Basham is the epitome of us

Should get that on a t shirt!

I remember the talks about whether he was a full back, a centre back, or a midfielder, and thinking he had that classic utility player problem of not being quite good enough to play any of them convincingly.

Has this amazing ability to run round three players without ever looking like he's remotely in control of the ball. If I didn't see him do it every week I'd think it was dumb luck.

He's another one of those players that Wilder figured out quickly how to make the most of. Instead of a utility player he now looks like he was custom made for the role of attacking centre half, a position I didn't know existed until Wilder.

Tufty is the antithesis of Junior Computer Manager. ACMs, DCMs AWMs, OBEs, STDs and all the other abbreviated bollocks ‘does his head in’.

Footballers. Talent. Intelligence. Athleticism. Organisation. Flexibility.

Tuftyball.

After years of reading this forum, finally felt my time is up and needed to post. I’m in my 30s but have never felt younger when it comes to supporting this club. I wake up in the morning and google ‘Sheffield United”. I watch re-runs of Blades games on YouTube when I feel slightly down. We’ve been in a higher league in the time I’ve been supporting, however nothing comes close to this.

We have a rag tag bunch of personalities. A future star in goal, no nonsense-make-great-decisions defenders in Egan and O’Connell. Wing backs that bring so much energy and skill. Norwood runs the operation, Fleck dives it and Duffy orchestrates. McGoldrick brings style and class and Billy makes you feel fortunate that he grew up following our team.

But the one man that personifies it all is Basham. A one man wrecking mission that’s one part genius, one part octopus, final part disaster waiting-to-happen and 100% Sheffield United. He’s not perfect, we’re not perfect but Jesus, he’s a huge part of our identity.

Wilder will deservedly be remembered for generations but it’s folk like Bash that separate us from the footballing elite, and reminds us of what football is really about.
Thank goodness for the typo with regard to Fleck, otherwise the “best 1st post” award could of been yours.
Just a tip, we prefer negative posts, slagging off owners, management and players, especially this close to the end of the transfer window :-)

What a post that is!
Read this out pre game Mr Wilder....remind those lads what it means to us and how their efforts are appreciated and realised by us...for us.

I liked Monty too - he was effective when we had numerous "ball" players around him.
When he had to be a main man and Micky Adams signed Doyle to play at the side of him - relegation was just a formality that season.
Wait while pinchy gets hold of your post !

Exactly, he was limited as a total footballer but always gave it everything, and somethings he did very well and that allows others to play with the ball.

Oh, and he scored at Elland Road when we won 4-0 there :)

Think it’s fair to say that a cult hero emerges from every good era. So far this season Bash, Henderson and Sharp all have a legit claim on that. Even if we don’t go up this year, I’m sure that it’s only a matter of time (as long as Wilder hangs around). Not particularly bothered about the Premier League though, what matters is enjoying each match and looking forward to the next one knowing we’ve got a great chance of winning.

Thanks for the positive comments, it’s a nerve wracking experience posting on here knowing you might get torn to pieces.

The Premier League is a dreadful creation, born of self-interest and greed.

However, in professional sport, if you don’t aspire to the highest level, you may as well stay home. Not bothering about the Premier League is not an option, for all its many flaws.

Ah, towd bash. Looks like Bambi on ice but somehow beats his man. He's here there and everywhere and probably has more involvement on a match day than any other player.

I’ve heard he puts the shirts out and wallpapers pink-painted dressing-rooms.

I reckon many have scored at Elland Road - most in the toilet blocks :D

This statement perfect description of Bash !!!
Will go down as one of my all time favourite players

There are two sides to Chris Basham. Tonight he was ticking time bomb. He was lucky not to get pulled for 2 penalties where he was clearly fouling in the box and when he was pushed into midfield he was full-on headless chicken mode.

He's great with his commitment and drive but I wish he also had more composure.
