Billy Sharp - Statue

Why do we need a statue when the real thing is inside the stadium?
Perhaps we can Dip the real thing in Bronze and just put it in random locations inside the 6 yard box. JCR can be employed to move him at half time. Chances are he'd still get 10 goals a season and JCR can claim assists

I think he should get a round of applause on his shirt number, a statue in the car park and 12 vestal virgins before every game. Any advances on this?

If there is going to be a statue for goalscoring then I think old Harry Johnson or even Woody should be first in line.

Tedious point, I know but thems the facts.

Agree....might not be popular but having a statue of Billy Sharp is kind of tinpot.
He's a legend of the Championship and been a great ambassador for the club

but in the Premier League he's hardly done anything....so he's kind of similar to Keith Edwards.
Club legend yes but English football legend....no where near.

Regards players.....think we should only be having statues of regular internationals.
Once in a lifetime players and ideally players highly rated even by international standards, like a Tony Currie.

Hi,

Stegosaurus here.

Tony Currie only got 17 caps. That's 1 less than Carlton Palmer. That's 2 less than Danny Mills.

So, given his low number of caps--I don't see how people can say he was highly rated by international standards when Carlton Palmer and Danny Mills had a more illustrious England career.

I do think a statue could end up being a bit naff (so hard to get right) - but don’t agree that someone needs to be an English football legend, a premier league talent or a regular international to be a Club Legend.

It’s about what he means to the Club - and, in this case, what the Club means to him.

I think there were far less internationals being played at that time.

Jimmy Hagan got 16 caps during the war years and 1 afterwards.

Pretty sure none of the time would have swapped him for Danny Mills or Carlton Palmer and quite possibly Tony Currie!

Yeah, that is fair comment.

I was just making the point that if our record appearance maker has a statue, then I think our record goal scorer should be second in line.

Although, I guess Derek Dooley also has one so....

I'm still campaigning for a statue of the fella to the left above my name. The most successful United player of all-time, captain, International and county cricketer.

I'm not really in favour of this idea. He is probably my all-time favourite Blade, but I think it could be a bit naff to have one.

The Dooley statue was a McCabe thing, not a popular demand thing.

I still think it should be moved into town (his eponymous road?) and SEB’s boy put up instead.
