maybe hecky sees this 10/12m for berge as a way to bring obrien and coady in as well as getting doyle back on loan with only a year left on his contract and likely to walk next summer for free i can live with that

Not a chance this is true.

If we hadn’t gone up this season we would be facing administration if the current ownership stayed at the club.

We have to have a solid 2 years to get out of the mess. This includes free transfers, loans, spending wisely, minimal spend and as much success as possible on the pitch to attract a takeover.

In the mean time we have to bring in more money than goes out. Steady the ship and hope for the best.

If Berge goes for 10m we’ve had our pants down and become a hell of a lot weaker whilst being ripped off.

Try it this season and let him go for free if it doesn’t work.

What’s all this about?

If nowt to do with the club and nowt to do with Berges agent then who the fk is it to do with?

The club may or may not use the services of a third party whose sole job is to sell our players. Sold one player in two years

And how many goals? Surprised if he wasn't +10 goals and assists

Just checked 7 goals and 5 assists. So yeah, replace them with a piddly £12-13m. Not happening. Especially not with OBrien and Choudhury.
I would rather have a player who is 7/10 week in week out, then berge who is 8/10 ever 5 games. Rest of the time he disappears more times than Lord Lucan 🤔

I get that Fatlad, but the issue is of course is if the 7/10 player you’re expecting turns out to be nothing more than a disappointing 5/10 week in week out

No guarantees unfortunately

its a tricky one this with berge he could either thrive in the premier league or totally bomb do we cash in to bring 2 players in for the loss of 1 or do we stick with berge hoping he helps us stay in the premier league knowing he could then walk for free next summer over to you hecky

It’s quite a simple decision isn’t it?

We manage to get £15m from a team that’s just sold a player for £100m. We then spend the money on 2 or 3 players who will still be at the club at the start of the 24/25 season.

The alternative is that we don’t & we don’t. And then we’ll properly be in the shit. 🤷

I’ve nailed my colours to the mast many a time on this subject.
Berge IS one of our 3 best players along with Ndiaye and Anel. Chances are we’ll lose all 3 next summer. But we shouldn’t be thinking about letting one of them leave for peanuts now. Let’s build around them with the resources we’ve got and have a crack at Premiership survival. With any luck we might just surprise a few and then who knows what might happen.
For what it’s worth, I don’t think there’s any truth to this rumour anyhow

Can't argue with that at all.

You'd also need to find someone who could provide 10 goals/assists that Berge might provide cos O'Brien and Choudhury sure as shit ain't producing them.

Berge is unlikely to replicate Championship numbers in the Prem, the step up is huge.
In any case, he won't be providing any goals or assists in 23/24 when he walks for nothing.

There's a lot of recency bias with Berge.
He started and finished the season well, between that he had injuries and form so bad that most didn't think he warranted a place in the starting XI.
If his form is no better next season the fans will be on top of him (even more than they already are) knowing he's walking on a free. It'll be Lundstram MKII.

Even if we could only bring O'Brien in with the Berge funds, we'd at least have an asset on our books for the next few seasons and a replacement for Fleck.

I think we have to look beyond next season given the contractual situation if the majority of our squad.

10m is probably the maximum we'd get

Why? Because other clubs have watched him play, and he only has a year left

But that is still enough to go towards signing 2 good CMs of the right age on permanent deals. Smallbone and OBrien/Field would be great. Then try and loan Doyle as well

10m is also a low enough fee to enable clubs to pay Berge closer to any signing fee he'd get as a free agent

But why do I get the feeling that we'd drag this sale out until deadline day, if it is to happen. Then loan Hourihane for a season to replace him

If we are to sell it needs doing quickly. Otherwise replacement options will have dried up

His contract is highly likely to include a substantial loyalty bonus if he sits it out for another 12 months as this is quite standard. So he doesn’t exactly leave for free, we will also be paying him off. This will have been factored into budgets, but another factor to consider.

Assists are one of the biggest fallacies in football. You could create 10 chances a match, but if your teammates don't score any of them, you have no assists.
No, good point.
It's worth mentioning then that at one point we we top of the chances missed league.

Sorry but you hang on to your best players….I’m sure this talk of Sander going for 10m has come from agents etc, there’s no way Hecky would want to lose him especially for a paltry sum.
A not so good comparison of a players worth in his last season of contract is Mason Mount (55m and rising)…tin hat on with that one…if somebody wants a player bad enough then he retains value.
Choudry / Obrien as a replacement is laughable although I would take either as an addition.
No brainer …he stays even if he goes for nowt in the end…⚔️

Aye and surely in the top 3 wage earners too. I think if we had any money you're 100% right. But if getting him off the wage bill (and getting £10m in the bank rather than nowt in a few months) buys us a couple who'd make us stronger and give us a better crack at staying up and more of an investment for the future, we've got to. I personally wouldn't choose for him to go but we've got to be pragmatic, we're skint.

Exactly, additions as well as not instead of, you don't keep flogging your best players especially in the prem!!

100%

Berge is going at the end of the season so if we get 10m for him plus his wages gone we can replace him now and maybe some left over for a decent loan. Win win

Not having a jab ay anyone but replacing Berge who are we talking about?
I'd trade him for Choudery if we could afford Choudery's wages.
Doyle but £10m is not enough money + wages.
O'Brien? I've watched this kid's reels on the net and I can't see what the fuss is about (I'm not a Huddersfield fan or scout so it was the only way); I'm assuming somebody raved about him and everybody just agreed how fantastic he was.
Most of the other names have not even played more than a season at Championship level, so we'd be losing a capable Premier league player for a 'maybe'. And the fine lines between winning or drawing a game or even just scoring the extra goal which saves United are not worth risking.
