4-0 away at Leeds 2005. One of the first Scandinavian Blades trips. My Leeds mate still claims that the match never took place. :D
That was a great game. Only spoiled by the fact we had to look miserable walking back to the car pretending we weren't Blades! Good old Jags. That was the game when he came over to the fans at the end saying 'Easy, easy, easy' wasn't it? We were shoved in that silly little corner while the whole of the next stand was empty.

Probably the play-off win against Forest 4-3, but I remember a fairly enjoyable 6-0 demolition of WBA :) Also the 5-3 win against Cardiff 2003 when it was 0-0 HT.

Edit: The 3-0 win against West Sham in 2007 was good too, especially Morgan's wrestle with Tevez !

Was that the night match where we got locked in after the game for what seemed like ages after? Players came out to warm down & they had to go back in again as fans were winding them up & they weren't paying attention?!
Then when we were finally 'released' it made absolutely no difference as the scum were still waiting to cause trouble?

Best game I've seen by decade:

1970's: can't remember enough about any game to pick one!
1980's: either United 6 Orient 3 in 1983-4 or United 6 Chester 1 in 1988-9.
1990's: United 2 Wednesday 0 in 1991-2, with honourable mentions for Ipswich POSF and both FA Cup quarter final replays
2000s: United 4 Forest 3 in the POSF
2010s: clubhouse leader is Rochdale 2 United 5 last year.

Saw us beat Ipswich 7 -1 at the lane I think. Was late 60's early 70's. Not sure if it was in the Div 1.

7-0. Division 1 27th November 1971 (Woodward 4,1 pen, Badger, Dearden, Reece).

Cue Silent to tell me I have the scorers on the wrong order :-)

If not the wrong order I'm sure he'll be along to test you on how far Badger was over the half way line (only about 5 yards I reckon) when he scored.

As an aside Dazzler, which do you prefer, these "historic" threads where you can bring your strange encyclopedic knowledge to the fore, or a 60 page pedantic/bullshit fest with Walthy?

They both appeal to different aspects of my strange, complex personality :-)

I would split them up into 3 categories:

Enjoyed the promotion seasons and any vital wins in those (Hull 3-2) . Missed Liecister as was too young to go (said my Dad! -arrghh)

Also any wins against the odds - we had a few when we were under Bassett 90-93 and beat some of the top sides. Recently very little stands out outside of 02-03 season where they were many although enjoyed Arsenal 1-0 (Nade)

Also any win against Wednesday; home or away. Fortunate to have seen us ebat them more than they have beat us.

All that said; my favourite game has to Forest 4-3. I know we lost the final but that night was the noisiest I have ever heard the Lane. Really proud to be a Blade that night. My Dad remarked it was the best game/occasion he had ever seen down there and he hadbeen through back end of Hagan and ito Currie et al. Meant a lot for him to say that and remember drinkign in the street near the Nelson after the game. Sadly he died a few months after but it was a great memory of my last real time at the Lane/watching United with my Dad (he did not go to the Millenium saying we would lose - typical negative attitude that I have followed on with!).

Seen some great games over the years, but one that sticks out for me is the 6-3 away win at Luton at the back end of Bassetts era i think, great fun.

Right, Darren, remember this in order when you are out on a training run

Woodward (placed shot just inside the box)
Woodward (pen-Salmons was brought down in the box after a mazy run)
Reece (headed in a Woody corner)
Badger (hopeful 40 yarder that Sivell pushed into the top of the net when he really should have saved it)
4-0 at half time
Dearden (broke through the defence and placed the ball past Sivell as he was coming out)
Woodward (superb left footed shot from outside the left side of the penalty box after the ball bounced in front of him- Sivell made a despairing dive attempting to stop the shot that went to the top corner of the goal)
Woodward (Sivell tried to cut a low cross from Salmons and the ball fell to Woody who was in the penalty spot area and the scorer placed the ball over the grounded keeper)

I remember the 3-3 at Port Vale in 1988-89 being a stormer...

We went 1-0 up via Franny Joseph, then 3-1 down, then it was 3-2 within a minute of Vale getting their 3rd after Peter Duffield snuck in to get one,and then a classy volley by Deano made it 3-3.

Liverpool at home 1.0 win, (Gary hamson) night match, Amazing atmosphere,
6.1 away win at Cardiff was good as well.

November 6th 2005, United 0 - 0 Gilligham.

That was the in the middle of the years when I'd go to every week to watch United and invariably ended up smashed. Remember that one as I'd been out the night before until about 6 in the morning after finishing an good night around town. I ended up starting on the ale at about 9 the next morning and being smashed before the match, went in and took some power coke with me, before making the executive decision that the public house would be a better idea at half time, and the next thing I can remember was waking up in the Howard at half 6.

Just glad I've calmed down a bit since those times as I'd be walking round with my liver in a carrier bag nowadays. Good times spendin most of my 20's on the lash watching the Blades every weekend.

4-3 v Forest

That would be my favourite as well. Remember being 2-0 down and instead of thinking same old United I was adamant that we could turn in round, and when we dragged it back to 2-2 I had every confidence that we would end up at Cardiff. I can also remember Des Walker planting a header past his own keeper and still celebrating that goal when Forest made it 4-3 a minute later.

After the match that night, I don't think I slept for a few hours because I was still on such a high from the match

The game where Jags went in goal at Millwall was the year before as well.

And remember the completion of Del Geary's reprogramming when he fired the winner in from 25 yards and slid to the ground in front of the Blades kissing the badge!

yeah that was a good one.. Liverpool were the best team in the world at the time

and it was in the days when "top" players didn't need a rest every other week. Played their proper team and we still beat 'em.
We cost them the championship a few years earlier when Terry Nichol gave us a similar 1-0 on another tremendous night which is another standout for me.

Don't know if anyone has mentioned it yet , 2nd March 93, United 6 Spurs 0 was a good game if you were a Blade

I remember being at that match, stood behind the goal, holding onto the white railings in my snorkel Parka, my Dad somewhere further up the kop, absolutely fantastic experience, loved every second.

I was probably behind you a few rows back on the kop. Can see me on the TV highlights after one of the goals - was it Tyne Tees tele & Stuart Macklin commentating? Not seen that for years

That's the one :0

Especially if you went with a very pompous Spurs fan! The father of my daughter's boyfriend at the time. I smirked all the way home, but was magnanimous in victory.

Don't remember that match being on the telly to be honest, but would love to see it if it was.

But had it been, its a dead cert that Keith Macklin would have been commentating, I think he was the only one they had back in them days. As I recall it was a typically slick YTV production that looked like it had been filmed in someones garden shed, hosted by Fred Dineage and predominantly focusing on Dirty Leeds. Good to see that nothings changed in 40 years! Oh and expert opinion from Derek Dougan, why, I'm not sure?
