Fair play. Can't say I'm bothered if honest. Good pro, top attitude but he's injury prone and I don't think he's a huge loss. I hate saying that in a way because as I say he's a top pro but I don't think in his time with us he's really ever established himself as a first choice.

Not sure he was ever signed to be first choice.

That's a fair point but even as a squad player he's just average.
You could argue he’s paid back his value based on the number of appearances but you’d also question whether we should have been paying any fee for a limited trier.

For a team which now seems to be fixed on frees, loans and small fees, 3-4m for a Jack-of-all-trades but master of none seems suddenly excessive.

His memorable moments are difficult to pick. He had a great game vs Peterborough, played well to the back end of that same season, filling in at right back and was always a game trier.

I’m reluctant to criticise as he always give his best and didn’t hide and I appreciated that as a fan.

He was a useful Championship Swiss Army Knife of a footballer but lacking the quality, especially given his physical limitations against Premiership peers, to ever nail down a top flight career.

Ok to have around on cheap wages, any more than cheap and it’s too much.

Gives us versatility though and we need to sign and pay someone to do the multiple jobs he’s capable of doing at a 6/10 level most games.

Meh.

We bought/signed a lot of squad fillers in the Wilder Prem years…yet we bought/signed no one who actually improved the first team. That was always a bit of a risk.
(Even Sander Berge, the player we bought with big money (for us), turned out to be not much better than a squad filler.)
So it goes.

Agree with your sentiments, especially re the PL, but given our financial predicament I think we will miss him in the championship. He covered a lot of positions competently despite never locking one down and we are now without our 2 most versatile players of the last decade.

The left hand side of the pitch has been dessimated with Lowe, Larucci, McAtee and Osborn all gone. Our only experienced left sided player is RND and he has guitar string hamstrings! I know both Robbo and Trusty play left CB but at full back or wing back they get roasted so we are 2 left sided players short minimum

Osborn did exactly what he was supposed to do. Filled in when required in a number of positions. I've no idea how many appearances he made in the end, but I'd think it was pretty substantial and he was always steady enough.
A very decent lad as well, which can't be underestimated as a squad player. Easily returned on his transfer fee.

Ultimately though, with the volume of injuries he was starting to pick up, I think it was the right time to let him go.
Without them, it would have been a no brainer keeping him on as he's a decent level for a back-up player.

Makes me wonder if this whole thing about his contract might have something to do with Derby getting promoted as well as our takeover.

He's what, 28/29 now and might see this as the right time to go and play for Derby.

Just a theory, would be interested to hear what people think.

Nixon just posted he’s off to Derby. Clutching here but hoping this means the takeover is closer again and we’ve let him go as a result

Would rather have Osborn than Shackleton
Different side aren’t they?

Or we’ve secured Burrows and McCallum and therefore Ben is sadly no longer required as we’ve replaced him with younger players for the future.

Yes but same bustling utility squad player who isn’t good enough to start. If Shackleton starts more than 10 games we’re in bother.
Agree, and I serious doubt that he would.
Do you think he’s coming in as a first team starter?

Or because it’s further away?

Derby County are set to sign Ben Osborn when his contract at Sheffield United expires at the end of the month. Osborn, who also had interest from Watford, could've stayed at Sheffield United if the potential takeover was completed sooner.

No it’s ok, I’d rather believe the below version, cheers though 😅

Sounds like speculation just to add a bit more to his tweet.

Regardless of takeover I would have been surprised if Osborn hadn't been considering leaving us and joining Derby for weeks, the news about him rejecting the contract broke weeks ago.

So we can apparently get these other lads over the line but not osborn?

For those of us having negative things to say about Ndiaye not signing a contract when it all seemed done, I’d imagine Ben Osborn can look on the club in a similar light.

You’d have understood it was done and dusted based on some of Wilder’s pressers.

Now he has no deal and is having to sign for Derby.

So it cuts both ways.

Will work out well for him. Isn’t he actually a Derby lad? He’s got it had a pub down there hadn’t he?

Osborn going in my opinion is fuck all to do with the alleged takeover, seems we're getting players in what are better 🙏 not bothered about him going. Been a decent servant even though apart from him being a run around sue not sure like a lot of them what he brought to the team, wish him well though 👍

Best thing you can say about when a player leaves is will he get a round of applause when he comes back in an opposing team, in Ben's case yes he will. He has always been 100% commited, not been any trouble apart from falling off his mate's shoulders (who hasn't done daft stuff pissed up). Generally been a good pro, playing wherever asked. Wish him luck
