Best and worst Premier League moment

An interesting article in the Guardian to mark 25 years of the Premier League. They interview a supporter from all 47 clubs who have been in the Premiership. The Blades fan chooses the 1-0 win against Arsenal when Jags was in goal as the high point and the subsequent relegation against Wigan the low point (pointing out that Jags handling was an issue in both games).
For me, the high point has to be the very start, Brian Deane scoring the first Premier League goal. The low point, inevitably, the two relegations.
The only other fan who mentions a United game is the Nottingham Forest supporter. His low point is their relegation in Brian Clough's last game, a 2-0 defeat to us. I am always happy for us to win, but that has to be the most bittersweet United game that I can remember. Even United fans joined in the chanting of Cloughie's name (a pity we hadn't invented the All You Need Is Clough chant yet!)

I would also say the Stein goal was also a terrible moment for us as a club.

Remember the season after is when the PL really took off and we had the likes of Klinsman signing for Spurs & Gullit for Chelsea etc.

Who knows how we would have got on if we were not relegated? It would also be another 12 years before we saw the PL again.

The worst moment for me was the Stein goal and the 2 minutes that followed it. Even worse than 2007 (though that is of course a close second).

Best moment? Deano scoring the first PL goal for me, I think, but the Arsenal game is up there. Winning at Anfield is also on my list.

Liverpool went 2-1 up, and then Willard compounded the misery by sending off Chris Morgan for an innocuous shoulder-to-shoulder challenge with Owen, who again went to ground theatrically.

Best moment: You could talk about avoiding relegation on the final days of the season in 1994 and 1998

The Geordies
Worst moment: John Carver being about as useful as an underwater hairdryer as we fell to Championship relegation in 2016.

Worst moment: It’s May 1993, I’m 13, and we’re playing Sheffield United in our final home game of the season, knowing anything less than a win means relegation in Brian Clough’s final season in charge. We stink, as we have done all year, and lose 2-0. Midway through the second half, as it’s clear the win belongs to the Blades, the entire crowd sing Cloughie’s name, the tired old genius manages a sad little wave and my heart breaks.

Thames Valley Royals:
Best moment: The very first day in the top flight: 19 August 2006. We were 2-0 down to Middlesbrough with taunts from the away end of “This is the Premiership,” but we stormed back with goals in consecutive minutes from Dave Kitson and Steve Sidwell and never looked back that season, finishing a remarkable eighth place

God I'm getting old, completely forgot that one and I was there on John Street west terrace as well! Was that the next game after beating the Pigs 3-1 at the sty? Didn't Cork have a one on one right at the end but was just too slow?

This is interesting, as in a book I read recently Owen is quoted as saying Morgan was the only player he ever played against who made him afraid for his physical well-being.

Too young to remember our previous premier league stay, so personally I've got to agree on beating Arsenal as my best Blades PL moment. If I had to pick a single moment from that match, it'd be Jags' fingertip save to deny Van Persie and keep us in the lead.

Probably echo those LE , after turning the oinks over at ours when they were all giving Billy big bollocks before I went that night I thought if we can pinch a draw I'd be happy as Larry . Queue Bobby Davison and the pigs all booing Chris Woods .. absolute fkg bliss !! Had an entertaining walk to and from the ground too lol ! I'd also add the 6-1 hammering of Spurs in there , yeh I was at Stamford Brigde for that one never saw us going down especially at 2-1 and all other results going in our favour ..I still think Fashanu , Segars and the other bent cunts there betted on them to lose at Everton

Beating Forest for the first win of the season in December would be a cracker of a moment. Nobody had ever been bottom at Xmas and stayed up in the Prem era. However the season before we did it and managed to finish in the bloody top half!

Our fans did join in with the Clough chant - but we also enjoyed singing "You're going down in a minute" to the Forest fans. No bittersweet feelings for me I must say.

I remember that day very well as I was dressed in a bear costume. A cracking day and i loved it when Brian clough stepped out of his dugout and gave a thumbs up to the traveling blades fans who had been chanting his name!, in the next breath we then told all the forest fans that they're going down in a minute. I've still got a photo from that day of me in my bear costume with a home shirt over it!!. I've still got the shirt as it has a few autographs on the back!.
