Link - An interesting one, especially as we have a couple of good young defenders in our academy. It could just be paper talk at a quiet time along with very little coming out of BDTBL at the moment.

The issue is that for Egan to get game time, you'd have to assume that one or both of Maguire and Collins won't be here next season. I don't think it's stretching it to say that they're planning for life after Harry...

...but please, United, if we are going to sell Harry Maguire get a decent price for him. He may not have pace but his reading of the game is exceptional for a 19 year old and he's got great technique for a centre-half.

I'd agree with that.

I struggle to see him succeeding at a much higher level for the time being so this will affect his price. I doubt we'll get anything close to 1Million like we did with Slew. Personally I thought he had an average season, Collins was far better and covered many of his errors (much like how John Terry has got away with making some massive errors over the years but gets covered by a better partner).

He lacks pace but his reading of the game (not his positioning) and his distribution are excellent.

I know people will say that he's young etc and to give him time - I totally agree, we must and he will improve, but i'm just highlighting where i think he can improve

If we're not going to get £1m for him then I'm struggling to see the sense in selling him. We were an injury away from a defensive crisis all season - just look what happened when Collins was out for an extended period.

There are greater needs on the financial side than underselling a player with considerable potential. We could save £500k by offering to release Nick Montgomery and pay half his wages until he finds a new club.

Obviously I don't have knowledge of the full financials at the Lane but I'd stick a £2m minimum price on Maguire; it's as much the message to the fans as anything.

Swiss,
Totally agree mate. I dont think Harry is as good as some think. Yes he is 19 but he is slow and clumsy. Anything more than 1 mil and I would snatch their hand off

you can coach the clumsiness out of him. can't do much for his speed, apart from coaching him to play on his toes. you don't need to be quick or even good at tackling if your reading of the game is good though.

I think he was impressive last season. Don't agree that he's clumsy, but his lack of pace is a limitation.

he got away with alot last season Bergs. Always holding on to their player etc. In fact he is shite and no one should want him :)

Harry Maguire kept Jordan Rhodes in his pocket for 300 minutes of football. Not one other league 1 defender can boast that! However, the experience and influence of Collins has helped him a lot, not to mention having Morgs working behind the scenes.

Speaking of Morgs, do you think we'll ever see him play again?
