Ok last weekend was near to it but for me even worse was what happened to the Spackman side of (1997? I think)

If I remember rightly we became the last unbeaten team in the country after Arsenal got beaten in Europe. We were playing great stuff with Borbokis and Wayne Quinn down the flanks and a crippled Paul McGrath running a 3-man central defence. I remember 1 home game where Spackman threw on 4 out and out strikers when we were a goal down (Deane, Fjortoft, Taylor and Katchuro) to turn around the game. Great results AND attractive passing football.

Of course it all went tits up in the end. Spackman walked on a Wednesday afternoon after being forced to sell Deane and Taylor and we lost our 1st match of the season that evening. The certain promotion turned into a spirited cup run (sound familiar?). McGrath's knees give up, Quinn went to Everton, Katchuro discovered pizza ...

Biggest disapointment for me was losing to the pigs at wembley in the semi-final of the FA cup. Absolutely gutted that night. Was boozing at 5am that day to get into the mood as it was a 1pm kick off. :cry2:

Biggest disappointment? Christ, where do I start? Selling off good players? Losing the big matches? Not being one of the "Big Four"? Not having won a decent trophy since Jesus, SF and SEB were kids?
Or the constant disappointment in some of our fans who reckon we've got a God-given right to success, and then moan like hell when we fail?

Seeing my daughters face a few weeks ago when she found out that after seeing Mccabe and asking him if Beattie was staying, and her been promised that he was...to hear the next day on sky sports he'd gone. Also losing to wednesday...anytime :)

Crystal Palace play off final. Not sure why it hurts more than the rest but it did, maybe a combination of the weather, lots of (overpriced) alcohol, good company, friendly banter, optimism, hope, etc. All in all it was the perfect day until that goal.

Or maybe I've just become a lot more cynical, pessimistic and have got used to the disappointment as the years have gone on.

Oooh the Wolves play-off final for me.

Followed by last weeks match against the pigs.

Wolves play off final, the press and everyone had basicly writen wolves off, we just had to turn up, play the match, and collect the trophey

what happened? :-(

I'm inclined to say Wolves as the biggest disappointment too. Worst day has to be Walsall, but the bitter disappointment of Wolves was not good.

I remember getting there (eventually) with sufclucy, and we were all thinking "No negative thoughts!", "We're not having another Palace!", "They won't let us down!", and then to amble round the concourse 45 minutes later utterly stunned.

Palace was a kick in the teeth after a crap match; Walsall was just too upsetting to be disappointing; Wolves was bitter disappointment.

Using that logic, being relegated by Bristol City in the play-offs has to be up there too.

The penalty.......the pigs at wembley.........wolves..........arsnic at owd trafford, how did spunkman save it ? ....just a few.

Always expecting sumat............never getting owt !

I think the most gutted I have ever felt is watching United be cheated off the pitch at Arsenal in the FA Cup Semi at Old Trafford in 2003.

So near and yet so far.

I think i felt more proud that day not dissapointed, it was a game on paper we weren't meant to win, yet the only way they beat us was by cheating.

Biggest dissapointment for me was the play offs against wolves, and comin back here to all the shit.

The most guttin day has to be against wigan i dont think that pain will ever go away.

-That rainy sunday in 2007, Wigan, coming back in my hotel, looking at door hotelroom, 13.
-feeling ashamed to people I took with me last week to derby, they ve all seen how hard it was to lose twice after 95 years, knewing I ve seen both loses.
-replay Arsenal, losing on penaltys
-semifinal vs pigs
-play off final Wolves

- All the broken promises on spending an team improvements - amazing what gets promised when its season ticket buying time.

- The lack of ambition

- The poor quality training (my opinion)

I watched Swansea vs Fulham over the weekend and Swansea were a team apart from United to say they're in the same division. Fantastic football and ball skills. In fact they looked the Premiership side not Fulham.

We need a manager like Martinez. Great player buys and great training in footballing skills.

If they make the play offs, United have no chance. I can only presume they're below us now because of a poor start to the season because they're certainly a class apart now.

the pigs other week but the £500 i lost backing the blades in the play off against wolves was not very nice combination of drink and pay day and one of those days where i had my red and white glasses on got the better of me i spent the rest of the month losing quite a bit of timber! probably the stupidist mistake of my life ....... i should have put £400 on instead

Just a bit of a tip mate, always bet on the other team playing united and then you can't be disappointed, you see if united win, then woohoo party time, if the other team win your in the money..
Personally I would never bet on united.

too true.........when the Blades were 10 points off relegation in the Premiership i had a £100 bet @ 20-1 we'd get relegated...............win win situation i thought..........never been more misereable when somebody handed mi £2k

The aftermath of that penalty. Seeing grown men of my Dads age openly weeping on the kop. The lowest! :(

Boxing Day a few years before, especially as I was sat in the main stand with loads of piggies! :(

The OP cant have been that affected as he got pretty much ever fact wrong in his post.

Never knew Quinn went to everton or we sold taylor and not fjortoft on the same day as deane.

Wayne Quinn went to Newcastle, and it was definitely Fjortoft and Deane - J.A. went to Barnsley and Deano to Benfica.
