Baxter

We don't know what happened so there's no point in speculating. I only hope that it's not as serious as some are implying and any problems are sorted out quickly. He's our best player at the moment, most likely to make a goalscoring chance out of nothing. If it's a scrap with a teammate it will hopefully be dealt with.

Lets just fuck Baxter off then, the only midfielder who scores and assists, it's fucking incredible at times on here. We have midfielders who do fuck all yet Baxter who actually does something always gets tarnished the bad guy out of the lot of them, baffling.

This, a thousand times this.

It for some reason became message board groupthink for it to be acceptable for our midfielders to be one dimensional (I think this grew out of people defending Monty, fwiw, but nothing turns on it). This is in my eyes a ridiculous position. Just about every week we are faced with midfielders who have both attacking and defensive qualities. These players do exist and it is very poor squad management that we don't have any such players.

That said, looking at what we have, For a midfielder Baxter is doing the attacking side well - he gets goals and assists. Nobody else does this regularly in our central midfield. But they are not defending either - look at the goals that have been scored when people run through us, or the ball is half cleared and not picked up.

Basham has his uses but the likes of Hammond, Coutts, Reed and Scougall are verging on no dimensional, not one dimensional. Half hearted defending and couple of assists a season is not good enough.

He played in 3 matches and didn't finish one which makes his performance on sat amazing.
If true about the bust up at half time (re-shrews)that's the kind of passion we want more of it please, players dont have to be best of pals
Just give it their best shot and if a player or two are not giving everything then calling them out will bring a response and that's good.Bring it on.
he played the last 90 mins of the last one

The other way of looking at it is maybe we are where we are because we are accommodating him. Don't look at it as a personal or individual situation but more of a team one.
Agree to a certain extent so Adkins has to find his best position and keep him there. Every team needs midfielders to contribute to the goals and assists charts otherwise you will find yourself languishing in the bottom half or even worse still the relegation zone, so whilst we have this squad of midfielders Baxter is a definite starter for me, at least untill we sort the squad out.

We've struggled to fit him into any formation since he signed. I think the only positions he can successfully play in this league, with our players, is just behind a single striker or a free role in a 5 man midfield.

He simply offers nothing defensively and we aren't good enough to carry him.
Agree with your first paragraph completely.

He's not in the team to do the defensive work, although I have seen him clear the ball of the line superbly on a couple of occasions so he does put the effort in.

Yes Baxter was at Barnsley, the team apparently went to Ireland after for there Christmas do and it sounds like where this incident occurred

Somebody's hard on has broken out of thier fly online, not saying where cause take it as bullshit because I am at the moment...

Rumour of a drunken glassing of an Accrington Stanley (who) player perpetrated by you know who.. Would mean he's a goner wouldn't it.. If true, which I don't have any reason to believe it is at present... Just cyber posturing isn't it??

On Saturday ,we created far more chances than usual and were much more fluid. Hammond and Basham have both scored in the last 2 games.

Whilst I too don't believe drawing away at the bottom team in the League is the start of some sort of yellow brick road - dropping someone who does score goals to accomodate people who might - , it would be nice if NA could maybe stick with it for half a dozen games so we can have definitive proof one way or the other.

Either way I agree but with injuries and naughtiness I might not be possible.

Apparently he had a go at the whole team at half time against Shrewsbury, one of the other players reacted, Adkins had to step in and it escalated further, and it also kicked off on the team bus setting off to Barnsley which resulted in him not travelling.

If this is indeed true I am 100% on Baxter's side. Unlike the rest he's got balls, and is not a loser. If he cares enough to put his neck on the line and question the rest of them like that, coupled with his apparent better application this season and improved consistency, then he's the last one who should be frozen out, I don't care how much he might have hurt the feelings of some of the little boys in our squad. He's one of very few who we should retain so there's no way we should get rid to keep players happy who have no future here.

This this and thrice this.

He is one of the 3 players id give a fuck if we sold along with Che and Wallace. Our 3 players of the year, 2 were playing for Ilkeston last season... Embarrassing on our part.

They all have shown they care and have some talent. Wallace should be playing every week for me he's a good footballer who can have a positive impact on games much like Jose.

Hopefully these rumours are just that, and nothing in them...if there was a bust up in the dressing room though,I'm not that worried, sometimes things need to be said and it can help clear the air..although Adkins did say he had an injury...Apart from all that,we have to find a place for him for me,he's been our most creative player and is a real goal threat when he gets in and around the box.

If they continue to do it a bit more and results improve then that's hunkydory. The only problem is there isn't really any evidence that this will happen, I really hope so but i just can't see it sitters.

I'd disagree completely. He needs to man up and start taking things on the chin, hold his hands up and lead us.

I'm not saying that he's Captain Fantastic but at least he gives a toss, which is more than the rest. I'm close enough to the pitch to hear what is said and it's very little other than him.

He would have chivved him too if Spud hadn't stopped him.

Were we that fluid though?..I didn't go,working again, but watching it back we seemed to lose possession quite a lot,and tended to play longer balls in behind Barnsley, although we did make some chances from them along with set pieces....maybe if Baxter was in the side we would have created more from positions in the final third, who knows, and what happens when a team sits deeper than Barnsley did and we can't play those type of balls in behind.

Just texted a friend whose son plays for Accrington Stanley. The players went over to Dublin after the 5-1 win at York but my friend doesnt know about anyone being glassed. My friend will try to find out. Hope it isnt serious

If it all kicked off between the Blades and Accrington Stanley on O' Connel St there'd be something in the news by now. Sounds like the rumours are making this worse and it could be time for the club to issue a statement. If anyone has been charged with affray or assault they will be innocent until proven otherwise.

Yes, and we need to remember we have a few naughty neighbours who love to shit stir....

One thing is for certain, Baxter is a player who we can't afford to lose, you can count them on one hand, and he's the first I name that I'm happy with when going on about who we should keep...

Not read all the thread but Baxter was clearly injured before he set up Sammon's goal on Tuesday.

(Everyone involved is lucky he didn't connect with his flying two-footed lunge for their third.)

No surprise he didn't play Satdi.

He was at the game though.

I think he's a transformed man under Adkins: fitter, faster (it's all relative), playing with passion. Sporadic brainlessness still evident though.

It's possibly because Barnsley are the worst team we have played this season. On the other hand it's quite possible we would have won the game with Jose playing and his attacking threat, which is far greater than the three who played sat. Bash scored yes but both he and Coutts missed glorious chances to seal it

Keep an eye on the papers tomorrow - a couple have picked up on the Baxter story and are running with it.

I'm told he's dropped himself in it again

So that's all the score against your old club equity down the shitter for the weekend.

On that note, are we letting Higdon play for them?
