Couldn't get to the game as I took the wife and kids to sunny California.

Can anyone tell me if 1) Baxter's injury is a knock, or something more serious?

2) Were we better with him, or without? Clearly we have a player that is gifted, but also a player that needs the others to do some of his running for him.

I know the scorline suggests better without, but it seems that we were controlling midfield with and without.

Just wondered what you all thought.

Sunny Calafornia, cling, clank, Ching, can someone pick that name up that's just been dropped?

Sunny Calafornia, is that out nr Crystal Peaks

Oh, I didn't go to have no idea, sounded on the radio like he'd pulled something rather than a knock.

Sounded very controlled with him and without him. Seemed a very together team performance from the commentary. It would be nice if that was how it looked from someone who was there. It would indicate we have the strength and the consistency is coming.

some people like Scougal and Baxter.
some people think we are a better side with only one of them in the team at once.
some people may think we ARE actually a better team without either of them.

food for thought................

So what did we do today? Played a back 4 and 3 defensive minded players in Doyle, Coutts and Basham and absolutely dominated the top team of the season on their own patch.

Baxter went off...............easy win in the end.

Interesting as to how NC sees all this - bet it's virtually the same team and same formation v Notts C.

Yes a defensive midfield if need be, but Coutts plays in tandem with Brayford who will overlap him more often than not. On the other flank there is Murphy doing his stuff with Harris going with him from time to time.. Basham is capable of playing box to box and has stamina and is willing, but a little circumspect with the ball as yet.

Complementing them, whether it is Baxter, Scougall or Reid, or indeed Holt as yesterday, it is a vital role to supplement midfield and to support the striker at every opportunity. In due course maybe Holt or Wallace (J) will replace Doyle against the lesser sides. Looks like this coming period when Clough tries again to establish Basham in midfield and the opportunity arises because Kennedy has excelled. Maybe McEveley needs to get his previous standards back though. I thought he and Harris allowed that sloppy first goal yesterday.

Coutts is a key player who keeps possession wonderfully and more importantly plays the right ball at the right time, even if it is to Brayford most of the time. Francis at Bournemouth runs beyond his wide midfielder every time he gets the ball. I see Brayford doing that as a matter of course.

Doesn't life look sunnier when we have a striker contributing both goals and movement.
