I was at a dinner with about a hundred "Liverpudlians" on the night of the "Hillsborough disaster" this was before the full extent of the tragedy had unfolded. They came across as friendly, humble people who never wanted to forget their roots, and i think this prevails even today, they are like us, critical at times because they want to see some effort and respect from other people whether it be footballers, politicians or just ordinary folk, if you respect them they will give it back it spades. I love their honesty and their traditions, and just like ours long may it last, true supporters of their heritage.

FWIW the Arkles pub was far different from the last time I was in there. Back in 2003 we were ambushed by Liverpool fans and there was glass and blood flying everywhere. This time we all mingled very nicely and enjoyed a relaxing beer. The owner even welcomed us over the pub tannoy.

We left about 5 minutes before the attack. There were families from both sides in that pub. Cowardly attack

Wow!!! that's a bit scary, thought scousers were comics for the world.

A couple of things. Firstly Scousers arn't funny. They think they are as they believe their own press but having lived there for three years you find out just how lacking in wit the comic culture there is. e.g. I did a summer job on Mersey Rail working with a scouser, we were counting punters on the platforms and on the trains. There was around 10 folk on one platform "we've add more in our 'ouse" quips my "colleague" as if this wasn't dull enough he proceeded to say the same thing station after station. This example was repeated by other Scousers I came across who had to show you how witty they were by quoting old scouse jokes, over and over. It became beyond tedious.
Secondly they wouldn't have found us so funny if we wern't so self effacing. We were being typically Sheffield, understating. This feeds into to the Scousers superiority complex. It is really Red Scousers as Evertonians aren't as bad you can have a football conversation with them (to a point) without them having to brag about what they have won etc.

What I will say as a positive about my three years in Scouseland is that the "stereotype" of the friendly scouser was true. I did get on well with the people I knew, so long as they kept their "humour" to themselves. I do personally know a very witty scouser who was a colleague at sea and my best man 21 years ago, but he is not the norm.

Walked back to the coach with 2 Scousers, they said we were the best supporters that had been to Anfield but the worst team. Fair comment.

Promotion seasons aside, it's my favourite season by miles. Not 1, not 2, but 3 iconic kits. Cult heroes galore, the best derby double ever, magnificent goals and saves, great wins against massive clubs.

Let's hope in a few month's time it becomes my 2nd favourite.
