Ok last weekend was near to it but for me even worse was what happened to the Spackman side of (1997? I think)
If I remember rightly we became the last unbeaten team in the country after Arsenal got beaten in Europe. We were playing great stuff with Borbokis and Wayne Quinn down the flanks and a crippled Paul McGrath running a 3-man central defence. I remember 1 home game where Spackman threw on 4 out and out strikers when we were a goal down (Deane, Fjortoft, Taylor and Katchuro) to turn around the game. Great results AND attractive passing football.
Of course it all went tits up in the end. Spackman walked on a Wednesday afternoon after being forced to sell Deane and Taylor and we lost our 1st match of the season that evening. The certain promotion turned into a spirited cup run (sound familiar?). McGrath's knees give up, Quinn went to Everton, Katchuro discovered pizza ...
