I had considered posting this on the 'Rumours' section but as it is clear we have fallen short in bringing in who we would have wanted this becomes more than an afterthought rather an avenue we should be aware of, if not pursuing.

Those available include the likes of:

Besic
Robbie Brady
Bentaleb
Ibe
Mangala
Ntcham
Andre Wisdom
Wilshere
Angel Romero
Mustafi

You can see a more lengthy list here: https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/statistik/vertragslosespieler

Of course the fact that these players are still available isn't a positive indictment, however when you leave business to the last minute and things fall through you find yourself looking at dregs and in my opinion we need dregs rather than no-one.

I would seek:

  • One ball winning midfielder. That 35 year old Algerian has been mentioned, and perhaps as he knows Slav fair enough but I think there are better ones available.
  • At least one winger
  • A back-up centre back. If we play 3 at the back we only have Robinson as back up which is unacceptable.

If this is an avenue we pursue better sooner rather than later to get players up to fitness and integrated into the squad, with the international break coming up it's the perfect opportunity to do just that.

If we're really signing a 35 year old Algerian who has played in the QSL then I'd be worried.

The QSL is where players go for a last payday, it's walking pace football at best. I've watched a dozen or so games and it really is the pits. You don't go from the QSL back to a competitive league, you go somewhere like China or Australia or other such shite leagues.

Clearly some of our lot can’t even get a deal there! Would have liked some pace but we now have an ever bigger wage bill as nobody came in for any of our superstars... that tells us everything. Slav needs at least 2 windows and to clear out some of our overpaid , underperforming players. I fear we will struggle to off load as we gave them longer deals.... another Wilder problem of old pals act contracts.... Leon Clarke esk etc... we have options now to clear out central midfield and see can people look up and pass forward.

Robbie Brady is the pick of that bunch but he’s just another Osborn.

Is there anything left in Jordan Ibe? 25 year old but tossed it off something royally at B'mouth

Slav needs another couple of windows to sort out the shite we are left with.

At CB we have Lopata who will have to be the second back up after Robinson. (Maybe even the first back up?)

Further up field he's going to have to bring in some of our youth players. Ndiaye and Brunt look like being our back up, back ups.

Wilders plan was of course to reward progress so give better deals as players performed. Of course the issue with that is you can't turn Norwood into Ronaldo. So there is a ceiling that you hit. It seems these players were rewarded rather than replaced with better options and that's down to the previous manager who didn't see the slide coming. TBH no many of us did to this extent!

Last time I looked there was still Jamal Blackman, Neil Taylor and Ahmed Elmohamedy available.

Villa fans still rate Ahmed Elmohamedy but they just don't think he can cut it at PL level.

I expect at 33 he may just go and play somewhere in the middle east.

we have enough dregs so whats the point in more dregs

Stepped away from the game due to his mental health. If football was something he thought would be healthy for him again and he’s supported correctly by a club then yeah he could resurrect his career Stephen caulker did it. I suspect it’ll have to be in his own time on his own terms though extending him the offer to train with us so both sides could get a feel for things would be a sensible move though certainly.

Besic will do for me.

Giovinco and Ribery on either wing with Falcao up top and Pastore behind him, could learn something of Bash them lot
