I've just read some horseshit in the Wed***day Star that the little old pub team that needs to "mind the gap" are above the Scum in the average league attendances this year :eek:

Surely ……. this cannot be correct as they are a MASSIVE Club !!

The figures must be wrong, mis-quoted or maybe they don't include their 165,000 season ticket holders.

But …… well done to all Blades this year and looking forward to another one ….. ;)

it’s inly because we gave away half a million tickets to students .. apparently :)

Successful clubs don't prattle on about attendances. The fact that both ourselves and the subhuman S6 scum do so frequently speaks volumes unfortunately.

It'd be lovely if I never heard anything about crowd sizes ever again. Fat chance of that bizarre little fixation ever ceasing though.

With respect mate, and I do get your view, successful clubs don't talk attendances because they all have huge attendances, selling out every week with fans from all over the country if not beyond, often there because they want to support a team that wins trophies regularly. We've not won a trophy since pre war and that's not the Falklands war either! So for both Sheffield clubs to get a combined average of over 50,000 in the second tier is worth talking about and even more when we've got more than they have! Aside from league position, what else shall we compare between the the clubs? Trophies won?!

You would think on a forum such as this there would be a way to link to the story to which you are referring!

I'm sure it's a misprint, they just missed a few 0s of the end of the Wednesday figures...and didn't include season tickets, it's the only explanation

We'd have finished in the top six (with the pigs missing out) if placings were based on attendances

Love to know what % those figures are in relation to ground capacity.

Been saying it for a while now.

United have caught and overtaken Wednesday’s fanbase. They’ve been stagnant for years, doing nothing to develop and grow what they had. As a result their fanbase has over time actually shrunk a little as supporters lose their affinity to the club and find other things to do.

(Saying that IMO their support has always be exaggerated. I’ve never seen anything crowd wise to justify this myth about them being potentially a huge club)

While this was happening McCabe had incentives such as cheaper tickets and looked after the younger future supporters of the club. Add to that the undoubted extra support from students who get hooked and then settle in the city (again thanks to McCabe targeting the Universities)

The year in the Prem did us no harm either.

But the biggest unfathomable thing for me is the incredible hardcore loyalty of the fans that’s kept the club going over the years.

There is not another club in the country with our record of having shit kicked in our faces and under achievement on a epic scale who can match our numbers.

It’s a bit perverse but the more shit we go through, the bigger our fanbase gets.

Attendances do matter. There is a limit to what you can build, sustain and ultimately achieve without large crowds.

Personally I’m delighted we’re battering the pigs on the only indicator they care about.

We’re truly massive. Our potential is enormous. Mid-table Premiership enormous. We’ll get there and, hopefully, tackle it properly next time...

❤️⚔️

Daft to compare really.

If Wednesday had had our season and we'd had theirs then their attendances would have been higher than ours.

Last season when they finished 4th they had average attendance of 27,130. Season before when they finished 6th, which I would argue was a more comparable season to ours this season, they averaged 22,641

If either team had a significantly bigger fanbase than the other it may be a valid point of pride, but we don't, so it isn't.

Arguing over a few hundred or even a couple of thousand here and there does just seem petty.

Well said.

I honestly don't know why people get so tetchy about it.

Wednesday have a bigger stadium than us and slightly more fans.

So what? Why does it matter? Get over it.

Got to laugh though haven't you the last thing the piggies could crow about is no more ............................ or so we thought. Now their favourite is if we'd had the season United have just had our average would have been bigger that about sums it up eh PeterNdlovu081

You disagree then?
