Awful window

Annoying thing is way back in December Wilder was saying things like, “we’re working on targets already the board know who we want blah blah blah”
Here we are with one day of the window left and we have no one🤦‍♂️
To be fair every manager says that and they’re all nearly always wrong.

They know exactly how the window is.

Losing to Charlton and Southampton ensured it would be a shit window

This ☝🏼

Play offs are now a distant hope unfortunately. I'm not against keeping money in our pockets and ridding as many of the terrible summer signings as possible then giving Wilder a decent summer budget to give it a crack next season. However - some big teams likely to be relegated so will be a tough promotion push irrespective.

It will be interesting to see. Parachute payments gone and all I would be surprised if there will be a a budget available.

Just more CW clichés. It's OK being on message until the reality dawns, again

Not really.

quip
noun [ C ]
UK /kwɪp/ US /kwɪp/

a humorous and clever remark:
Yes , really ,
A window shaped like a cock.
Many think CoH & Selles made a cock of last summer's window.
There's lots of comment on here about the current window.
Just an instant visual gag.
Nothing too deep.
Easy to understand.
A quip.
Not meant for forensic analysis.

It's a meaningless window.

The January window isn't for long term future proofing of a squad, it's for immediate returns in a promotion / relegation battle - neither of which we are part of.

If there's some value to be had in signing a guy with 6 months left on his deal and getting ahead of the Summer market, or in selling a player for more than they're worth because somebody is desperate, then fair enough... Otherwise, I'm OK with us staying out of this one.

If we'd beaten Charlton & Southampton it would be a different story. We lost both.

Dear Me , you seem to be repeating yourself - which doesn't strengthen your point

One of the Rules of Comedy states “if you have to explain it, it can’t be funny” You explained it! 😄

The claim of me repeating myself IS funny. But more ironic really!

Can we blame it all on Oliver Langford. Because if we hadn't had Tanganga sent off we might not have lost that game.
And similar vs Southampton.

Said exactly the same after the game on Saturday. 1 point from 9 v Charlton, Southampton and Millwall is probably the final nail in our late season Play Off push.

Why would we pay over-inflated prices and high loan fees?? Best thing we could do is get the fringe players out on loan (One/Marsh as examples) and get 20 games in their legs and see what we'll be needing next Summer.

Wilder is smart enough to know those three games have altered the course of our season.

It seems like we’re the ones under a transfer embargo not the pigs who somehow are signing players. All this we’re not going up or getting relegated when not sign a few players now bed them in so we have the best chance of starting next season in a strong position instead of bedding them in at the end of the summer window a few games into the season

Get rid of as many as we can today should be the aim and give youth a chance …

The last time we had 4 really good youth players in the first team three wen in to be th spine of the team for a number of years (Jags, Monty, Tongue, Woodhouse)

Now it’s Femi, Brookes, Peck and Blaster … don’t sign anyone who’s going to block their path and keep hold of them all this window and the summer.

Move wilder upstairs brig in another coach who’s the right fit and go again with a core of how grown talent with a full season under their belts.

Woodhouse left before Jags, Monty and Tonge broke into the team really.

No point in doing a firesale. Sure if we get appropriate bids then accept but otherwise nah.

I do think we need to look at Seriki and Brooks contracts aren't they up in 18 months?

Only real transfer I hope we see today is cover to Burrows (if McCallum's injury is how it looks and unlikely to play again this season).

Those saying RND, assuming on the basis he has been playing, any recall clause might be no longer in play? IN which case, we don't actually have any cover (who plays there in Under 21s?).

Lets close off this season and get to the summer. Unless we can pick up some potential or a bargain (not really a thing in January is it..), no point wasting money.

One curious point. We don’t really have a direct replacement for Bamford.

What happens if we bid for Cadamarteri?

Just curious. In terms of the Admin, their responsibilities lie with the sound financial running, not some partisan notion.

Suppose top bid is 1m and we bid 1.1m.

Are they obliged to take the highest bid or would the notion of cross city rivalry be allowed to play its part?

Just curious what folk thought they would have to do?

COH bought in when we were on the verge of the PL. They gave us millions to spend on a striker that didn't work out, and we missed the boat to the promised land, which, let's be right, was more than likely the only reason why they risked coming in.
Understandable for them to be even more risk averse this time, their only evidence being that we failed them last May.
NOT a defence of COH - just a consideration in the bigger picture.

I feel like this window is simply a means of allowing Wilder to try and right the wrongs of the summer and get prepped early for next season. Get shut of the rubbish, get some cover where we need it and bed players in for the inevitable churn in the summer.

Realistic success, in my mind would be a top half finish, based on the terrible start and us playing some good stuff punctuated with some real garbage.

Play offs aren't out of the question but we'd need to go some between now and the end of the season to get there.

Oddly, if we did make it, we could be that side that finishes 6th riding a wave of momentum with nothing to lose rather than stumbling over the line like we usually do and then letting ourselves down when it matters.
