Chaps,

Can't get excited about Porter re-signing. Am surprised it took him so long, probably went sniffing but realised no other bugger would take him.

Good on him, if he wants to be proud to wear our shirt and give his best to us, then I'm all for it..

Happy he's signed but had hoped it was only for a year. Would be rendered useless if we got promoted.

Damned if he signs damned if he leaves. You wonder with the gibberings of our fans why players aren't forming an orderly queue to sign on.

Good on him. Given the support he will be fine. Solid team player if unspectacular. Unfortunately our last spectacular player is doing a stint at her majesties pleasure. Leaves our options a bit short. Our other spectacular player from last season was a spectacular flop. So ill take steady eddie thank you.

Well done Chris, heres hoping you stick it down some throats next season. And not in a ched type way. that wouldnt be considered good form.

i wish him the best and i truly hope he does well, but i dont think he's good enough to play for us. he's strong, but thats it. he's slow in thought, slow on his feet, finishing leaves a lot to be desired and i hardly see him breaking the 15 barrier, which is what any striker playing for us every week (in this league) should do fairly easily if theyre good enough.

he's like Monty, works hard but not good enough, IMHO obviously.

*adourns tin hat

I'll take Porter in the squad providing this doesn't deter us from bringing in at least 2 more. I think Porter can do a job at this level but would need a pacey partner. Him, Cressy and two more would be enough. May even just sign they one and take a risk from Academy and Reserves?! Are any of those lads ready/rated?

Great a 2 year deal for someone that doesnt do much and was a sub for most of the season.

Respect for his goal against Stevenage but a 2 year deal seriously what the fuck!!

thats certainly how i see it. thanks for getting us to Wembley and all, but Lowton's cross was so good im pretty sure i would have scored from there.

I for one am happy he's signed. I still think he'll bag a few this season given the chance.

Get him a decent strike partner and we could be rocking and rolling.

Come on now McDonald and Willo, follow suit.

Would you have won pretty much every other ball in the air like he did as well?

I still think if we'd brought him on a lot earlier in the final, or even started with him, we'd have had a better chance of actually winning.

Are u a pig? Serious question.
V serious question. Do u rate him? 'Cos if u do, that's how far standards have fallen. Shocking footballer. Bigger version of Monty. No pace, no skill, he makes Henderson look good, and he was crap! Was on the bench for most of last season, when he played, got subbed regularly. Things must if be bad if we have to keep the likes of Porter!

No i wouldnt, but then i didnt claim that did i. the point we were making was not to fawn over 1 goal he scored from inside the 6 yard box and let it blind us as to the rest of his game, which isnt up to much. im not saying im better than him, im saying 1 of his redeeming moments could have been achieved by anyone and there havent been many others.

i just think we've signed him out of desperation.

We have signed him out of desperation, we're very desperate, but we could do a lot worse at our level in my opinion.

I think he'll score a few, we just need to make sure he isn't our main goal threat.

Can't get excited about this, but it is reflective of where we are. As we have Philskirk and Cressy on the books at the moment, then there is a strong arugment that Porter is better than what we have (the ultimate rule for signing players). I just hope it does not deter Wilson from brining in another 2 strikers (preferably with pace).

If Porter can stay fit and gets a run in the team then I think he will score goals. I do not rate him, but he scored 20+ for Oldham at this level before. He is slow and not particularly skillfull. However he is strong, decent in the air and leads the line quite well. In the last few games he showed some passion and commitment. He was our main threat against Stevenage, came on and nearly scored at Exeter and looked more likely to score in 10 mins at Wembley than Cressy did all match.

Completely uninspiring yes. But what are to we expect? We're broke and we need to decrease the wage bill. Let's give him a chance. Weren't there massive questions marks over Ched at this time last year?

No, I don't. I've posted elsewhere that he's a supporting striker at best & if we don't sign someone decent to spearhead our attack we have no chance of promotion. Ched carried our attack last season - without him we have very little goal threat.

It's just that all your posts seem to be negative and are written in a "I've come on here to take the p!ss" style.

His strength in the air was something that we didn't really discover before the last few games, I certainly didn't realise he was that strong. If McDonald and Williamson don't sign for us we may not be able to outplay teams like we did quite often last season, and may have to look to get more crosses in. I think Porter can prove useful and I'm glad that he's signed. You are right about him needing a mobile goalscorer alongside him though.

I'm just saying what some others have said really, but if Porter is not used as our main goal threat then he is a good player at this level.

He needs a pacey goalscorer up front with him, so he can take the hammer. That way, opposition defenders have two very different threats to worry about. Porter wins more than his fair share in the air and with a good run of games towards the end of the season he grew in confidence and his performances showed that.

If we can bring in a winger or two, and a couple of strikers to compliment the likes of Porter and Cresswell, we'll be in a good position to make a promotion push.

OK Reality check time. Henderson was getting paid 20k per week and scored fairly frequently at championship level so yes, he would make Henderson look good. Your comments show how truly deluded you must be if you think we can have or afford someone of Hendersons quality any longer. Porter is probably on about a quarter of what Henderson was on.

Pleased with him signing on, not least as it may give Willo/KMac some encouragement to follow suit. They should see us keeping the majority of last year's squad together as a positive, and may persuade them to stay.

I've explained what I feel he offers on the pitch before. Pretty sure most are agreed he does need another (quicker) striker alongside him but providing he stays fit and gets the nod over Cressy I can see him bagging 15 next year

I can't say I'm thrilled guys but as it stands he is the best striker at the club. We still need 2 more with pace and power.

In a years time when Porter has managed about 8 or 9 goals in a full season this contract will be described as one that is "crippling" the club. Bet on it.

I assume we've learned our lesson and given him a contract that suits the division he plays in. If we get relegated and we've forgotten a relegation wage drop clause again, your prediction may come true.

assumptions are the mother of all disasters bergen:)
seriously though.. i think he might surprise a few actually
