Well with Sharp signing i think we could see either Webber or Horsefield go.

Mind you there are rumours Hulse could be on his way out.

Sounds like we have held talks with Billy wihtout actually agreeing a fee with Scunny, very strange state of affairs.

From all the things I've read United have been talking with his agent, which happens all the time, but they will have to agree the fee with Scunthorpe and get permission to actually talk to the player.

By the look of it the fee is known and Sharp has indicated, through his agent, that he wants to sign for United.

We say we look set to sign him and they seem to think we havnt made an approach at all.

It's also been said that United only commented on Sharp because the piggies said they had lost out on him to us.

It's been said that we first made an approach to "Billy's People" 8 weeks ago so I think we've probably pretty much agreed terms with him without officially approaching Scunthorpe - hope we're not guilty of "tapping up" I don't know the rules though. It'll probably be a very quick turn around once we do speak with Scunny though. That's what I reckon anyhoo.

I wouldnt worry too much i mean you usually just get fined for things like tapping up and fielding illegal players these days. :)

According to this from The Star Warnock tried to re-sign Billy...........

TWENTY-four months after moving to Glanford Park for £100,000, Billy Sharp is expected to complete a £2 million return to former club Sheffield United today.
Lane boss Bryan Robson has beaten a host of clubs, including local rivals Sheffield Wednesday, to the 21-year-old's signature.

And Neil Warnock, Robson's predecessor who sanctioned Sharp's sale to Scunthorpe, today revealed he tried to re-sign the prolific young marksman last season.

Insisting his decision to sell Sharp was based on circumstances rather than a lack of belief in the player's ability, Warnock believes he will prove a huge hit at Bramall Lane after scoring 32 during Scunthorpe's march to the League One title.

"I'm delighted for Billy," Warnock told The Star. "He's a smashing lad and I know how much it will mean to him because, like me, he's a massive Unitedite.

"I actually made an inquiry about him earlier this year and when I read that Wednesday were in for him I thought that might smoke something out from United again.

"We always knew that Billy had what it takes but, at the time, he wasn't going to get in our team and we couldn't really afford to give him the contract he deserved.

"He did need more experience but he's got that now and he's shown what a dangerous forward he can be.

"The fans will take to him straight away because of his background and that will help him get off to a good start.

"He's got all the credentials to be a massive success."

Although Scunthorpe have demanded £2m for Sharp, Warnock's insistence on inserting a 25 per cent sell-on clause into the deal which took him to Lincolnshire could see United pay substantially less, especially as several members of Robson's squad are expected to travel in the opposite direction.

United, who could learn the result of their appeal against the Premier League's handling of the Carlos Tevez Affair this afternoon, will inevitably be criticised in some quarters for buying back Sharp for such an inflated fee.

But Warnock added: "These things happen all the time in football and they balance themselves out.

"Look at what happened to Colin Kazim-Richards recently.

"We got him for £150,000 and then sold him for over a million.

"The most important thing is that everything has worked out for both parties.

"United have got an excellent young player and Billy is where he always wanted to be."

That seems to sum the situation up pretty well, i'm sure that people will use this as another reason to slate Warnock but these things do happen in football.

Players with potential are a common occurance but until they are given a chance its like popcorn in the pan, some pop and some don't.

It seems apparent that Warnock knew the kid has talent but did not want to risk our pormotion season by giving an unknown player a chance, whilst this may be deemed a mistake, the fact that we got promoted without Billy must count in Warnocks favour.

I suppose you could say the same about Jags......Everton willing to pay the cash to take him back after releasing him as a youngster.

Exactly.

Newcastle rejected Alan Shearer as a trainee too before splashing a cool 15 million on him later in his career, i think we have to move on and just be happy that the lad is a blade again.

BILLY Sharp is on the verge of finally completing his move to Sheffield United.

The Telegraph has learned the 21-year-old front man is currently undergoing a medical at Bramall Lane.

The news comes a week after it was first leaked to the media that a return to the Blades could be on the cards.

The transfer fee is believed to be £2million, with 25 per cent of that figure going back to the Blades as part of the sell on clause.

Sharp's move to Sheffield finally brings to an end summer-long speculation about the player's future.

He attracted interest from Sheffield Wednesday, Norwich City and Wolves - but a return to the club from which he joined Scunthorpe nearly two years ago was always his preferred choice.

hope reports are true :D

Good news.

Just got to wait now for it to be announced on official site:)

After weeks of speculation striker Billy Sharp has finally completed a move to Sheffield United.

The forward has been linked with a number of Championship clubs including Norwich, Sheffield Wednesday and Wolves but opted to rejoin his former Club, the team who he supported growing up.

The Blades' undisclosed offer which included Jonathan Forte was accepted by the Iron on Monday evening.

Sharp joined United in August 2005 when Brian Laws paid the Blades £100,000 for his services just ahead of that month's transfer deadline.

The player made an immediate impact scoring a typical opportunist goal on his debut as the Iron won 1-0 at Nottingham Forest.
