You only have to look at the bottom of that list to realise attendances mean nothing when comparing them to overall success. Large attendance figures have never given anyone an extra point and are nothing to brag about. We are in the ascendance at the moment. That might change, but I believe the average Unitedite is not that bothered about attendances ( unlike the average Wednesdayite). We can take the high ground for now, but I don’t think we should act like Wednesday by crowing about it too much. Enjoy it, but don’t rub it in.![]()
Top of The Championship
Ken on RS said last nite that he was fedup with the standards of refereeing and he was considering not renewing next season. I'm sure that this thread will be greatly appreciated by piglet lurkers.www.s24su.com

I disagree. It's all we heard for years and now this subject crushes them. Hit them hard!!Large attendance figures have never given anyone an extra point and are nothing to brag about. It was in date at the time of the original posting !!That table is out of date.
We’ve now played 18 home matches.
The attendance against Barnsley was about 28.5K.
Our average is currently 27,503, as shown in the opening post.
There is no longer enough games left for Nottingham to over take us, as their ground currently holds 29K.
We just need to get attendances over 25K (which we will easily) the last few home games for us to top the attendance table.
Also another weird but true star is our average this season will exceed 27.5.
In the last 50 years SWFC have beaten it about 4 times.

I hate to say it but all this really tells me is the premier league sell out, after this teams doing well get good crowds. Sunderland is very good considering that's mostly home fans, due to the opposition

I am like you, I miss a few matches, mainly at night when working away. I used to not think much about this. I had a season ticket as it was may of supporting and being part of the club. Unfortunately I am little more cynical these days and do look at price per game. A season ticket makes sense financially which I think helps a lot with attendance figures. There's a recent new phenomenon over the past decade that effects the average attendance figures. Sunderland gates in the past have been quite low but are reported as being much higher due to season tickets holders being included even when they don't attend.
Many clubs....Wednesday did it and we followed this season.
Charge high "pay on the day" prices....so this gives them permission to charge away fans the same high prices.
However they encourage and reward genuine fans by applying big savings if you buy a season ticket.
Personally I tend to miss about 4 home games per season.
In the past there was no economical saving paying up front for a season ticket...so I never bothered.
However now I can miss plenty of home matches and a season ticket still makes financial sense, hence I always buy a season ticket now.
I remember plenty of clubs like Arsenal and Sunderland in the top flight.
You would see on tv that their grounds were about 50% full when they were struggling but the official gate was always given as a full stadium.
The city of Sheffield seems to have followed the current fashion too with both clubs selling close to record numbers of season tickets.
SWFC selling 18K season tickets and United 22K season tickets.
Even if both clubs were struggling with hardly anyone in the stadia, it's tickets sold not attendees.
So SW are guaranteed close to 20K attendance and SU a minimum close to 25K
Think that the next time both Sheffield clubs are in the same division (could be next year), they both ought to revert to giving the whole 'away' end to the opposition, rather than the lower tier on Bramall Lane and upper tier on Leppings Lane. Maybe have to shuffle some season ticket holders on the BLUT, but don't think there's that many of those anyway. Matches at both grounds have much better atmospheres when it's more partisan.....I am like you, I miss a few matches, mainly at night when working away. I used to not think much about this. I personally think our home game attendance reporting isn't to far of the mark. I think when we went up under Warnock we averaged around 25k, the stadium seems a lot fuller now than then.
The attendance thing to me only adds to my match day experience, I enjoy a large away following both at home and away, which gets everyone going. Apart from this and the financial benefits that it brings attendances really mean nothing. Unfortunately you don't get any points for a full stadium. If you did Manchester United would top the premier league we would be top of the championship and Sunderland would be the top of league 1.
No season tickets available on BLUT.Think that the next time both Sheffield clubs are in the same division (could be next year), they both ought to revert to giving the whole 'away' end to the opposition, rather than the lower tier on Bramall Lane and upper tier on Leppings Lane. I know what you mean. I think that I have mellowed a bit as I’ve got older. The attendance thing did bother me but not so much now. I am quite happy to take the moral high ground for the moment and see how creative they can be in massaging the figures to make it look like they are still relevant.I disagree. It's all we heard for years and now this subject crushes them. Hit them hard!!
Stuff that. We can sell our home allocation out. The Kop corner holds about 300 fans and the other corner is the best view in the ground...let's not give it away to away fans! The lower tier is a shite view - let them pay £31 to sit there because no Blades would ever do that.We are fucking stupid giving away fans behind the net, we should lob them in kop corner or the corner near SS and get a proper intimidating atmosphere going.
I agree. Whilst it would be nice to have them stuck on the side or in a corner, these aren’t really options at the Lane currently. I agree with you and think we have the away fans in the worst place (for them) that we can realistically choose. The Kop corner holds about 300 fans and the other corner is the best view in the ground...let's not give it away to away fans! That’s true, but I wouldn’t expect us to drop as low as those. We got bigger attendances when we were struggling in L1 than they all get now.If you struggle one year season tickets will be lower, struggle the year after and they will be lower again, which is why Cardiff, Stoke, Reading, Birmingham are on a decline as far as attendances are concerned

Pretty much every club thinks they’re going to go up, or it might be their year for the play offs. We had 6 years expecting to go up in League One.But how much of that was based on us expecting promotion each year ?
If I ever miss Gary Sinclair telling us what the attendance is I or I’ve not gone then I usually go onto the BBC website to find out what it is. Where do people find there’s out? I’ve been looking for last night but to no avail on the tinterweb
Pigs, only thing they might win if safty concerns are ignored
