Yep. It was hinted at by Wilder in his prematch interview when he was asked about the 4 he’d previously said as heading out on loan. He basically said that it might be three because we need to ensure we’ve covered all scenarios in the squad that might develop – given the cover elsewhere that suggested BH given CCV had left. It’s sort of like a year ago when Wilder didn’t want Reed heading out on loan in case injuries developed in midfield.

Good point, he’s played for Motherwell as well and you can’t play for 3 clubs in one season. Looks like he will be kept in the fold.

I thought he did ok considering he’d never played at that level. He is decent in the air (which you’d expect given his height) and he made a few good tackles. He was a bit wayward with a few passes, knocking them out of play, but the biggest weakness I saw was a lack of pace. He was easily beaten for pace tbh and that may be something that he can work on as he adjusts to a different tempo of football to what he’s been used to. But I wouldn’t depend on him in the first team as yet based on what I saw.

IMO it would be the correct decision to keep him here now CCV has gone back to spurs.

Having just 4 specialist centre halves here for 3 positions leaves little room for error in suspensions and injuries, and for me even if leonard can play there we look light without him. I suspect he's going to at least get on the bench occasionally between now and the end of the season.

Did OK in defensive situations but looked nervous when on the ball,so it was good to get his debut out of the way.
Wilder has said he's got the tools to be a good centre back,he needs to kick on now.
Not really ready for the first tea. Yet,yesterday will do his confidence a world of good.

Unless CW was actively looking to bring in another centre half (difficult to sell the 'you're coming in to be cover only' argument to potential loanees or their clubs) then I'm glad that we have been a little selfish and kept the lad for the duration on the season as cover for injuries.

I think it also comes with the benefit of having the lad involved in first team training, we get to work on his physicality and conditioning such as bulking him up and trying to add an extra yard of pace to his game. Hopefully we can then look to take stock again in the summer and either earmark him down as a potential first team player or we move him out on loan. I think CW will probably do the latter and would see a season long loan out to a decent division 1 side for the season as being beneficial to all parties.

The lads got potential but he's a work in progress only at this time. Given time, he could be our Aden Flint and save us a shite load of money. Hes only a young lad too.

At this stage he's still raw.
A big unit and definitely bulked up, however, like a lot of really big guys, he didn't seem to "jump his height", being beaten a couple of times by much smaller opponents.
I thought he was reasonably composed on the ball but as someone stated, got done on pace a couple of times.
However, a reasonable debut without being anywhere near outstanding.
Definitely needs more work before he can be "trusted".

This was alluded to by Wilder, but RCB isn’t really his ideal position – his squad role had been originally intended to be as an option in the middle of the three. Clearly visible in the deadline day Bleacher Report video. His lack of pace may be less exposed in the future in the middle, though realistically he’s third choice for that role.

It's not the worst thing for him to stay here.

We can closely work on his conditioning, and he also has 4 very good guys to learn from with O'Connell, Stearman, Wright and Basham.

Maybe what he lacks a bit is aggression and toughness and Basham and O'Connell set a great example in that department.

Then Stearman and Wright are more the anticipating, thinking types with huge experience between them who'd be good mentors for any young defender.

It was the same at Ipswich. Wright’s a safe pair of hands in that position defensively, but if JOC is out with injury/suspension we’re never going to see Wright replace that contribution further up the pitch.

Completely agree.

After a garbage first half a decent game of football broke out after the substitutions.

As others have said Heneghan looked decent and did nothing noticeably wrong but, with both him and Wright in the team it did stifle our attacking threat.

As I said on the match thread, he did nothing wrong, but he was not racing forward into their half, like Bash was when he came on. He looks a proper "big lad" though, and very capable as a championship defender, if you just need someone to "defend".

Wilder did say that pushing forward isn’t really his game and that he was probably played out of position slightly by being on the right and not in the centre.

On the topic of his pace, he's no slower the Maguire or Wright. Reading play well and defending as a unit can easily cover his slowness on the turn.
