thought it deserved a thread of its own

When it comes to backing in January we should have the following left from August

- the money we bid for Coady
- the money we bid for Leonard
- the money we bid for Leinighan
- the money we would have spent on the loan signings that we didn’t get
- any money the board were going to allow Wilder in January in any event.

You don't get anywhere by spunkin moneh

That presumes the plan was to get them all, were some of the planned loans because we didn't get permanents?

Given that our current standing in the division is different to what was expected in August, I'd imagine that the targets in January are now different.

Plus the money from two televised home games in the Championship which amounts to around £500k these days.

I expect us to spend £1 - £2 million on three players. Plus a loan or two.

That assumes each bit of money was different money, wasn't spent on the loan signings we did get and doesn't account for the money we've spent on Hanson's wages since he stayed when we couldn't get Cole. Also we bought a set of bloody awful white shirts that we've never actually needed to wear and had bad luck in whenever we have.

We won't buy any genuine first XI'ers in the JTW.

Not as a criticism of the Board or CW or anything, but it's very rare in football for teams to splash out on big signings in January; the biggest reason being that selling teams don't want to let players go mid-way through the season. The biggest types of deals in JTW are loan signings, we could get some cover in, but anyone putting all their eggs in the JTW basket is barking up the wrong alley in my view.

They still haven't spent the money I gave when buying the hotdog before the Brentford game either.

Agreed, the quality of any loan signings will be crucial in the JTW.

The only exception which might lead to a permanent are players in the last 6 months of their contracts. Clubs may choose to take some money now rather than nothing at the end of the season. However, if they are “quality” we are likely to be outbidded by other clubs.

I believe we have £2,000,000 to spend in January - but that’s the lot, including wages.

Unless we get new ownership, we’ll have to generate the funds to re invest. I think there’s a good chance we’ll do a deal on Brooks, and given the lack of cash that might be the best option, sadly.

Think we should go in for Bob Booker.

I'm expecting the loan back until end of season deal, which I'm fine with as long as it's the kind of money that Prem clubs spend on young up and coming talent who have shown they can perform at the top of the Championship (ie 10 mill plus).

I suspect we will be most active in the loan market in Jan.

One or two will go out on loan, one or two will go out permanent, which will leave maybe 4 or 5 gaps.

3 of these would be loans. Decent PL / Championship players to see if we can push on over the line come end May.

If not, we can then reassess in the summer and give it another crack without the baggage of long, expensive contracts to satisfy that would be a drag and barrier to future recruitment / FFP etc.

UTB

- the money we received from the Kyle Walker sell on fee
- the money we received from the Harry Maguire sell on fee

We got 7m in sell ons wich apparently we didn't use
So if 2m is available does that mean we would have had to generate 5m just to pay the wages ?
