Billy Sharp returns?

People are saying this has been mentioned on Radio Sheffield.

£2m

Although nothing confirmed yet!

BBC are reporting it...........

Sheffield United have agreed to sign Scunthorpe striker Billy Sharp for about £2m, reports BBC Radio Sheffield.

Sharp had previously been the subject of bids from Norwich, Sheffield Wednesday and Preston.

Those bids were all rejected and Scunthorpe chairman Steve Wharton made it clear that the club would listen only to offers of more than £2m.

The 21-year-old scored 32 goals last season as Scunthorpe won promotion from League One to the Championship.

From OS............

United's Football Club Chairman Terry Robinson says there is a real possibility that former Academy striker Billy Sharp could return to Bramall Lane.

Speculation regarding the future of the in-demand Scunthorpe United striker has been rife, with press reports linking the 21-year-old with a move to the Blades, Norwich City, Sheffield Wednesday and Wolves.

Robinson has admitted that Sharp, who scored 30 goals last season to help the Iron win promotion to the Championship, interests the Blades.

He said: "Billy was a product of our development system, but he's had a very good couple of seasons at Scunthorpe and is on everybody's shopping list.

"It's well known that Norwich City, Sheffield Wednesday and Wolverhampton Wanderers are all looking at him and have all discussed him."

Robinson continued: "Because nothing's been finalised, I can't confirm it, but I will not deny it. I'd have thought there was a good chance of Billy Sharp being at Bramall Lane next season.

"Bryan Robson spoke to the people concerned, as you'd expect, and we're both happy with the attitude of everybody involved in the potential deal. I'm not confirming that it's happened, but I'll not deny it that it will happen."

Under the terms of the £100,000 deal that took Sharp to Glanford Park two summers ago, United are entitled to 25 per cent of any transfer fee involving the striker.

"He went to further his career - rather than going out on loan, he decided that he wanted to go permanently. We did offer him a three-year contract, but I think Billy decided that he wanted to try his luck."

Robinson added: "At that time, we felt that he wasn't ready and wouldn't get the chances here. His development was definitely accelerated by the fact he went to Scunthorpe."

Great signing, a proper striker and finisher.

its already been mentioned that the 25% would be negated if he were to rejoin us, which is probably why our bid would be more favourable over the norwich bid of £2m

Just heard from a very reliable media (ha!) source that it's nailed on too. Come on!! Pigs will be having a bit of a laugh about it though. "Great business acumen. Next thing you'll be signing Akinbiyi for £10m" I've just had on an email.

Our board told Billy's people we wanted him 8 weeks ago. Hmm... 8 weeks, eh?

Most will be Jealous and Gutted they didn't get him, most I know were almost bouncing with joy that they looked like signing him. They're gutted now though, which is nice :D

Don't believe them to be honest. Dont see what United would gain by saying we have.

IF it happens, it will be a great signing. Blades fan too, lets hope he wears the shirt with pride and puts 100% in. I know i would!

So much has been said about Billy that I worry he will struggle to live up to the massive expectations that some people have for him.

I haven't seen the lad play but I know all about his goal scoring record and have seen a fair few of his goals on the various highlight programs around.
There can be no doubt that the lad has proved he can sniff out the goals in the lower leagues and this is the perfect opportunity for him to prove that he can make the step up.

Whilst I am desperate for the arrival of quality midfield players I think that the increased interest in Billy may have forced our hand and so I am not disappointed that another striker has arrived before we have addressed the more pressing need in the middle of the park (not to mention before culling the strikers currently at the club).

I now think that we should see the back of two of the four peripheral strikers (Webber or Shelton and Nade or Horsfield) before bringing in at least two new creative midfielders.

All things considered, this is a good move that has come a little earlier then I expected but we have all been crying out for some activity and now we have it.

Thus ends the 'bring back Billy Sharp' campaign that has done my head in for the past two seasons.

Welcome home lad.
