If Pigs get another win, that silly cunt Mark will start sayin that the autos are very much on,no worra mean, you will here him sayin look where Fulham were this time last season 11th ?

Cheers Roy. Got the turkey yesterday along with the JD, and Peroni and two trolleys of goodies (jeez)

Gonna forget about work for ten days or so and have some festive snap, drink and games with the family.

Maybe the lads will come out of the traps with a bit more clinical finishing in 2019.

Not ruled out top two yet. Still well in it but we need to start being more ruthless up front. Which means serious strengthening in that department.

I do think we’ll reach the play-offs at least.

I would expect Wilder to have 3 targets in August
1- asperational = finish top
2- realistic = 4-8th, preferably play off
3- minimum= mid table

3rd has to be a gimme, considering last year and there are weaker teams than us in the division
2nd is us finishing above par against budget, championship experience etc. Where a positive minded manager would see as success aligned with realism
1st is why not? Ala Leicester, but that was such a story because it’s so against the odds. Class, over 46 games should show through

As supporters we are all aspirational for our beloved team, but we should keep an eye on the other 2.
A Man City fan of mine around October said we may be having a double celebration come May. I wished him well in his quest, but suggested that we will drop off and end up mid table...... it’s like a 4x400m relay, but we only have 2 or 3 quality runners, and if one gets injured etc we’re out of it. Where as the top ones have 4 quality, then another 2 or 3 back up
Keep the faith, keep dreaming, but keep grounded......

They're saying on Owlstalk that Wednesday are only 11 points off the play-offs too ... ;)

Don't think we willwil in contention for automatic promotion after Leeds got a very late winner at Villa today. Was praying for a Villa win or a draw and the gap would have then been possible.

Nine points is a big ask now though and when you look at the squads on show today I think we've given another very good account of ourselves on a much smaller budget.

Leeds and Norwich somehow keep getting wins and some are very very late in games.

Watched a bit of today's encounter and both sides showed good pace, passing and movement and hate to say it but Leeds were still going forward right to the very end when many teams would have sat back and protected what they'd already got.

Unless we can go on another incredible run (and get a couple of quality loans in) I can see us maybe just scraping into the playoffs.

Personally I would be very happy with that as we stand and I think that CW AK and the squad have made progress in 2018.

Merry Christmas Blades one and all.

Nothing’s gone. Not autos. Not promotion. Not relegation. We’ve just reached the half way point of the season. Way too early to say anything like that.

West Brom and Leeds for the top 2 now IMO.

West Brom have got better players than Leeds.

I don't think Leeds are any stronger on paper than they've been for some years.

The problem they have is if they can keep playing that way for a full season, which personally I doubt.

The burned out in the final quarter when Monk was there.

With West Brom it's different.

For me, top two was always too much to expect.

If United get into the top six, bearing in mind what Tufty hasn't spent, then he'll have played a blinder.

Only L**ds , Norwich and WBA are the candidates for the automatics. Been fearing that Villa would be climbing up fast so I wanted them to lose today.

I'd say Villa and WBA are the best equipped to do it, simply because they have the best players.

I think Norwich are over-achieving, and with Leeds it's the style of play.

But doing that for a full season is a big ask.

Leeds and Norwich will go up if they keep slotting in 95 minute winners. However, it's much more likely that these boys will stop having that level of luck and start to drop a bit. In my view Leeds and WBA are the best teams we have seen at the lane.

Top 6 will be a great achievement

Villa probably need more than 50 points from next 23 games to be in the top two positions. A play off place is more realistic.

I must admit I quite like Leeds manager , never heard of him before , looks like Jack Duckworth , sits on a stool , never celebrates , never publicly claps or praises the players , when they scored there 3rd today coming back from 2 down all the bench went mad he just turned away !! And he seems very good at his job , fookin hate Leeds though !

You’ll always get premature proclamations like the op for all sorts of reasons there seems to be a need to make them,
everyone to thier own.Hull we’re dead men walking a few weeks ago,It takes a few consecutive wins and everything changes.
Leeds and Norwich are looking good but if they draw a few and they are back in the pack....

If it’s ‘everyone to their own’ why call the op a premature proclamation?

I guess that’s your ‘opinion’ or is it a sarcastic dig, maybe I’m reading it wrong.

Just as my op was about having a discussion about the future chances of the Blades getting promoted it seems like you have a problem with other people commenting on this.

Merry Christmas hope you and your family have a good festive holiday.

******* WARNING - POSITIVE POST INCOMING - LOOK AWAY SNOWFLAKES ;) *********

Leeds although are a very good team have also had a lot of luck which has placed them top...

Reading missed a last minute penalty = 2 extra points for Leeds
We gifted them an early Xmas present with a huge mistake when it was heading for a draw = 2 extra points
Villa messed up in the last minute which gave them 2 extra points.

Had the above not happened then we would be sat in 4th and only 3 points behind Leeds - luck does even itself over the season.

Although Leeds deserve their lead it is ludicrous to say that the autos are out of our reach at the half way stage.

Who knows what the transfer window will provide? - key players coming in and leaving for the top teams' can make a huge difference for the run in.

Like us, Leeds play the game at a frenetic pace, it is very difficult to keep up that pace and intensity for a whole season as we all know very well.

Don't give up yet Blades but I am more focused on a realistic top 6 spot this year. If we fail then we have a proper push for top 2 next season.

Let's hope we get some luck then that will carry us along on a wave of success to the promised land.

Jeez does anybody on here know what a rhetorical question is ffs?

Perhaps not and I'm not gonna explain it.

Suffice to say I really hope I'm wrong about being able to catch the current leaders but as I said in the op, we'd need to go on a terrific run unbeaten like we did in Lg 1 which would be much more difficult to emulate at this level.

Furthermore and to also reiterate my op I'm loving the way we've taken on teams in a positive way and if we fall short I'll be disappointed but still believe we've out outperformed all my expectations.

Seems many on here are unable to have an objective and respectful discussion even on Christmas Eve.

Hey ho or should I say Ho Ho Ho

Is there something to be said for coaching the players to hold back in the first half and give everything in the second half like West Brom did ?

I think CWAK ethos is to give 100% from the off though it appears we run out of steam after 60 minutes.

Nothing that mega millions wont solve though..

Merry christmas to all.

Very sorry if you were offended, definitely not intentional.
Merry Christmas.

Very impressive from Leeds who I didn't think looked all that at the Lane.
The number of young players they're bringing through and to be top with little spending is remarkable.
I also thought we were the better side and most likely winner.

6 wins on the spin though will do well for any team. It would be nice if we could start a run like that today.

I actually got to thinking Leeds beating Villa was the better result.

There is a far greater likelihood in Villa passing us that us passing Leeds, all things being equal, which I hope we can redress after the window opens!

It all depends on what we do in the January window but realistically we’re looking over our shoulders not at what the top 2 are doing.

Saying that Norwich have a thought run of fixtures coming up with Forest, Derby, West Brom, Birmingham, Blades, Leeds all to play in the next 7 games.....

I just hope we can start to get positive results against the top teams so if we do stay top 6 we go into the playoffs with some positivity.

Auto went about mid November.

Top six is only doable if we sign three players of quality in January on loan.

If the current squad scrapped sixth spot I can’t see anyway it beats any of the other play off contenders home and away over two legs.

Well I wouldn't say they spent little money. £7m on bamford, £3m on that douglas lad, just to name a couple, they also have various loans on big money.

They already had a good side and all they have done is added better quality to it. Should be no suprise to anyone really.

If anyone's should be remarkable it's norwich been up there and showing no signs of slowing, they have spent roughly the same amount as us !

If we get Derby seems wed win 4-3 on aggregate

cl;arke and mcgoldrick were certain to find some form was just a matter of time
mcgoldricks finish was utter utter class

- luck does even itself over the season.
Comments like that just scream “clearly can’t be a Blade”, or “has a serious gaps in his memory”.
When has it ever evened itself out for us?
