People have told me things about the bloke’s situation. I don’t know if they’re true and I’m not going to pass them on as if I know something when it’s hearsay. But given the evidence of our eyes we can see all is not well.

He’s 27, has represented his country, and should be at his footballing peak right now. It’s just a sad thing.

Anyone with half a brain could see that he's a once-promising player whose ability - for whatever reason - has been in freefall since Covid, that's multiple years of being increasingly shite.

It would make sense that the manager is the one who takes ownership of loan players. Its not like the club is investing in an asset, surely its I want some people in these positions to play now, heres some names I like (maybe scout suggests some too) and then then Bettis brings to the table the players we can get and the manager goes yes or no.
 
I'm not saying Selles wasn't involved but Bettis in true fashion distances himself as far away as possible after the fact

Barry didn't even do anything for him

The Godfrey thing is just unbelievable. Imagine having a fortune to spend on a loanee's wages, and picking him..... and to play out of position

At least those players have been somewhat involved other than Matos who feels more like a data led type signing tbh
 
Why was he not playing or even in the match squad he played for the u21 most weeks ? was it a pay as you play deal or linked somehow to game related payments

20 years old and two half season loans is certainly more along than some but I'd still put him in the "prospect" type signing age range.

It's interesting he's been left on 4 appearances, so I'm wondering if payments are triggered at 5?

They also weren’t on 70k pw. Fuck knows how much of that we committed to. I do remember at the time that we were paying a considerable amount!

I’d be very reluctant to listen to the opinion of someone financially incentivised to back the version of events that suits the current management team.

Why would we need an AI system to identify a player that’s been in England his whole career and played against us last season?

Caceres, Ukaki, Nwachukwu & possibly Zatterstrom are the only ones AI were used for. The rest came from the usual club channels of players/agents someone at the club already knows

I think it was before Wilder came back. I assume it would be a case of looking at the dreaded “underlying numbers” and recommending him based on that?

Yeah I remember reading about that too.
The stats were analysed by AI or something along those lines only problem was its the same AI that said Wednesday would stay in the Championship this season.

The AI fad is just a joke. ChatGPT, CoPIlot and some other AI took on an Atari VCS 2600 at Atari chess and they all lost.
Pretty good at making pictures out of stuff they have scanned the internet for but when it comes to beating a 6507 CPU from 1975 massive fail.

Fully agree with you about AI.

I was prepared to give the AI-based recruitment stuff a chance because we do need to modernize our scouting and it could've been a step in that direction. But it has clearly been a total disaster.
 
This thread (like most) is all over the shop..
So is Godfrey gay? Retiring? Refusing to play? Or all 3?
