Great news. Would have been so sad if this had been the end of the road. Definitely got another season or two in him.

I would assume more than any new signings would get, given we've made a public commitment to cut the wage bill.

You’re assuming this new deal doesn’t also come with a wage cut for Basham

So you don't know and jumped to a conclusion, based on your own fiction, that Bash is a gamble signing.

For what it's worth - even if you guessed right (and reality would suggest otherwise), his commitment, presence and performances for the club warrants a pay rise. No sincere Unitedite would begrudge that to Bash.

A proper United legend. Deserves this contract, still got plenty to offer.

Another one of our ‘mediocre’ ‘under the radar’ signings that has come good we tend to be good at these unlike our millions of quid ones (didsy being another successful cheapy) well done Bash you’ve deserved your contract extension.

Not impossible Bash passes Monty. I think it unlikely Bill will, sadly.

The ironic think is, everybody (don’t lie) had a Basham replacement in the back of their mind since he arrived, he’s seen off all comers and as we have eventually found that replacement in Anel…I would always find a role for Bash.

Thought he was great against Preston - although they were awful .

Deffo has a role with us imo

I do wonder if Billy will try and reach the 350 mark... it's a huge task though let's face it, even if he stays in the PL, started every game in pre season, and the rest of this season's fixtures

Billy should go out into the world and learn his trade as a manager/coach. You never know…We might need him again some day.

How the fuck anybody hopes / wants to see Fleck, Billy, Enda, Bash & Norwood in our squad next season is beyond me.

Hecky "I want to keep them all!" 🙈

Hopefully he's saying that only in the public domain and something quite different behind the scenes.

Possibly explained by the transitional times for the club but there’s a glaring gap covering the ‘80s and ‘90s in the list above.

Simon Tracey is just behind Sharp - he played 332 league games and would be 21st.

Of that vintage, Tony Kenworthy, Paul Stancliffe, Paul Garner and Keith Edwards all played over 250 league games, but no one made 300 save Tracey.

Harry Johnson 22nd?

And at the time of Monty everybody thought Monty was one of the least productive players that ever wore a Blades shirt, Soeza reminds me of Monty, sitting in front of the defence, just behind midfield breaking up play and getting us moving forward again, his role was undervalued by many supporters, as is Souzas role

Slight digression but it's interesting to note how many of the side from the Wilder years have had the most appearances in their careers with the Blades.

Kieron Freeman 111 (and weirdly seems unable to get a game elsewhere after leaving)
George Baldock 196 and counting
Enda Stevens 192
John Egan 208 and counting
Chris Basham 344 and counting?
Jack O'Connell 166
Ollie Norwood 187 and counting
John Fleck 252 and counting
Paul Coutts 124
Mark Duffy 111
Billy Sharp 335
Oliver McBurnie 130 and counting

Even Leon Clarke played more for us than any other of his numerous clubs with 88

Didzy only 6 away from that list as well. Henderson has made 82 of his 167 senior appearances with us - the others split between 5 clubs.

What's pleasing is that all these players were pretty much playing at their peak levels.
