Sponsorship makes me sad. Kennedys Kop ? Duchy Homes Family Enclosure?

I know it's an extra few quid in the kitty, but it stinks of knowing the price of everything and the value of nothing. I don't really see what the sponsor gets out of it either, to be honest. Is there a single United fan anywhere who refers to the Hualing South Stand? I've all on not to call it 'the new South Stand' and show my age.
John Street, Kop (or Shoreham), Bramall Lane, South Stand (or new stand). And Kop corner and BL corner. That's it, that's what they'll always be.

So much for sponsorship. I still have no clue as to what a Hualing is roughly seven months in to the season, and I really can't be arsed to find out either.

As for "The attendance is brought to you by", "this substitution is sponsored by" and "time added on in association with"....off the top of your head can anyone remember who sponsors all this rubbish without looking it up ?

I would have been tempted by that – I decided to buy mine before the Scunthorpe game and will be heading to the Westfield corner for the first time instead. Never been on either tier of the Bramall Lane end.

I've been in there 4 or 5 times now and Westfield corner has the best view in the ground in my opinion, especially if your right on the apex towards the top. The atmosphere can be a bit flat up there at times, and it can be annoying as you can hear the retards in the away end more, but when the ground's nearly full and thumping its great. Enjoy.

They build flats in Georgia and if you dig deep enough you find someone with the surname McCabe on their board...

Flats, hotels, shopping malls etc in various places.

Didn't think any of the McCabes are on the board, believed it was all joint ventures, Hualing investment.

The usual practice with JVs is to set up a separate JV company for each JV with directors of each parent company on 'the board'. As you know, this limits liabilities and I believe is also 'tax efficient', particularly if registered in BVI or IOM etc.

Yes. My point was re the Hualing board itself.

I've got an idea
Fuck away fans

No club should get more than the lower tier next season
We have had 20,000 of our own fans in this division whilst being here 6 years so there is no reason why we shouldn't have at least 23,000 plus of our own fans next season.
Add 2,000 - 3,000 away fans to that and it's a healthy 25,000 - 26,000 with a bit of extra room for OUR OWN FANS if we do better than expected.

So, some parts of the stadium might only be 80% full, so what ?
It's better that than two tiers of Leeds fans, Derby fans, Villa fans, Wendy fans or Forest fans restricting how many of our fans can attend

We get low 20s now with no away following. If we go up, there will be a dramatic increase in season ticket holders and away fans. I'd suspect we will get mid 20s if we go up without fail.

Incredibly, we're averaging 20,590 so far this season - the best in all our 6 seasons in Div. 3. In the 2002/03 'Triple Assault' season (2002/03) where we reached the semis of both major cups got to the play-off final and finished third in Div. 2 the average League crowd was 18,073 - approx. 2.5k lower than this season. This seasons average is certain to increase - the Bolton and Bradford games will each add 1k to the average.

Well get 25-26k in our first season back in Div. 2.

Say what you like about Warnock and mccabe but the fan base has grown substantially thanks to them

I'd say historically for the decade before it was more like 16000

Attendance stats. here. Some sobering stats there - 2000 (13,700), 1996 (12,901). However as much as I liked Warnock's time here, some of the crowds with him in charge were very low.

If we didn't have stands and whatever else sponsored I presume the cost of tickets would go up, transfer fees and player salaries affected? And of course the abuse the board etc would get for being naive and living in the past, I, like everybody else call it the kop, South stand etc and enjoy the sponsors cash and the effort made by board members getting this money in, if we go up we were told substantial sponsorship funds woukd be coming our way, does anybody suggest we tell them we dont want it? Some folk are living in the 70's

It's a fact of life in most sports unfortunately. As for what Sponsors get out of it, I dunno, free seats and some nibbles?

A bit misleading that, Warnock was not at the club in 96 his first full season was 2000-01 and attendances grew every year bar one while he was in charge. Isn't the 13,700 figure for the 99-2000 season when we had the disaster of Adrian Heath until December?

Well maybe. But the night of Nov. 6, 2002 when we beat Leeds (Worthington Cup Third Round, 1-0 down, board goes up with 4 extra minutes -unheard of in those days ' and Jags & Ndlovu scored to make it 2-1) was played out in front of a crowd of just 26,663 - less than last Saturday. The following Saturday, we were at home to Ipswich (Nov. 9) in the league. What was the crowd to reward the Blades for this historic victory just four days earlier? 15,884.

But don't forget that according to North-Korea-Talk, all our tickets are now given away to students and we have press gangs roaming the streets forcing people in. This would obviously be a sensible and rational explanation of the current crowd increase.

Good point. I'd put it down to relative affordability and the general increase in the popularity of football.

Again a bit misleading Graf as we did not sell tickets on the lower tier due to the seat throwers bad rep and there was no Westfield corner at that time which all in would knock about 4000+ off the gate. So otherwise the ground would have been just about full that night and historically Ipswich games never do generate large crowds they usually are lower than the season average. They used to say when Warnock took over that the break even figure was 16,000 Colin bettered this every season he was here.

That season in the Prem helped a lot. Before that a few of seats at the lane had never had an arse on them and many where festooned undisturbed cobwebs.

Wasn't that Ipswich game in the FA Cup?

Nope, it was a league game (we played Ipswich in the FA Cup 4th Round on Jan. 25, 2003) and won 4-3. Crowd? Even worse than the League game - 12,757.

I doubt it, mb. Leeds wasn't the greatest draw in those days and it was a bitterly freezing night.

Some dickhead I know has let a good friend of his uncle's, who is a Bolton fan, use his customer number and address to get 5 tickets for him and his family in the BL lower tier.

Can't believe the promise of a couple of beers and a bit of cash in hand would reduce a Blade to such measures. Sad, really...

Is the Stag Weekend back on, do you think?

Grass on him. Proper wanker thing to do that.

MB is spot on. Lower tier was left empty due to potential trouble - knocking approx 2900 off of the capacity then which was just over 30000. So the attendance for that game was just about a sell out considering there were only about 27100 seats available. Not sure if Leeds fully sold out the upper tier.

And it was a great draw, everyone was buzzing about it, I remember being away at Wolves on the day they made the draw and everyone going crazy over it. It was the first time we'd played them in almost a decade. The atmosphere that night was amazing.
