Best team line up with Leonard in midfield

He's battling for Lundstram's place.

I'd definitely expect him to play a fair bit though to justify paying such a fee when he only had 6 months left on his deal.

Could he replace Carruthers on the bench as a Duffy sub? That's about the only space I can see at the moment unfortunately.

Not a bad problem to have I suppose.

Can play in either of the 3 midfield spots. Adds competition for places, which is something we lack

He takes Carruthers’s role on the bench, coming on for (or in for) Lundstram or Fleck when required. We will no longer have to crow-bar Carruthers into a standard midfield role when he’s better suited to the Duffy role, nor will we need to shift Basham from defence – where I hope he remains now for the rest of the season.

I think Lenoir will give us similar to what Basham has. Consistency and versatility that enables us to be flexible all the time.

In regard to what has been said above, he needs to find his feet in the squad, get to know the lads and then play his way into the side.

That said, this could effectively provide us with a versatile 5 battling for 3 spots, which always encouraging: Duffy, Fleck, Lundstram, Brooks and now Leonard. That's without factoring in Whiteman and Carruthers or Slater. Then there's the eventual return of Coutts. One signing and suddenly things are looking up again. UTB.

Clapper.

Get him in tomorrow, I realise he is cup tied but give him another players name who is registered, say Whiteman, come on it hapoens in the local leagues all the time, I got sent three times in a season, all under different names, what?

You have the two deeper midfield roles. Candidates: Lundstram, Fleck, Leonard, Slater, Whiteman. Eventually Coutts.

Then the forward midfield role. Candidates: Duffy, Brooks, Leonard, Carruthers and I'd like to see if Lundstram can do this role too if he has running with the ball in his locker. He'd be a big old unit for the opposition to get off the ball if he could offer that in his game.

I'd also like to see Fleck try the Duffy role and this is an option we have now as we could play Lundstram and Leonard deeper behind Fleck. There's quite a few options now.

Our central midfield is shaping up very nicely at the moment.

With Whiteman also back, we now have much more versatility. Provides proper cover for Fleck and Lundstram while pushing them for a starting role, and allows us to rotate without losing quality.

Could allow us to push Fleck a bit further forward if Duffy tires and has to come off? He's not a direct replacement, but on current form I'd personally rather replace Duffy with Fleck as opposed to Carruthers, with Leonard and Lundstram further back. Think it's still too early to write Carruthers off though.

Apparently Leonard also has a long throw, which might come in handy.

Alright Pep, calm down.

No, put him on the bench until he trains his way into the side, Lundstram plays his way out of the side or we get an injury/suspension, whichever comes first. That's how CW rolls.

At this rate it’s Fleck who’s position is in doubt.

Yeah I haven't seen much of Lenny but from what I've heard it seems he can play both the deeper role and the driving forward role so both positions are under threat. It should keep both Fleck and Lundy on their toes.
Looks like he can shoot too. If Whiteman impresses we've suddenly got a lot of potential goals from midfield, something I think we've lacked a bit previously.

One option, a bit more solid:

Moore
Basham Stearman O'Connell
Baldock - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Stevens
Lundstram
Leonard - - - - - - - Fleck
- - - Duffy
Clarke

That my son, is exactly where Lundstram should be playing IMHO. However with that formation you lose the two strikers and the unpredictability of the floating Duffy. I would rather see Leonard Fleck and Duffy in midfield with Clarke and Donaldson up front. However, in certain circumstances that is a side which would work as long as there is flexibility between the Lundstram and Duffy positions.

I thought he was the alternative to Duffy ?

He can play right back, central defence and midfield he has a good long throw too, as mentioned earlier so the lad is the most versatile player we have had since Greg Halford.
