I listened to it in the car earlier when I was driving through Sheffield, and it was a great interview and I really enjoyed it. I still had a genuine sense that he was a bloke who was reflecting on something extraordinary that he had the chance to do, and never took it for granted, and from hearing him speak it was still very clear that he felt the same way as he came across when he was a player. I can also remember an excellent interview with him some years ago in the Flashing Blade. It was nice to hear from someone who was at the time a genuine cult hero.

It was just a shame that the first caller after Dougie had been on the radio was that attention seeking pillock Brian......

Every once in a while United have a player who clearly loves the club in a way that is somewhat unique an establishes a relationship with the fans far beyond the normal duties that players do. Bob Booker was certainly one and Hodgson another. Dane Whitehouse was clearly too, but he was a fan of the club from a young age, although saying that so was many of our players but Whitehouse was the only one who syatyed all his career here, despite offers to go elsewhere. There are others of course but those three stand out.

I loved the Hodgson interview too. I remember him doing well under Kendall. Its a shame he's not over here still. His radio commentaries were class too I recall!

Had a good chat with him on Saturday after the game. He'd managed to round up a few of the old players for a good session. He was telling us how privileged he was to play for the Blades. When Tufty came in he gave his observations on how our defence played and how they could improve. Tufty wanted to meet up with him on Sunday to talk it through. From the way he still speaks about the game and the Blades it would be good to see him back in Sheffield in some kind of coaching roll. UTB

Totally agree, his no nonsense style of play may no longer be as fashionable but all teams need an element of it to succeed. Could see him being a great asset to but I suspect his health has really hampered any chance of further involvement in the game.

I loved the part of the interview where they asked him about his time at the academy and Staton suggested that he may have played a part in developing the Jags,Tongue et al. He replied with great humility, 'if I only contributed towards 1% of what those players became then I am honoured' or words to that effect. Pure class. Never met him but he sounds like a proper gem.

Loved Dougie - certainly not blessed with amazing ability but one of the most wholehearted players I've seen for us. Seem to remember an outstanding performance away at Bradford where he possibly scored? Hazy memories at best.

I remember his goal at Bradford. The winner was a header from Andy Scott that Schwarzer should have saved but slipped past him.

The other stand out memory from that game was Paul Parker playing left back and giving one of the worst performances I've ever seen.

That was Boxing Day 1996. Our seventh away win of the season. It was also our last away win of the season, and the last time we led away from home in the league that year.

Nice listen that. Always thought he made an interesting summariser on Radio Sheffield (with Gareth Hampshire?). Hadn't appreciated he'd played for NW at two clubs. Loved his story about scaling the roof of the bus to ask Kendall if he could get a game.

Have got some hazy memories of his section on the Blade Runners book that came out a few years back. I'm sure he mentions contemplating suicide at one point, living on a farm with easy access to guns.

I also recall a quote regarding nearly scoring, maybe on his debut, at BL. Something along the lines of, 'it's probably a good job it didn't go in, I'd have been having a wank in the centre circle'.

Not read it for years so apologies if I'm confusing him with somebody else.
