Not really, these are final (attacking) third stats a place many defenders don't go. Great to be top of the lists but remember the context.

The way i read it, only the third one, "Possession won in Attacking Third" is an Attacking Third stat, the others are all over the pitch, otherwise how could he have made 80 "clearances" in the attacking third? And why would it say "... in the attacking third" in the table for the third stat only and not the others?

Which if true really pisses me off. Sort it out Bash FFS. Only ranked SECOND for headed clearances? Gerrim sold.
 
Yeah you're right I thought 61 tackles was low but I suppose it's quite rare to tackle, more jockeying and trying to force errors.
 



Constantly plays to the maximum of his ability, done it that often that it has become normal, he now is that top player. Loves it here, it shows
 
Such an under appreciated player, especially by neutrals. (I think we Blades do actually, properly, appreciate him now)

People talk about him being 'limited', but I'm not even sure that's true.

There are so many players who are considered to have high technical ability who never run with the ball or take it past players, because they don't have the balls to take the risk.
If you ask me, that's limited, because they lack that skill, no matter how highly their technical level is rated.

Bash, however, does this consistently and it's fucking incredible, he's a CB for crying out loud, and he's there, doing everything he's supposed to do exceptionally well, but also gliding past players in midfield, putting in crosses and getting assists into the bargain.

He's an exceptional engine and I hope it never runs out.
 
I think people’s opinion on Basham (including mine) is that he’s so unorthodox in his technique. It looks like he has no idea what he’s doing with the ball (looks like he’s lost control 4/5x) but he skips past people regularly.

I remember away at Tottenham thinking oh no it’s Basham with a last ditch tackle on Son! Then he wins the ball cleanly. That’s why I realised he just has a strange technique that looks even stranger but is unbelievably good.
 
And here's me saying at the beginning of the season we need to move Bash, Billy and Lundy on. :rolleyes:
 
Those aren't micky mouse stats either. Remarkable stuff. I can't believe how good he's actually been this season. We've had so many outstanding candidates for player of the season. I think Dean Henderson just edges John Fleck for me, with Chris Basham in third.

He's one of those players who has that look of clumsiness about him even when he goes past two or three players, where you think if you didn't see him do it so often you'd put it down to luck.

But then he does things like this



That first touch is unreal.

Yeah, the strikers were demanding he square it but as far as I'm concerned after that touch he'd earned the right to have a go himself!

I can’t agree with that. He didn’t get himself into a good goal scoring position. To score from where he was would be a fantastic effort, a ‘how did he do that?’ moment. Just doing a bit of skill doesn’t give you the right to shoot. He should’ve squared it, we play as a team. I bet he’d agree with me.

Well, sure, if you're thinking about it logically.
As an emotional Blade who dreams of scoring for my team, I put myself in his position and imagine hitting a screamer into the top corner before taking my shirt off and jumping into the kop ..so that may have influenced my thinking on that one ;)

I’m not saying I wouldn’t have done it if I’d been in his position. (But if I had, I’d have buried it).

Wow, forgot how many chances we had in the first half. Could have had 5 or 6 easily!

That’s not a bad shout. Dean’s got a stellar future in front of him so I think I’d swop Dean and Bash. So Bash it is with Fleck runner up
