewster jnr ffs

I'd keep him for another year if he wants it but on a reduced wage and in the understanding that playing time would be limited (substitute appearances now). Maybe have him coaching the forwards in training each day and even some of the young lads who could learn a shit load of stuff from our Billy. Don't be to hasty to get try and move BS on. Still has a lot to offer us as a club though obviously he role to the club is now has to change going forward.

There are a lot of other of the old guard who do need moving on now though. We know who they are.

Nothing would please Bert more than to see him score number 250 today but he's only scored twice this season.
The notion that he'd be an asset on the field at the age of 37/38 in the Premier League is bonkers.
Yeah the experience he brings would just not be worth it… 😂

Other players have been good enough to play in the PL in their late 30's, so why not Billy? Teddy Sheringham played until he was 40. It's a question of fitness, not age.

I think Bash and Sharp starting tells a story. These types of games you give kids a run or players who deserve a send off

my neice was furious at me for this opinion all through the game so bit of trepidation in case im in the minority.

but its because we love him that highly. i hope this is how billy playing time ends & he moves to coaching with hecky. as billy deserves to go out on the highest of highs. i don't want to see him go out the back door because he gone 1 year too long & barely makes a appearance

There is value in him within the squad for those horrible times where all the starting forwards get injured. Someone to scramble goals in from set pieces, he knows where the net is.

I felt a bit emotional when he went off. I'm not going to either of the 2 last away games so I'm pretty sure that's the last I'll see of him playing for us. Really does feel like the end of an era. Absolute legend, deserves a job for life if he wants it. If he feels like he's got another year or 2 left at a lower level than we will be playing, then I hope he goes somewhere that will respect and love him, and I hope he smashes it up for whoever wants him.

If that was goodbye, then thanks for everything Billy. In the years to come I'll always be proud to tell younger Blades that I saw Billy Sharp play for us in his pomp.

I think we should fuck Tony Currie off from the JS suite and replace him with someone with a more personable demeanour and Billy would be a perfect person to fulfill such a role and rename it the Billy Sharp Suite.

And while we are at it get shut of the Dooley statue replace with a Blade.

Billy will probably be just as grumpy as TC when he gets to his age.

I could see him having a year at Rotherham or somewhere as I don't think he will want to move but might think he's got a season or two left in him

I love Billy but do we need him taking a spot in the 25 man squad? Although I guess he qualifies as a home grown player.

Hopefully stay on in a coaching roll

Billy is a bona-fide Blades legend and I'll be sorry to see him hang up his boots.

I'm slightly perplexed by the nature of his substitution today as I fully expected a proper opportunity for the fans to give him a proper standing ovation as he left the pitch for the last time.

However, he quickly slipped off making me think this wasn't his last hurrah.

Maybe looking into it too much but despite love and respect for Billy, he really shouldn't be anywhere near our 25 man PL squad.

He's no longer Championship squad level imho which isn't any slight on him at him at 37.

I thought maybe he did it that way on purpose to save himself from becoming too emotional. He's a passionate bloke, wears his heart on his sleeve, and he bleeds red and white. I think based on how he went off that he knows that's the last time he'll play at the lane, and it might have been a bit much for him to have a long, slow walk from the other side of the pitch.

I might be completely wrong mind you, but it occurred to me at the time.

think billy could do a David McGoldrick for a league one club , he has that experience and his ever diminishing pace is not so noticeable there
He can come back and coach in the future but he loves scoring and would still do so in the right setting , which unfortunately is not with us in the prem
when you see NDIAYE and Jebbison at full pace its evident father time has made the inevitable choice for him

It wont effect his legend status with us , hes different gravy, like Currie Deane and Edwards

I’m surprised that Sharp in his final years wants to spend it on the bench for us. I think he’ll be 4th/ 5th choice by the start of next season. I appreciate the money will be good for him & it’s his boyhood club, but he loves playing football and scoring goals which is something he’ll rarely do next season.

Could well be right. Maybe didn't want it to be about him.
