Awful away supporters

I blame segregation of supporters, which has allowed people to get pissed before games. When I was in my late teens you had to keep your wits about you to fight off the opposing fans.

I go to quite a few away matches and last night went to Wigan with a mate who's a Wigan fan, his niece and my wife. Me and the missis sat with the Blades in front of another couple. It started after a few minutes when the first goal went in, a bitter and incessant barking of bile and invective targeted at, the ref (maybe he deserved it) plus, Adkins, Sharp, Baxter, Hammond from some supporters around us. The couple behind us went somewhere else.
I laughed at one of the mindless comments and one orc, eyes bulging started spattering at me. 'So this is f***g ok is it you c***........... there was no reasoning with him and then his mates started, you all get the picture by now?. My wife went to stand somewhere else, they scored a second, it was half time.

We went to stand somewhere else and it started again with some other 90 decibel obscene ranting and raving from a different set of contorted faces. Then 3-0, more venom.

Now those first 60 minutes of football were poor, we are all disappointed and some angry. I'm no prude, no angel, my Sheffield steelworks English is as as good/bad as anyone. But I was ashamed to be associated with these morons whose behaviour I'm sure is putting ordinary fans off. It was bad enough at Oldham and Walsall but last night was awful.

I don't know any other walk of life where such behaviour is tolerated, so why should mindless, pissed (presumably) nehanderthals get way with it at football matches? I feel really sorry for them, some of them my age (late 50s) whose idea of a good day out is to lose control of their anger and act like spoilt brats when we lose the ball or don't win. It not passion, its pathetic. Its certainly not helping. Its not support.

I don't think my wife will go away again this season, it wont stop me, but in future, where possible I'll be passing on seat details to the club, I don't want to put up with it.

O yes, great comeback, we won a point. Why the f**** didn't Adkins do something sooner, were f*****g shit was the final comment as we went out.

Happy Days. I'm just glad I didn't take my Aussie nieces.

It's so painfully true and some (Deano) will call you out for not being a Blade if you ever reported it. Everyone's entitled to their opinion but not to that kind of abuse. I don't know if you went to Swindon last season in the playoffs but that's the worst I've heard. I genuinely thought a pitch invasion was coming.

We all like to let go a bit at the match, but some fans at all clubs use it as an excuse to be animals I think. Same at Sunday league. I once got offered a fight by a 50 year old in the car park after a match he hadn't even played in.

I think we should apply the same barrage of abuse at posters on here who
don't perform to certain levels, grammar, spelling, misuse of words, cliched usernames,
posting UTB after every post, etc etc, etc.

That should see the "poor" contributors dismissed to the reserves or in forum case, WAB, where they can
realise their full potential, failing to do so would see them there forever.
If for other reasons, there's a chance of becoming a regular poster but you just need to
sharpen up a little, a loan deal to BM could be arranged?
The way you've laid out those paragraphs, you need to have a good look at yourself.

The problem is with this argument is that if most of us don't perform we're out of the door without a second glance.

This old chestnut.

Hazard a guess that you offer people the chance to play a game for several thousand pound a week they'd jump at the chance and would cope with a couple of boos.

What you on about? And no need to bring me into your silly little posts

I realise it's possible to take this all too seriously and too literally, but I thought that denigrated the achievements of the players.

We equalised because we played very well, as a team, and a manager. We should have shouting that from the roof tops - if we could get past the stewards.
WHF what game did you go to last night because you are deluded if you think we played well. We battled back and showed some real fight for 20-25 minutes but previously to that we were a very poor side. The vitriol can often go overboard but after all these years in this league with players regularly underperforming on top dollar league 1 wages you can understand at least the frustrations fans feel. "We're fuckin shit" can affect the players in different ways but though it wasn't nice it was, at the time, truthful. If it hurt the players feelings, good. The ball was in there court as to whether it hurt enough to do anything about it. More of the same fight please

Did you win?

Can't blame fans for being thoroughly pissed off with the current situation at the Lane, as the best fans in the UK are continually shafted by those tossers on the board. We took around £1.75m for Murphy, plus another £1m+ from the OT game, so why haven't we gone out and brought in players that are glaringly missing from the first XI (at the very least one decent centre back and one decent target man). On so many levels we should be able to cherry pick the best players in this division to fill the gaps in our team, but thanks to the board we (the fans) are getting shafted again, hence the moodiness in the away following.

That lot on the board are taking the piss, it's 13 days into the JTW, what's the odds on their still not being a decent centre half or target man at the Lane come 31st Jan?

I get your overall point but you're genuinely annoyed that we haven't signed someone since Saturday tea time?

I've noticed a difference over the last few seasons in away fans behaviour. The match starts really well, lots of optimism , if we score all is well, fans happy singing away. If we go one down.......oh my goodness ....then the vitriol starts.
Vile insults are thrown at the players, manager, away fans, stewards, and if you get in the way, you too are shouted down.ive even seen fights break out between fans at Wembley.
Alcohol has a lot to answer for. I have no problems with fans going for a drink before the game, it's part and parcel of the the away day. I like a pint or two ( Yep I'm a lightweight I'm afraid) it sometimes helps when watching the football. I do believe tho that the alcohol does effect the fans responses and not in a good way

A bit of swearing and frustration at going 3 nil down at a football match? Fancy that.

As was mentioned your seating details plan is void in it's method, so you're just going have to accept it. If you don't like it that much, there's nothing forcing you to attend.

No, I'm genuinely annoyed that we haven't properly replaced Harry Maguire 18 months after he was sold - 4th window we've had to replace him, and still no sign of it happening. And I don't expect that to change by the end of January.

AT home matches I stand at the back of the kop and the worst you hear is " golly, gosh and fiddlesticks" I had a ticket for Wigan but took it back after the postponement. I would have also been shocked at this unnecessary behaviour

Seat numbers counted for nothing last night as the stewards informed fans going in it was unreserved seating, so you could sit anywhere.

Plenty of places to sit away from any "ne'er do wells", unlike most away games where apart from the odd dickhead it's usually fine ( apart from sitting at the front in the smoke bomb shy)

I didn't care for the "shit" chant but it arose from frustration. The same people got behind the team as soon as we upped our game. Don't think they were the ones who walked out at 3-0.

Damn your eyes Sir!

How sad of you to collate those posts. Whenever. I read one of your posts I get the impression you are about to start crying. I think football may be a bit too feisty for you.

One man's 'racist chanting' is another man's 'feisty' I see.

seriously though, you're just as entitled to an opinion as I am and indeed should be able to attack people for not being real Blades/having an agenda based on their behaviour.

But I do think you're part of the problem.

This thread is about abusive away fans. I responded with a humorous post on the first page of the thread. Many seemed to like it and it currently has 43 likes. Then you come along and have a go at me because I had a different view about the Bradford ISIS chanting issue. Actually naming me in your post and re-producing my posts is frankly pathetic.

For the record, I have been critical of the club on many issues - as my posts will show - and no, I don't think it makes me less of a Blade. Clearly the Bradford game divided opinion and I certainly disagreed with you on it. I don't think it was racist and feel it was blown out of all proportion. Some agreed with me. You and some others disagreed. Why you needed to bring it up again in this thread only you will know.

It's like having a new CEO.
Oh and thank God (or Foxy) for the edit button.

Well we agree on one thing - your first post was pretty funny.

I like reproducing posts anyway. I once wall papered my bathroom with a fascinating discussion on the finer points of Proctor and Gamble's recruitment policy.

Only 43 likes for that post? There's some miserable aggressive fuckers in our fanbase :)

I don't think maidmarion is referring to "a bit of swearing and frustration". In fact, the only way you could interpret her post in that way is by deliberately and wilfully misreading it.

If she doesn't like the dickheads and the bullies and the violence she should just stop going ?? I recommend you take a long hard look at yourself, then go away and have a think.

Football, and Sheffield United, has belonged to communities and supporters like maidmarion since forever, not to the stupidest and loudest and most boorish. If you don't like it, I suggest you stop going.

Oh. I forgot. You have.

What a ridiculous post. Swearing will always be present at football games, it's part and parcel of society, I get that, most people do. At home games, if you don't want to hear such language you're advised to sit on the family stand. To do this you must take a child and the swearing is still present but not quite as bad.

What about away games? They don't have designated family sections for away supporters, you're all just lumped together.

I have taken my little girl (5yrs) to just the one away game. that was MK Dons last season. One of the reasons for this is due to the size of the away end. I knew I could easily sit out of the way on some empty seats.

I wouldn't dream of taking her to most away games due to the horrible minority of fans that we have.

Gillingham away this season - "Fuck off Long you Cunt, I hope you die"
Burton away - some similar bile was shouted as we drew 0-0 with the then league leaders.
I remember Anfield in 2003 a full on fight broke out in the seats behind me with blood and everything.
Wembley vs. Hull - infighting again.
Man Utd on Saturday - Bloke in front was booting the seat off it's bolts so he could throw it at the Man Utd fans.

I'm sorry Barney. Frustration at being 3-0 down is one thing but some of the stuff you hear and see, especially at away games is an embarrassment to the club.

So had I taken my little girl to Wigan and a guy shouts at another guy "So this is fucking ok is it you cunt", please advise me what the best course of action is??? I have asked people not to swear infront of my kids before and been greeted with "shut the fuck up, what are you going to do about it?"

No 5yr old should have to listen to that.
