Away end lower tier Bolton match

I may be wrong but isn't the general deal that if the away club requests tickets over and above the minimum permitted allocation they have to pay for them, sold or not?
That would make sense, we lose money otherwise if a club requests all the extra allocation but then can't sell it to their fans.

New Premier League rules for next season say that away fans must be seated "pitchside". It says you cannot put home fans between the away fans and the pitch. Therefore as and when we get there, away fans will have to go in BLLT. The rule is aimed at stopping some clubs (Newcastle?) sticking fans up with the (non-football) Gods.

We should give away fans the worst stand in the ground...................The Kop it is then!

With a week left, Bolton still had 100 tickets left in the upper tier. So we had to make a decision re the lower tier. Sell the tickets to Blades and sell maybe another 1,000-2,000 tickets or take a risk that Bolton were only going to sell another 500 or so. With just one away fan in the lower tier it would have meant paying a significantly higher amount for policing. I also suspect that, if the lower tier of BL is Blades then the lower wing of the South Stand won't need to be cordoned off for segregation - so we can also sell that.

At the end of the day, it's our ground and we can do what we want and 2000+ tickets is more then generous for an away team...

Presumably Bolton had to sell all the upper tier tickets first before selling any lower tier tickets and I suspect there may have been some kind of contingency plan put in place agreed by both clubs if, as transpired, they had'nt sold so many by a certain date.

Exactly.

Ultimately whilst I appreciate some fans do it leave it late to buy tickets, when you've sold less than half your allocation after a few weeks with only a few days left, why should we risk a couple of hundred on the BL lower.

But those figures aren't backed up by the kinds of numbers travelling to away games in the Championship. The stats for last season can be found here:

http://the72.co.uk/54224/championship-average-attendance-2015-2016/

The average away attendance didn't top 2700.... nowhere near your 3000+ estimate.

That's because the away matchday price is £30 to £38 so most away fans are forced to pick and choose their matches. Many are giving Hillsboro a miss this season.

For our first season back Bramall Lane will be one of the more popular grounds to visit.
And if we charge some of the lowest prices in the Championship then you can bet several clubs would bring 3 to 4,000.

Next season if we're in the Championship we'll surely have to give the away fans the lower tier. It's what we do about extra allocations that's the question. Especially as I really think we should be offering season tickets to our fans on the upper tier, ideally centrally behind the goal. And there will be plenty of clubs who'll easily sell out the initial allocation. We'll attract large away followings because we've been away for a while, are in quite a central location and there are more well supported clubs in the Championship than ever.

Ideally the extra allocation would be in the corner half of the upper tier and the club could do something to separate the exit from the South Stand exit.

If not maybe the extra allocation could be in the central part of the upper tier and season ticket holders could be moved across into the corner when required.

Ignoring any other logistical or monetary issues, you're really suggesting season ticket holders be moved "when required"?

I really don't care about what Bolton fans want,as long as we fulfil our obligations by football league rules, they can f**k off !! To be honest I would rather the BL lower seats be empty than sell them to the 'Trotters',anyway their nickname suggests that they are related to the S6 Pork !!

Unless we're challenging for promotion or play-offs, which is academic given that we haven't even gone up yet, then we won't even need to be worrying about ticket allocations. We'll be struggling to hit lower 20's on a consistent basis. The only exceptions will be pigs and leeds' visits. And fuck them anyway, give 'em the bare minimum.

Just because I haven't gone into other issues and details doesn't mean I haven't thought about them.

Moving season ticket holders isn't something that would happen often anyway, as most of the games attracting large away followings would also attract a large home crowd, in which case the away team wouldn't be given an extra allocation.

So we were pissed off about something their directors did and now our directors get their own back by pissing off Bolton fans? Great.

I can't see much support for that though. Are you saying you wouldn't object to be relocated a handful of times a season? I would.

Being moved 2/3 times a season would be a small price to pay and if you were told about it in advance, and there's no reason you wouldn't be, then you couldn't have any complaints. It's not like you'd be moved into a completely different area, it's still the upper tier and it's still a good view.

As I said though, I'd rather have the away fans in the corner if possible.

We get low 20s now with no away following. If we go up, there will be a dramatic increase in season ticket holders and away fans. I'd suspect we will get mid 20s if we go up without fail.
