I think Marsh has been a bit unlucky. Last couple of seasons he's been behind established players like O'Hare and Hamer, which is fair enough and he's rightly not going to break through ahead of them. But I've seen him a couple of times and he's definitely got something, something we're currently lacking. At Blackburn in the cup he looked pretty tidy without doing anything special. But he's young, still very inexperienced in men's football, it's not unusual for players to take a while to become confident enough to go at it full tilt, take chances etc, they can play within themselves and play it 'safe'. All that comes with experience.

He might not be at the level we need, but what is he going to do that is worse than we're currently putting out there? Yes it'd be a gamble, but would Peck be the established player he is if necessity hadn't thrown him in. Would he be on loan at Chesterfield etc?
 



Marsh's biggest pros are his footballing intelligence and vision. He's definitely more akin to Didsy than other players as he plays best in the number 10 hole between midfield and the front line. He m knows what he wants to do with the ball before he receives it and likes to play an early ball, whether that be the first touch as a pass/shot or take a touch and then pass/shoot. If a player is on his wavelength, which One was in development games then his link up play rips teams open.

His major downside is his lack of physicality, which in a league like the Championship he could easily get muscled off the ball. That said he is so smart with the ball that he'll have already have done something positive and forward with the ball before they get near him.

I've always rated him but his lack of physicality may be why we haven't seen much of him in the Championship. When you have a manager like Wilder who wants players to play his way instead of encouraging them to play their way, this won't help his case as he would struggle with Wilder’s brand of physical football.

He's also a victim of our lack of Cat A as he's spent the law few years in the development team largely playing inferior opponents. It's only when he's gone out on loan than he's truly been tested.

Just to remind folks that Marsh is a similar build to Cannon and Arblaster who do get game time but are obviously far better than Marsh

Red wing blade is spot on! Marsh a clever player and was the pick of young players a few years ago ! Yes could do with more physicality but talent is unmatched at our club ! A good season or even an half season might see him come through ! Could become an outstanding one for us.
 
Hopefully find a steam for chesterfield match tomorrow, got mates who support them , early days yet , but they rate him highly already !!

Hard to believe he came on against Palace in the Premier League and that was almost 3.5 years ago!

Plays in middle of front mid 3 in Chesterfield's 5-3-2-1.
He finds space, excellent ball control and passing ability. Can also play off a big CF in 4-4-2.
Also scores goals, 4 in 6 games (sub in 3 of them).
Despite his lack of physique he can easily beat a man and is a good ball carrier ie in old school he can dribble.
Imho a cross between Duffy and O'Hare. What's not to like.
He could be our O'Hare/Duffy replacement ie the missing "Number 10". Gerrim back.
He's on a season long loan but we may have a recall clause - although knowing us we won't in either case.

I advocated him being in the side a few years back, because of his goal scoring he’s a natural, you only need experience when you play games, people say he’s too young, but so was Mick Jones, Alan Woodward, Len Badger, Alan Hodgkinson and Tony Currie, what fantastic judge of a player was John Harries, Wilder only wants old players in the side, I will always want our own youth players in the side, although he has persevered with Sid Peck, Arblaster and Brooks, he needs to have the courage to play talented gifted players, which is the future, not journeyman old players who are always injured
 
Whatever we think about the likes of Marsh/One/Baptiste being ready for first team football what we do know is that most of these geriatrics we have brought in either arent good enough, arent fit enough or arent sound enough to make much of an impact. Plus they arent our future as nearly all arent ours and will be off at the end of the season. Then what next season, rinse repeat?

Blood the young uns and hopefully give us something to look forward to. One has to get a proper chance when hes fit ahead of the likes of Cannon and Campbell to see if we have another Osula on our hands.

mate with all due respect , you anit going to find another "Mick Jones, Alan Woodward, Len Badger, Alan Hodgkinson and Tony Currie" in a million years , no one in the entire team comes close to them , and no one will ever touch Alan Woodward EVER !!

personally leave marsh at Chesterfield this season let him prove himself at that level , We brought David Brooks back form Chesterfield and Marsh is no where near him !! That 2-4 bouncing Massacre was one of the best displays i have ever seen of a young player in a United shirt !! Brooks and Leonnnnnnn were fantastic together ,OOhhh and guess what we sold another fantastic player to Bournemouth like we ALWAYS do sell out best players , and then we wonder why we cant compete and then blame the fucking Manager , its like goundhog day supporting this club !!

The lad is doing great so far, 6 appearances in all competitions, 4 goals, 1 assist. If he carries on he’ll be in double figures in both columns by the end of the season.

He doesn't like bringing youth through, he doesn't trust them. But if Marsh leaves the club without having a proper run in the team or chance to prove himself it would be the biggest damning indictment on both the manager and coaching staff yet. He has everything you'd want from a deep lying forward/number 10 at this level. He's basically a young Bamford, and it's crazy that we haven't just had him as his understudy for the season...

I’d rather have Rodney Marsh than Ayew.

I don’t know how we can still be talking about a lack of physicality when he’s scoring goals and playing well in league two. Aren’t the lower leagues supposed to be infamous for being more rough and tumble?

Cannon looks to have bulked up massively over the summer at a similar age, no reason Marsh couldn’t do the same if put on a proper program over a summer.

I don't care what level he's played at, if we signed a player for number 10 and the fans of his club said these things, we'd be extremely excited to see him.
