Back three conundrum

And because Wright needs competition.
Stearman needs to prove himself yet, he's not been great thus far, and going on that logic, then Henegan and stearman are in competition for wrights position?

I've not seen Henegan play as yet so am not going to comment on him. It does though seem pretty obvious that he is not in competition with Stearman for Wrights place. Henegan has been fully fit and not even made the bench, Stearman will make the bench at least when fully fit. With regards to Wright, OK hes done well, but his place in that current back three is the one under the most threat.

Don't dispute Wright's place being the most under threat, but if Henegan isn't going to be competing with Steerman for the place in future then what's the point in having him??, he is a defender after all, can't see him trying to oust fleck or Blackman can you?

With Stearmen looking like he will soon be back in the picture, although probably not tomorrow. Who will be our starting back three, assuming we stick with a back three. I am very impressed with CCV and can’t see him losing his place despite him being just 19 years old. For me it’s CCV, Stearman and JOC.
Is this against Forest or every other game. Its a bonkers question really as all 6 will play regularly ,when fitness ,bans. loss of form and opposition come into play.

Wright I think has not been at his best the last couple of games. He's been by no means poor, but not great either. He's also been sacrificed in both games as we look to change shape when teams have looked to be getting on top of us. He is good in a back 3 but not in a back 4 and I can see us shifting to a back 4 more and more this season during games. It would be nice to not have to use up a substitution each time we do this so having somebody like Stearman start, who is comfortable in a back 4 would be better.

I have been impressed with how well Wright has taken to the Championship and he will play a lot for us this season, and do well. However Stearman is first choice, has the better pedigree, and is Wilder's favoured option. Once fully fit he will be back in the starting line up.
We don't really change to a back 4 though do we, Wright makes way, Bash falls back and Duffy adds more attack, it's tactically great as we don't sacrifice any positions, we just keep adding more threat, and others teams struggle to deal with it, as proven very effectively in the last 2 games.

I think for today's game we'll continue with the same back three as the last two games and keep Basham in midfield but bring Duffy in for the suspended Coutts.

Personally, I can see Wright getting dropped. When he was taken off against Wolves, he wasn't happy about it & made it quite evident. Whether Wilder sees it as fire in the belly or descent, who knows. But with Stearman about ready to come back, I wouldn't be surprised to see him return in place of Wright

Was he?

That has been puzzling me too. I've read that we switched to a back four against Wednesday but I would have thought that it was as you described with Basham dropping to Centre Back (I couldn't tell from the TV coverage)

If we did play four at the back with Basham still in midfield that would be more of a 4-3-2-1 Christmas tree formation:-

Blackman
Baldock CCV O'Connell Stevens
Basham Coutts Fleck
Duffy Brookes
Clarke

Which was it?

For whatever reason Henegan is not in the running at this moment in time, doesn’t mean that he never will be, at some point he will probably be given an opportunity. It’s just obvious that at this moment in time Stearman comes before him, who incidentally has a wealth of experience at this level, don’t you think that this is maybe the reason why?

Anyone notice only Preston's defence has let in less goals than our back three? We're not winning playing gung-ho shit, no's 1-11 are all contributing.

That's because Jake is a sentimental favourite so the Bladey way is to disparage and denigrate his replacement and generally make things up e.g. the goal at Boro happened because Wright wasn't there to organise. Utter self-serving bollocks.

Stearman will replace Wright sooner rather than later. That, for those who avoid the obvious, is why Tufty recruited him.
not if we keep winning

Stearman is ahead in the order, but Wright should be ahead again, he's made the position his own over the last season and into this, is Stearman a "better" player..., maybe, is he a better player in our team than Wright, no I don't believe he is, our defence just works with him in it and works better than with Stearman in it.
Henegan won't play until he's proved he can cut it, I think he's for next season though, I think he needs a loan spell from Jan to bring him on.

Has anyone considered that Wright is not as young as he was but probably as good as he has ever been. The same goes for Duffy. By giving them less time on the pitch reduces the possibility & impact of fatigue on our "senior citizens". That doesn't seem to have caused a problem in the last 2 games. Why fix something that isn't broken?
