Berge

His height and his build should make it easy for him to play the game. He does have pace and talent. Sadly none of that is in evidence over a game for blades.
As nice as the lad is, he just doesn’t fit in to the system, and he can’t make all his virtues come together for us.
Move him on, yes, but please not to Belgium.

Good player. Would be sad to see him going as in terms of talents one of our best.
Our style of play doesn't suit him at the moment though. If we tried to play football in the middle of the park and keep possession we would be seeing a more included and efficient Berge. Every game he plays he always looks to keep the ball down and play to feet with some nice driving runs when he has the chance. Whilst we spend 50% of the game just lumping the ball clear against teams like Millwall, Blackpool & Luton etc then it's pointless having much quality in the middle of the park as we bypass them all the time and smash it to safety first (whilst i love Norwood he's one of our worst offenders for this). God help us if we get promoted! I would love to see our mentality change and put more value on keeping the ball on the deck and playing to feet. Then I believe we would all be seeing a much more efficient team/ midfield and Berge.

Didn't play well yesterday but fucking hell, why always the need to be slagging someone off?
Not really about how he played so much even though he was dire . It was his demeanour and attitude and effort .

He has been poor for ages and looks acct as though he isn’t interested - which is unforgivable as we are where we are and we need him

It doesn't necessarily follow that Berge not being nearly as good as he could be, means that he's been a net failure. On the whole, I believe that we've been better for him being in the team.
He definitely looks the part, tall, athletic, wears the shirt well, increases the average height of the midfield. All good boxes to tick, just needs to start trying now and we're away!

Surely even his biggest advocates can drop the ‘he’s a Rolls Royce’ schtick now.
Grinds my gears every time I see that.
He is a Rolls Royce though. In fact, he's pretty much the definition of a Rolls Royce player.

He's a fucking delight when the team is playing well, dominating the opposition and has got space/time.

He's ineffective when pressed, when it's a wet and muddy and when you have to put in the hard yards.

In other words, he's a luxury. Like a Rolls.

So an unreliable luxury.
Can’t disagree with that definition.

He'll end up playing in the Danish/Belgian/Swedish etc .. league. 'Cos that's his level. the idea that he could play Premier League football is ridiculous. In the Prem, tackles are harder

Wait, what? Have you actually watched a Premier League game recently? If tackles were harder there than they are in the Championship every game would finish eight a side

As per my previous post in this thread I'm a supporter of him - but he looked like he'd been Space Jam'd on Saturday.
Trudged around in a daze, hardly touched the ball for long periods, fluffed headers and the miss at the end just summed up his afternoon - would've taken him off were it not for ndiaye's injury.

Hope to see a reponse in the next couple of games but his form post-injury has been a world away from those games pre-injury :(

Let's break this down.

1. He cost £22 million - Brewster cost more. Who cares what someone cost?
2. International - For a country which hasn't qualified for an international competition since 2000. Burke is an international for a more successful team.
3. Champions League - Played for a Belgium team in the group stage who got 1 point. WOW
4. Played in the EPL for us. Did ok, without looking particularly impressive.
5. You think the above makes him a star Championship player when his performances on the pitch, when he's on the pitch, have been far from impressive.

John Swift, on the other hand, was in every Championship team of the season last season.

You are literally rating a player on reputation, not performance.
Well said sire

I get that players can go off the boil for periods and have poor games. But I can't believe that a player would deliberately be uninterested and adopt a poor attitude, especially a first choice midfielder in a team battling for promotion to the biggest league in the world. Why would he simply down tools and decide that he can't be arsed?

He's lost some of his early season form and is playing out of position. But he'll be wanting to win games as much as any other player.

If you look at our big money signings for the first PL year , what a mediocre return we've had , in terms of time out injured , lack of form and lack of progress , leading to various diminutions in value.
Mousset , McBurnie , Brewster & Berge.
Would it be too much for one of these to stay mainly fit & develop into a better player than when they arrived 3 years ago ?
Our return from £70m in fees , to say nothing of wages , has been very poor.
I'll go so far as to say the return on this expenditure has left us in the present predicament where failing to achieve promotion leaves us up the financial creek.
If we get promoted in May , I sincerely hope the Club has learned from 2019 , does much better due diligence on transfers and spends much more wisely.

Good shout - not many on here would guess this time last year that McB would turn out to be the best of those four.

However, all being well, it will be a different Exec Team in charge for next season but they would still do well to review the key learnings from the previous promotion and subsequent relegation from those at the club that were around - especially Bettis and Mitchell

All four get injured every season aswell.

He played well at QPR last season when he looked as though he thought he had something to prove, but unfortunately that appears to be it.
annoying as he has so much ability both skill and physical but he always plays as though he needs a bomb up his ass, almost as though it is all beneath him

There's a nicely written article about TH in the Pinch today Norwood's 6 iron.
Interesting read, although I don't remember the bit about Hockey knocking the ball out of the goalies hands against Millwall.
There's not many players, having spent such a short time at the club, that built such a reputation.
It was perhaps down to the partnership he had with TC, they were complete opposites. One all silky skills and class, the other sheer grit and determination.
Only TC would be able to confirm as to how important Hockey was in winning promotion.

What a load of tripe.

To be fair, we're 11 points clear of third place, it's not clear we've got that much of a problem.
Possibly not, but it is midfield that Hecky keeps tinkering with as if he is not entirely happy.
I might be wrong and perhaps he changes it depending on who we play and whether we can play a more attacking game.
Assuming we keep Berge and McAtee & Doyle return to City I would still like to sign a ball winner in midfield. Perhaps we could get Declan Rice on the cheap when W. Ham get relegated.

Crikey - unless a daft offer is received he'll be going nowhere so it would perhaps be best to get behind the lad to help him rediscover his best form, rather than all the above criticism and writing-off. He didn't set his transfer fee when he joined Utd and he could easily have got the @rse before now to force a move away.

Most of this thread/forum is tripe.
He’s just out of form. Same people who were slagging off mcburnie and now rimming him have just reset there sights on Berge.

Lads played in the champions league, europa, and one of Norways biggest talents yet some how he’s not up to our standards (playing against luton, rotherham and blackpool) and its because he has no talent instead of form or how we are playing at the moment.

The reason he gets so much stick is that the majority of the fan base are disappointed that he does not make the best of his undoubted ability. He is getting like Moose.
Really? Like Moose? On minutes played alone he is streets ahead of Moose. Attitude is so much better, the only way they are alike is that they do not make the best of their talents, Berge a little and Moose many many times more.
A poor comparison in my book.
